Aurora Devin's Pov

On the way to court, I followed Spencer in his car. He’s a charming, handsome lawyer, but I couldn’t help but notice his eyes constantly scanning me. At one point, he was so overly nice toward me... could he be attracted to me? No, that can't be it. He's probably just a really kind person—unlike Cassandra. I sighed to myself.

Cassandra and Nathan drove together, and while we could’ve all gone in separate cars, we wanted to get to court quickly and arrive at the same time. Hence, we paired up.

********************************
When we arrived, everything went as planned. Spencer and Cassandra followed Mr. Alexander’s instructions flawlessly. The case was adjourned, and they convinced both the judge and jury to seriously consider our client’s innocence, even though we all knew he wasn’t.

After the case was postponed, Spencer and Cassandra informed our client, John Mark, that the law firm would no longer be handling his case. At first, he resisted. He knew the Borgia Law Firm was his best shot at a solid defense. However, the contract he signed allowed the firm to withdraw at any time if continuing became uncomfortable, and Mark had agreed to those terms from the beginning.

Once they severed ties with John Mark, Spencer and Cassandra approached the prosecution. They informed them about the evidence we had—crucial to their case against Mark. The prosecuting team seemed doubtful at first, but once they realized we were no longer the defense, they trusted us. After all, the Borgia firm had built its name on credibility. They paid the fee for the evidence, and we were done with that chapter.

********************************
By the time we returned to the firm, it was already past 4 PM. My closing time was 6, but I still had reports to write. Mr. Alexander would be expecting a full update on the court proceedings, especially since today’s session was being used as a training platform for us new lawyers.

I finished the report around 7:45 PM—much later than I expected. Nathan and Olivia had already gone home. I had thought I’d be out before 6 PM, but the hours flew by.

"I'm so exhausted... now I have to drive home," I whispered to myself, rubbing my temples. Quickly, I gathered the necessary documents and case files to work on at home, stuffed my notepad, recorder, and phone into my bag, and grabbed my car keys. Shutting down my laptop, I rushed out of the office, already hating the idea of driving late.

Glancing at my watch again—8 PM. Damn!. I fished my phone out of my bag as I walked toward the exit, intending to send a quick text to my mom to let her know I’d be home late. She knew how much I disliked driving after dark.

Distracted, I wasn’t looking where I was going. Assuming everyone had left, I didn’t expect to run into anyone.

But I did.

My face collided with a solid chest. Strong arms cocooned me instantly, and I inhaled the scent of fresh cologne, musk, and a hint of coffee. My breath caught as I looked up.

Mr. Alexander Borgia.

Oh no!..

My face flushed as I felt the warmth of his hand still on my arm. I was starstruck by his piercing blue eyes—magnetic, like the deep sea. His chiseled features were bronzed from the sun, and his silky hair framed a face that looked as though it belonged on the cover of a magazine. For a moment, I forgot how to breathe.

“I-I’m so sorry, sir,” I stammered, dropping to the floor to gather my scattered documents. How could I be so clumsy?

To my shock, he knelt down beside me. “It’s okay, Aurora. No need to keep apologizing,” he said gently. “I should’ve been paying more attention, too. Let me help.”

“No, sir, I’ve got it,” I muttered, avoiding his gaze as I hurried to pick up the papers.

“I insist,” he said, his voice calm but firm. Together, we gathered the documents in silence.

Once we were done, he stood up first and extended a hand to help me to my feet. I hesitated before taking it, feeling his firm grip lift me effortlessly. He asked if I was okay, his tone genuinely concerned.

“Th-thank you, sir,” I stuttered, feeling ridiculous for being so flustered. Why was I behaving like a teenager?

“Aurora, there’s no need to thank me. Mistakes happen.” He paused, his gaze softening. “But why are you still here so late?”

“I was finishing up some reports, sir,” I explained nervously. “I wanted to get everything done today.”

He frowned slightly. “It’s already past 8. Let me take you home. It’s too late for you to be out alone.”

“Oh, no, sir, I came with my car. I’ll just...”

“Aurora,” he interrupted firmly, “my driver will take your car. You’re coming with me.” His tone left no room for argument.

“But, sir...”

“No buts. I insist.”

Reluctantly, I nodded and gave him my address. His driver took my car, and I found myself sitting beside Mr. Alexander in his sleek, luxurious car.

***************************
Inside the car, Mr. Alexander made a call through his Bluetooth headset. His voice was deep, authoritative, and commanding. I tried to remain as inconspicuous as possible, shifting slightly in my seat to put more distance between us. The leather cushions were soft beneath my hands, and the entire car had a rich, clean scent—leather mixed with cool air.

“This car must’ve cost a fortune,” I thought, glancing around.

His voice snapped me out of my thoughts. “Your opinion on the case today was impressive, Aurora,” he said, catching me off guard.

“Thank you, sir,” I replied, flustered. “I can get passionate about things when I feel strongly about them. Sorry if I overstepped.”

“There’s no need to apologize,” he said with a quick glance in my direction. “Passion is good. It shows you care.”

My heart skipped a beat. Did he really think that? His praise left me momentarily speechless.

*******************************
When we finally arrived at my house, he stepped out first and opened my door. His closeness startled me again. His blue eyes seemed to pierce right through me.

“Take care, Aurora,” he whispered softly, then turned and walked back to his car.

I stood frozen, watching him drive away, my heart racing.

************************
Once inside, our housekeeper, Mary, greeted me. I asked her to bring some tea to my room and told her to let my mom know I was home. After a long, hot shower, I slipped into my robe and sat on my bed, reflecting on the day.

From the intensity of the John Mark case to bumping—literally—into Mr. Alexander... The thought of him so close to me sent shivers down my spine. Something about him awakened feelings in me I didn’t even know I had..
