The three dragons landed on top of a mountain to rest. They couldn't stay long. The dragons just needed some food and they were good to go. Meliorna had done some hunting on the way so she was on guard duty. Their riders had dismounted and Sana was now tending to Aku's eye. Sana slowly removed the eyepatch.
"Keep your eye closed," Sana comanded. Aku nodded. Sana lifted the patch off fully.
"Ok, open it," Sana said. Aku did just that. She looked at Sana. Sana screamed loudly and recoiled. She curled up in a ball and started writhing as if in pain.
"Sana?? Are you ok, what's wrong???" Aku kneeled next to Sana, with her hand on her shoulder and the screams reached new heights.
"Put... the... eyepatch... on," Sana rasped between breaths. Aku quickly did as she was told. Sana gasped in relief. Amara and Kilorn backed away from Aku. Aku looked at Sana, still lying on the ground, then at Amara and Kilorn with fear in their eyes and she ran. She ran along the mountain top and kept running down a rough-cut path.
Her companions were too shocked to follow her. Sana was still on the ground. The two dragons came back from hunting.
"What happened?" Grass asked, looking around at averyone.
"Aku's eye... it showed me... the old gods.... and the pain... that Aku experienced," Sana said between breaths.
"Is no one going after her?" Reinn asked. Before anyone could answer, Meliorna landed with a thud.
"Quick! Drakes. Hurry they'll be here soon," Meliorna shouted.
"What about Aku??" Sana asked.
"We need to leave, Aku is tough, she can stand up for herself," Reinn said.
"But, she's-" Kilorn was interrupted by a sweeping green tail, lifting him onto Grass's back.
"No time, LETS FLY," Grass shouted above the sound of the small army of drakes coming to take them back to the Sirens. The dragons took off and again, soared above the clouds so as not to be seen from the ground.
