A few days later I was finally released from my hospital-esque room, but my arm was still broken so I was still confined to my arm in a sling. I made my way to my room, staff in my working hand. I shut the door behind me, gathering my uniform from my drawers and walking into the bathroom, turning on the water in the shower. I closed the bathroom door, removing my clothing garments before stepping into the hot water, relaxing my tense muscles as the water ran over me. I closed my eyes, letting my mind drift off to the days passed. Allen had visited me several times and Kanda was there most days for long hours, leaving us a lot of time to converse and bond. I drifted back to reality as I soaped my hair and body, rinsing off the sudsy bubbles and then proceeding to turn off the shower.

I walked out of the bathroom, fully clothed, towel over my shoulders, and brushing my teeth. I abruptly stopped brushing once I saw Kanda on my bed, reading a book.
"What are you doing in my room?"
Kanda didn't look over his book. "Mission. Komui told me to tell you."
"What about?" I asked, walking back into the bathroom to spit out the toothpaste. I came back out.
His gaze still remained on the book. "I wouldn't know. I'm not going. Ask Allen or Lenalee, you're going with them."
"When?" I questioned, laying down beside Kanda, swiftly taking the book from his fingers, looking at it for myself.
He looked at me, irritated. "He said in a few days or something. Ask him, I don't particularly pay attention to what that sister complex has to say."
I read a paragraph from the book out loud, changing the subject of conversation.
"I've come about the notice in the paper," said Bumble. "Well, what do you know of Oliver?" Mr. Brownlow asked. Mr. Bumble said that Oliver was an orphan, born of worthless, poor parents.
I gave a light smile. "I remember this story. Oliver Twist. Cross used to read this to me, every time he visited he had the book with him, and even though I couldn't read it I liked to run my fingers over the delicate pages as he read them."
"The General?!" Kanda was appalled. "From what I've heard he's nothing of that sort."
I chuckled, closing the book with a single hand. "I'm sure he cared about Allen a lot more than he let on. Cross had a...weird way of showing he cared about you." I shrugged. "At least that's what Michael always told me, and he couldn't ever figure out why Cross was so...mellow around me." I smiled, putting a hand to my chin in thought. "You know I think about it and Cross isn't the only one that's mellow around me." I turned to Kanda.
He looked at me suspiciously. "What are you getting at?"
I grinned. "Well for instance," I snagged Mugen from him, examining the unsheathed blade. "I'm still alive."
He made an annoyed face, snatching his sword away from me. "Shut up."
I laughed. "See?"
He smirked. "Oh yeah?" Kanda quickly turned over, closing the gap of space between us as he leaned in close. "How's this for mellow?"
My breath hitched in my throat as I was at a loss for words, my cheeks being consumed by a pink hue. "I..uh," my sentence fragment was left behind as he pressed himself even closer to me, our bodies pressed against each other. His smirk widened as he traced a finger along my jawline. "K-kanda," I stuttered, my face becoming more heated.
"Hm?" he replied nonchalantly. He leaned his face in, closer, closer, stopping mere millimeters from me. A loud shooting was heard as chaos erupted outside. Kanda growled in irritation, getting off of me. "What did those idiots do this time?"
I slowly recovered from the physical contact a few seconds ago. "I uh...I don't know. Let's check it out." I got up from my bed, tossing Kanda's book back to him. I took hold of my staff with my working arm and Kanda opened the door to the room, letting the both of us step out before shutting it again.
I looked at the mess outside in shock. "What the heck is going on?!"
We walked to where the action was happening, I walking faster than Kanda, which appeared to be the lift shooting out of control as Allen struggled to stay on a ledge, a purple and white robot nearby.
This must be the famous Sir Komlin the Second Komui wouldn't shut up about when he told me he was building it.
"What's with all the noise?" Kanda asked once he saw the scene for himself.
Allen managed to get himself back onto the floor, sitting on the railing. "Thank goodness you two are here," Allen said upon noticing us. "We need to destroy this robot."
"Only an amateur wouldn't be able to see its weak spot," Kanda scoffed. "I had the joy of destroying a similar robot in the past. Just hit it in the scruff kid."
"Oh. Thanks." Allen replied, taking out a notepad and writing it down. "In. The. Scruff." He looked up from the notepad suddenly. "Hey what the heck is a scruff?"
"You don't know? I suppose it's your fate to die here then," Kanda smiled, leaving.
"Where are you going?!" I screamed in a panicked tone.
"Training room," he replied, waving me off.
"Ahhh! You think you're funny don't you Kanda! Naomi do you know what a scruff is?" Allen pleaded.
"I'm afraid not," I shrugged. "I'll see what I can do to help you though." I readied my stance, doing the best I could with a single functioning arm. That was when Komlin turned on me.
"Your injury out rules Allen Walker's. It must be fixed," Komlin announced.
I shivered in fear. "You're kidding, right?" I readied my staff. "Just great." I got ready to swing, but was stopped abruptly by a small sting in my neck. I dropped my staff, pulling out a small dart, before collapsing myself. Allen made way to help me, but to no avail as he was hit with a dart as well. "Greeat," I groaned as Komlin dragged me in slowly.
Thankfully Lenalee chose that moment to show up, destroying Sir Komlin the Second quickly, and I dropped to the floor roughly, which helped bring back my ability to move. My hand twitched a little before I was able to move, Lenalee helping my up. "Are you alright?"
"Of course. I'm glad you made it in time cousin, you really saved me," I rubbed my head as she went to help Allen and I couldn't help but watch in satisfaction as Komui and Komlin were scolded and then thrown down to who-knows-where. "Thank goodness that's taken care of." I relaxed. We parted ways, I headed to my room for a nap. I entered my room, collapsing on the bed tiredly.

It was that same dream again. The pain and the screams of Matthew Tate, Noah of Deception being slain by the Millennium Earl.
I shot up from my bed, cold beads of sweat on my forehead as I took frightful breaths. "Stop it, stop it," I ran a hand through my hair, starting out the chant as a whisper. "Stop it! Stop it! Stop!" I screamed in terror, covering my face with a single hand. Perhaps the most terrifying thing about that dream was the eerie feeling it set in me, the mortifying thought.
Something bad happened to Matthew.
