Nightmares Within Me

Night 7 Part 4

As i launched myself at the creature coming for me i thought of no one but the people who were in this room. I'd be damned if i didn't try to fight for them. The last time i did this, i left with significant damage. I wanted to get a hit on the ugly fucker, see if it could be hurt in the slightest. I ran forward and it moved to the side and pricked my back. I stumbled a few steps but recovered and turned and ran at it again. Again it moved a pricked the other side of my back. It was messing with me, that was until i stopped and turned towards it smiling. It stopped and cocked it's head until the middle of its body lurched forward and it flew toward me. I punched it in the stomach and it retreated away to breathe for a minute. I didn't follow it knowing it would try and corner me. Instead i walked to Justyn and grinned.

" Whatever made this thing think it could escape me was sorely mistaken," i looked towards it with a feral grin. Justyn laughed.

" It's good to have you back," he said. The creature went full force at Justyn and he moved, causing it to go into a wall. We backed to the center of the room and it unplastered itself from the wall and turned to us. It looked pissed, and i was having the time of my life. I risked a glance at Ryder and though it was a mistake it was great to see the awe and amazement on his face. The creature came barreling at me to fast for Justyn to push me out of the way and instead jumped out of the way. The creature sliced at my injured leg, which had been completely numb, and in a split second thing i grabbed it's wrist and snapped it. It reeled back as i fell to the ground. I still couldn't feel my leg and when Justyn made to come to me i pushed myself back up, finding it hard to balance but i held myself up somehow and waited to see what it would do. It looked at me, craddeling it's wrist and left the room, running right past me without a second movement other than getting out. When the door had closed i let the tension in my body that was keeping me up slacken and Justyn was right there to catch me despite his injury.

" Don't look down Rae," was all he said. I went to do look down but he grabbed my head and forced it to remain up, " Don't look down," he said again. I glanced down not moving my head and my breath caught in my throat and a strangled sound escaped my lips. Justyn silently cursed and moved me to my dark corner of the room while Lillian came out from her corner, horror on her face. Ryder was gone, zoned out on where i had been when the creature had sliced at my leg.

" Justyn," i said after to long, " Tell me i'm not seeing this right," i said.

" Do you want the truth?" and that was all he had to say for me to know it was real. The creature had taken my leg off. Right above where my knee had been, it was just gone. It had cut right through the bone and because the injury prior had been so bad i hadn't felt it. That's why it had been so hard to stand straight. Because i had lost my leg.

" Rae, look at me. It's not as bad as it looks," and as soon as he said that the door opened and i as already flinging myself from Justyns grip and standing there ready to fight despite a lost leg. Justyn grabbed my shoulder took keep me up right and it almost made me cry when a gift from Nathan showed up. It was treatment equipment and crutches. There was no note but he had sent them.

Justyn helped me sit down and grabbed my stuff, lifting Ryder on the way because he was the only one who knew remotely enough to help. They got over here and i had propped myself on the wall and had taken up the task of counting the amount of small holes in the stone. Ryder grabbed what was left of my leg and i let out a yelp as i was regaining feeling. She simply apologized and i zoned out on the wall again, this time losing myself and only feeling dull things. At some point Lillian had come over and curled up on the other side of me and i grabbed her hand. She squeezed, a silent reminder she was here and with that i broke down crying. Ryder had gotten my leg wrapped pretty well and the bleeding had finally stopped. I then just sat there with everyone as i cried. Victoria had fallen asleep long before the creature showed up but when it showed up again everyone else was asleep and i was unable to move since they had made a protective barrier around me.

" Make it fast. Shes gone through enough to have slept through what just happened," and for the first time, the creature listened. I gave a slight nod of it's head and made a quick swipe and as fast as it happened Victorias body and head disappeared. I send up a silent prayer to the gods that she make it safely to where ever she was going and the creature left again.

When everyone woke up they knew what had happened the moment they turned and looked at me. I was staring at where she had been and they all sat there, Justyn offering up a hope that she is treated with respect and loved. I grabbed my crutches and then proceeded to try and stand.

" You're not ready to get up yet," every damn one of them said. I didn't listen and when they realized i would Lillian helped me up. I got used to the crutches fast but still felt the phantom half of my leg so it was awkward. I moved to the door and looked at it. I moved to the center of the room and looked around, looked everywhere.

Suddenly i just screamed and fell to the floor. Everyone was running, or trying their best to, as soon as i let out my scream. I hit the ground hard and didn't get up. I just continued screaming. I screamed as they got there, and as they looked at my leg. My hands holding my head as my screams got louder and more high pitched. When i finally stopped they all waited.

" What good i am to any of you if i can't protect you. If i can't protect you from me how am i supposed to protect you from this. I'm going to have to keep watching these until i beat it. What good am i in any of your lives if this is what i cause and this is the result of knowing me," i yelled. My hands didn't move from my head as i rocked back and forth. They looked at each other but didn't say anything.That told me enough. I wasn't good. I was useless to them. I wasn't needed.

" The next time it comes back i'm going to let it kill me. Hopefully it saves the rest of you," i whispered. I pushed myself off the ground and went to the corner i spent so much time in. And there i stayed through days more of this hell. The creature would show up, look at me, and leave. In the time it came it killed Lillian. Justyn had screamed and let out everything he knew on that thing as Lillian fell. He broke both of its arms and when he went for its neck it backed up and left. He had looked at me and yelled, screamed, asked if i was going to show any pain that my sister had just died. But i was frozen, my life, the reason i live was being ripped from me right in front of my eyes and i was unable to do anything. He punched the wall for an hour till Ryder pulled himself up and stopped him.

" It's neck," i said. Justyn looked at me, the furry obvious, " The next time it shows up go for it's neck," was all i said.

" Are you so sick and cold heard that you won't even react to losing her?" i simply looked at him, let him choose whether or not he wanted to look me in the eyes and see how it was killing me. He did, and when he saw it he fell to, and cried.

" I may not look like i'm hurting, but i'm watching the only reasons i live get ripped from me and it's tearing me apart inside to the point i've gone numb. I'm dying inside, but it's not showing," Justyn looked up and nodded his understanding. I just nodded back and let him handle himself however he wanted to.
