Lele's POV

_Continuing from last chapter_

I pulled out a piece of chalk and faced the wall that was painted as a chalkboard with the special paint. I drew addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division symbols, one each, on the board. "Let's start with addition." I told Amelia, and she nodded.

"Before I give you some problems to answer, I want to review one thing with you." I told her. "We know 1+1=2." I said as I wrote the math sentence on the board. "When you use one in addition, just add one." I wrote down the following problems.

1+2=3
1+3=4
1+4=5
1+146= ?

"What is the answer to the last problem?"

"One hundwed forty seven!" Amelia said, excitedly bouncing in her chair. "Good job!" I said, lightly clapping. I asked her if she understood the other basic 1-10 numbers, and she said yes, so I gave her these problems.

2+8=
3+4=
4+9=
5+2=
6+3=
7+7=
8+6=

I gave her a sticky note and she started her writing. Her answers were correct, so I applauded her and erased the board. We moved onto subtraction, but stopped there. When we reviewed multiplication, she stumbled a little.

We moved onto history. "Do you know who the pilgrims were?" I asked her. She sat for a minute, thinking. "Immigwants fwom
Engwand. They settled Amewica." Why did her mom say she needed help? She was pretty smart.

That was my question, and I had a weird feeling something was happening at her school.
