✖️Axel's POV✖️
I smiled to myself as I hit the button for the fourth floor on the elevator. Riley's party was of course pink, sparkly, and full of little girls dressed as princesses- I couldn't believe my baby sister was seven. It was really nice to see her and my mom, but I was ready to get back to my girl.
The elevator dinged before I walked out of it. I walked down the maze of hallways to Bex's room. I was surprised to see no one at the nurses station when I went by it; there was usually at least one nurse there to keep a close eye on the screens that would alert them if someone was in need of help. I caught a glimpse of a monitor flashing like a strobe light. Panic clenched my chest at once.
Angel Eyes!
I sprinted the rest of the way to her room and threw the door open. She was wriggling in the bed and loud choking gasps were coming from her throat when I raced over to her side. Her eyes were filled with confusion and horror.
"Bex!"
She tried reaching out to me- and I tried to grab her hand- but her eyes closed and she went limp.
"Bex- Bex wake up! Please!" I tried shaking her awake. I pounded on the emergency button with my fist till it almost broke. "HELP! SOMEBODY HELP HER!" I shouted at the open door.
Almost instantly, five, maybe six nurses came flooding into the room. They all surrounded her; some checking her vitals. They shoved me out of the way to get to her.
"What happened?" One asked.
"I- I don't know- when I found her it was like- like she was choking! Is she going to be okay?!" I ran my hands through my hair.
"Do you know why she was acting like that?"
"NO!" I roared, irritated that they weren't doing more. "Like I said I found her when she was choking and then she passed out! Is she going to be okay?!"
But before she could answer me, Bex's monitor started to beep wildly again, and she started convulsing in bed.
"BEX!"
I tried to launch myself at her, but two male nurses held me back. I writhed in their arms trying to get to her, but they held on tight. I yelled, cursed, cried, but they never let go.
"We need to stabilize her!" One nurse shouted.
"Is Dr. Jackson on his way?!" Another said.
"Someone page him to the ER!"
They started to wheel her bed out of the room. I tried to break free of the men's arms yet again as we followed her and the nurses into the hallway, but they dragged me out into the waiting room and out of sight.
"I need to see her! That's my girlfriend!"
"We understand you're upset, but your girlfriend is going to get the help she needs. Now do you have any clue- any at all- how this could have happened?"
"No! I don't even know what was happening! All I know is before she passed out, she was scared! And I just- I just need to know she's going to be okay..." I sunk down into a chair and buried my face into my hands.
I felt him rest a hand on my back. "We're going to do everything we can to help her."
I looked up from my hands to meet his eyes. I was shocked when I saw that he wasn't much older than I was, and at how easy that he could be the one with a sick girlfriend- scared like hell that she wouldn't be okay.
