As the tour continued and those two weeks ticked by, I started to wonder how Axel would react.

I wondered if he'd cry because I was taking him from Mommy, or if he'd be happy because I was home again. I wondered if he'd be excited to see Aunt Jenni.

I did a lot of wondering in those two weeks, and some of those wonders became what if's. And some of those ifs connected to other ifs, and those ifs led me to some dark possibilities, some of them sad, some gruesome, others absolutely heartbreaking.

But what actually happened as Jayy and I pulled into the driveway was one if I'd never even considered.

And yet, it was the most obvious one.

We got back to their house pretty late. Jayy turned to me. "We can go if you want... But it might be better to give the boy one last night of peace. After all, his life won't be normal for a while after this."

I sighed. "You're probably right. Besides," I checked the time on my phone. "He's asleep by now."

Jayy pecked me. "Your room or mine?" he asked, getting out of the car. He got to my door before I could and opened it.

I smiled weakly. "Up to you."

He wrapped an arm around me. "I don't really care either way."

I nodded. "Yours?"

"Kay." He shouldered my backpacks and led me to his room.

The next day, Jayy and I went to my old house. I watched out the window as he drove, remembering the places in the town I'd lived in all my life. My old schools, the post office that mom would take me to as a kid, the grocery store where I got to go when I was a little older, the police station I took myself to when I was old enough to drive (I convinced myself out of going in), and the playground where Jayy and I met.

Eventually, he rested a hand on my leg. "Hunter..."

"What? Why do you sound worried?"

"Look out my window."

There was a cop car and an ambulance.

................

And they were blocking our parking space.

"Oh God Jayy..."

He pecked my cheek, then got out. Shocked, I sat there until Jayy opened my door. The cold air and the police sirens snapped me out of it.

I got out, still numb with shock, and Jayy put his arm around me. He led me over to where the cops were preparing to go in the house. "What happened here officers?"

"None of your business."

I sighed. "This is my house, what happened?"

The man turned to me. "Oh, Hunter. It's you." He sighed. "Then that means... Oh Axel..." He shook his head sadly.

Being that we lived in a pretty small town, everybody pretty much knew everybody. As a matter of fact, I was amazed that no one had told me about the huge house being built in the next town over, or that Blood on The Dance Floor lived inside of it.

I glared at the man. "What 'about' Axel?" I growled angrily.

"Hunter... We're here on a report of a dead child. Ronnie called us."

My eyes fogged and I fell to my knees. Or I would have. Jayy and the cop caught me as I collapsed, and Jayy turned me around and pulled me into his shoulder so I could both cry and steady myself.

"You wanna go in?" he asked softly.

I nodded weakly and turned towards the house. Jayy kept his arm tight around my waist to keep me upright.
