"My dark mistress," Gundham bowed as he greeted you at the door of his house, and you replied with a polite smile. "Please, do come in,"
"No need to be so formal, Gundham," You replied softly, sweeping your hair back over your shoulder. You stepped into his house and he closed the door behind himself, and you kicked your shoes off to the side, just inside the ever so familiar hallway. "We're close friends by now, right?"
"Of course," He said and released a dark, quiet chuckle as he closed the front door of his house behind you. "The abode is purely for us, for the time being,"
"You mean the house is empty for now?" You laughed softly and watched as Gundham's cheeks flushed in slight embarrassment. He hadn't bothered about how he spoke before, rather being quite proud of his quirkiness, though whenever you pointed it out or decided to needlessly translate, he became rather flustered – much to your amusement.
"Yes, indeed," He nodded and re-situated his scarf, even though it was perfectly fine in the first place. He turned and wandered down the hall, and you followed him as you knew he wished – most of the time, it was easy to pick up on what he wanted, you were good at reading people, anyway.
"What did you need my help with?" You asked as you approached the stairs, and he waited at the bottom for you, before taking your hand and 'helping' you up the stairs, though of course you could walk up them just fine on your own. "There's no need for that, Gundham,"
"A lady of nobility should be treated as such," Gundham replied to your soft giggle with smile which appeared closer to a malicious grin, though you were used to that by now. You easily reached the top of the stairs and you dropped the hem of your dress again, which you'd lifted for ease of climbing. Long dresses weren't your usual choice, but being a Countess meant certain standards were expected of you, and so you always tried hard to maintain a face value, even if it was only for your title.
"Psh, whatever, whatever," You replied, but with a soft joking smile as you followed Gundham along the hall and towards his room. You'd been here many times, since Gundham and you had grown a close friendship.
"Your assistance is needed with a spell, or ritual, of sorts," Gundham responded, entering his room and picking up a lighter from the small table just inside the door, and he began to move around the dark room – he always kept the blinds of his room drawn firmly shut (no wonder he was so pale) – and began to light the countless candles he had placed around his room. The dark one seemed to be fond of mood lighting, not once had you seen him use a lamp or the overhead light in his room. Though, that was only in his room – his parents insisted he kept his strange preferences for lighting to his own room.
"I see," You nodded softly and moved towards his desk, looking at the occult book which was laid open on top. It seemed old, the pages yellowing, and the cover bound in a fading blue leather, and the writing was spidery and hard to read. "Is this the one?"
"Yes," Gundham replied, finishing lighting the last candle, and the faint scent of incense told you he had probably lit a stick or two on the way around. "The ritual, supposedly to unlock the next gate of knowledge, requires a pure blood sacrifice,"
"And that's what I'm here for?" You smiled lightly at the humour of it, watching him move over to you from the corner of his eye, and the nod of conformation he gave you. "So, you're going to slit my throat, or what?"
"Heavens, no!" Gundham declared loudly, and you snorted in amusement. "Simply a prick on the finger! Your soul is the purest I know of, and pure blood is the most potent!"
