|> Soulmate AU in which coming into contact with your soulmate will cause them to sparkle to your eyes only <|
~
It felt like you had been waiting far, far too long now. How could this be fair for you, in any way? Finding your soulmate had been on everyone's mind since they were tiny, having it drummed into the repeatedly. If you see the sparkle, they're the one.
It was common to find your soulmate at a young age, since you would almost always be paired up with someone easy to find. Everyone else your age had found their one and only, it was practically unheard of for anyone to still be alone. So why were you?
Your best friend Rantaro tried to convince you over and over again that you were simply a late bloomer, but you were truly beginning to wonder. It wasn't unheard of to never find your soulmate, but that group made up less than 2% of the population. Could it really be that you were that unlucky? Was this what destiny had chosen for you?
"Try not to let it get you down too much," Rantaro instructed and you gave a half-hearted nod.
"Easier said than done," You sighed softly and Rantaro gave a gentle nod.
"Of course, of course," He agreed. "But try not to think about it, there's so much more out there, anyway. Life doesn't depend on finding your soulmate."
That was true. There really were so many things you wanted to do with your life, but it was hard to ignore the fact that everyone had their special someone. It was everywhere you went, people and their soulmates. It was almost impossible to spot someone alone.
You trudged alongside Rantaro, toward Hope's Peak Academy. Truly, you loved being a student at the prestigious school - it was known for having only the best and the brightest, yet you were accepted - someone like you - for your talent, (talent/title).
Rantaro had been your best friend for as long as you could remember, but you couldn't help but admit to being just a tad resentful to him. Just like every single other person you knew, Rantaro had found his soulmate when he was much younger - it had been someone you wouldn't have ever expected - everyone had thought the girl was a lesbian - but then you guessed the powers that be had some mysterious plans.
But not for you.
Nothing had happened for you.
You couldn't help but think about it as you walked into the school, seeing the incredible people, with their incredible soulmate. You had hoped, once you accept your invitation to Hope's Peak, that you would find your soulmate here, and they would be as incredible as the other people here. It seemed almost like fate. Yet it was getting very late in the game, and you still hadn't found them.
The thoughts plagued you through your journey to the classroom, and you easily took your seat by the window, next to Kaede's desk. She was sat there, with her soulmate atop the table, and you cringed slightly, watching Miu and Kaede interacting so closely. You didn't you have anyone to be like that with?
Your teacher walked into the room and called for quiet, and you watched the pairs of soulmates split off from each other, or those whose soulmate were in a different class came filing in, until the class was full, and not a desk was left empty.
"You wonderful students of mine are just going to love this~" Your teacher sang, clapping their hands in delight, and you quickly felt the dread seep in. What the hell were the planning now? "Group projects~"
There was a collective groan.
"Together, you will be analysing any of the following texts, and you have the rest of the day to prepare an essay with your partner to feed back to the class tomorrow~"
