By sunset, we had reached a town some 20 miles away from Joark. We were still pretty far, but we were getting somewhere.
"Kanda, can we please stop somewhere and rest?" Allen pleaded.
Kanda glared. "I want to get this mission over with, you can rest all you want, but I'm going after the Innocence."
"You know normally I wouldn't mind, but my friend here is tired, and you can only go so long without sleep Kanda," I retorted, crossing my arms.
He turned to glare at me, and I glared back, not backing down. The glare-off lasted a few minutes until he pulled away.
"Fine," he spat.
"Awe thanks Kanda," I smiled innocently.
"Whatever."
All three of us made our way to a local inn.
"Renting one room for one night." I placed cash on the table in exchange for a room key.
I gestured for Allen and Kanda to follow. "C'mon."
"Why did you get only one room?" Allen asked.
Kanda scowled at the mention of only one room.
"I don't like to waste money." I replied simply.
I unlocked the door to the room, ushering the two in. I walked in and then shut the door, locking it. I set my suitcase on the ground, opening it up, taking the mysterious paper from the top, and then closing the suitcase again.
The hotel room hosted one queen size bed, a bedside table with a lamp, a window, and a desk with a chair in the corner of the room.
"So, who's sleeping on the bed?" Allen questioned.
"Midget, you and Shortstack lie down and sleep," Kanda elected.
"THAT'S NOT MY NAME!" both Allen and myself yelled in unison.
"And also, I don't need to sleep, that's what the train ride earlier was for, I'll be good for a few days, so how about YOU and ALLEN sleep on the bed?" I crossed my arms.
"Whatever. Shortstack you get the whole bed to yourself." Kanda said.
"It's Allen!"
Kanda ignored Allen who took off his exorcist coat and his boots, and then cuddled up on the bed. He was asleep within minutes.
"You really should sleep," I commented.
"I'll be fine," Kanda snorted.
"Then why did we even stop here?" I seethed.
"For you and Shortstack."
"I'm not sleeping."
He only shrugged.
I unfolded my paper, which was completely blank. Slowly though, words began to appear.
Write down what you wish to ask or know.
The words faded slowly. I didn't have anything to ask so I just folded it back up. After a few minutes I also took off my overcoat.
"Kanda!" I whisper yelled.
He looked at me, quite annoyed.
"What?"
"I'm bored." I mumbled.
"Not my problem."
I sighed, getting up. I put on my overcoat, put my note in the pocket, and grabbing my staff.
