-Third Person View-

When Kanda was sure that the girl, Naomi had fallen asleep, he dared to get a closer look at her. She was just laying there, cuddled into the blankets, sleeping peacefully.

Idiot, she almost got herself killed.

Kanda made a face as this thought came to mind. Her performance earlier though, with her weapon, the staff, was exceptional. He looked at the staff, recalling the battle from about an hour or so ago.

Naomi had smoothly and swiftly taken care of the akuma, with eased dodging, and when her staff hit the akuma, though she didn't seem to notice, the staff would either become sharp at one end, be possessed with electrics specially for the akuma, or become incased in a flame that appeared to not harm her. Perhaps it had something to do with her past of being blind that she worked better with her eyes closed.

Kanda reached out to the staff to take a look for himself, but dropped it almost immediately after picking it up. He examined his left hand, which had signs of at least a first degree burn.

Damn.

He reached over for his bandages, wrapping them around his injured hand.

"You really should sleep."

Kanda sighed, remembering her nuisance for him to sleep. He walked to the door, assuring it was locked, before grabbing the chair, putting it back into the corner of the room, sitting in it, but facing it towards Naomi and Allen.

He allowed himself to dose off some, keeping Mugen close should he need to use it.

Some time later, as daylight broke through the window, Allen woke up, feeling unusually full of energy. He yawned a little, stretching, before noticing Naomi beside him and Kanda in the chair, snoozing. He smiled.

So they both went to sleep after all.

Allen ran a gloved hand through his hair, attempting to make it look less messy. He swung his feet over the edge of the bed, inserting his feet into his boots, and putting his coat on.

He nudged Naomi lightly. "Naomi, wake up please."

She made a face with her eyes closed, before opening them up, looking rather exhausted.

"Yeah?" she mumbled.

"Wake up Kanda, we should get moving." Allen elaborated.

She sighed. "Why do I have to?"

"Because if I wake him, he'll beat me to a pulp."

"And who says he won't do the same to me?" She put an arm over her eyes, but got up from the bed a few moments later. She dropped to her knees almost immediately, causing some noise that easily awoke Kanda. His eyes opened, and fixed on a still injured Naomi, on her knees, clutching her shoulder.

"You should be more careful getting up," he commented, not bothering to help her up, leaving Allen to help her.

"What happened?" Allen questioned, feeling a bit lost.

"Just a little scuffle with an akuma that's all." Naomi gritted, trying not to reveal as much pain as she was feeling. Allen helped her onto the edge of the bed,and Kanda sighed in exasperation, getting up and grabbing the bandages.

"Move out of the way Shortstack, so I can change midget's bandages.

An annoyed mark appeared on Allen's forehead. "It's Allen!"

Naomi sighed, still too groggy to argue about her name. Kanda pulled the chair up next to Naomi, sitting in it.

"Let me see."

Naomi turned so that Kanda could see her shoulder, and he proceeded to take off the bandages, and apply new ones.

"There." He stood up from the chair, moving it back to it's original position. "Now hurry up and gather your crap, let's go."

"Sure, just do me a favor and both of you get out." Naomi pointed to the door. Both of their eyes widened, but Allen was the first to respond.

"Uh, why?"

"Because thanks to Mr. Destructive here," she pointed to Kanda, "my shirt is destroyed. Luckily I brought along some spares, but there's no way I'm going to change in front of you two."

At the mention of this Kanda's eyebrows rose in shock and embarrassment and Allen blushed wildly. Both of them obliged, stepping out of the room, gathering their belongings.

Naomi carefully stood up, walking over to her suitcase. She opened it up, taking out a long-sleeved shirt. She took off her half-sleeved shirt, being cautious not to injure her shoulder any further. She then slid on her black long-sleeved shirt that Komui gave her, folded her other shirt up, dropped it into the suitcase, and closed it up.

Naomi stood up, grabbing her staff, her suitcase, and her overcoat. She started to put it on until she noticed tears on the sleeves and bottom of the coat, even some holes in the middle of it.

Great.

She folded up her overcoat before placing it into the suitcase as well. Naomi gathered her belongings, making sure her paper was also in the suitcase before walking out, suitcase and staff in hand.

Once Naomi stepped out of the room she found Kanda and Allen waiting there for her.

"Midget put on your coat, it's cold out," Kanda instructed.

"Well you see, my coat is kind of torn up so it's pretty much useless," Naomi replied sheepishly.

Allen took off his coat, revealing his white long sleeved shirt and vest, with a ribbon tied to the collar. "Here you can borrow mine," he held it out to her.

"I uh, are you sure that's okay with you?" Naomi said, not wanting to burden him.

"Oh it's really no big deal, please, go ahead." He handed it to her, which she reluctantly put on.

The whole time, Kanda turned away from the two, suppressing an emotion he felt. It made him unhappy in a way he couldn't describe, Shortstack giving Naomi his coat.

Naomi smiled in thanks to Allen. "I feel like a real exorcist now," she grinned.

Kanda looked back at the two, glaring. "Alright stop chatting, we have to get going." The trio left the inn, giving the innkeeper his key. Once outside, a cold burst of wind hit them, prompting Naomi to put the hood over her head.

"Oh geez. You weren't joking when you said it was cold Kanda," Naomi commented.

"Yeah, no kidding." Allen said as well, making Naomi feel a little bit guilty about having his coat.

"Let's just move quickly, there's a storm approaching," Kanda sternly replied, leading the way.

A few hours later they had made it about halfway to Joark, when a few drops of rain hit Allen's face, and then the rain began to pour roughly. Kanda pulled up the hood of his coat, and Allen borrowed Naomi's suitcase to shield his head from the rain.

It was nearly dusk when they had reached Joark, and the rain had stopped only about thirty minutes back, so they were still quite damp.

"Looks like a quiet town to me," Naomi said, the first to note the stillness of Joark.

"We'll split up, look for any akuma, and anything that might hint that Innocence is here," Kanda ordered.

Allen and Naomi nodded, and the three headed in different directions.

In advance, I don't follow the original D. Gray Man story line and so I wouldn't like being nagged about things. That being said, people who are dead might be alive from the original and vise versa. The exorcist uniforms are currently the older ones, and Allen's hand is currently still red. So please. Do. Not. Correct. Me. Anyway, enjoy these next four chapters.
