"Ben is right: You're a terrible driver!" Axel choked out, running a trembling hand through his hair.
He hopped off of his motorcycle quickly when I cut the engine off and parked. I struggled with the helmet strap for a few seconds before handing it to him.
"Oh, come on! I wasn't that bad."
"Bex, you almost threw both of us off of my bike! In the middle of the city!"
"Okay. Well maybe my motorcycle lessons need a little bit more fine tuning- but I'm making real progress. I remembered which one was the brake and which one was the gas this time!"
"That statement just proves that I shouldn't have even been teaching you how to ride it in the first place." He deadpanned. "I must be crazy."
"Crazy about me." I smiled broadly at him.
He chuckled, "You don't even know the half of it, Angel Eyes."
He grabbed my waist and crashed his lips onto mine. I leaned into him, sighing into his mouth. I felt a warmth in my chest spread all the way to my toes. Even two years later and he could still make me feel like this. I could stand here on the sidewalk and kiss him all day if it wasn't for this pesky thing called oxygen.
When we pulled apart we were still close together. I nuzzled my face into his chest while wrapping my arms around his abdomen.
"What would I do without you, Axel West?"
"Well, you'd probably be suffering from some motorcycle crash injuries, for one."
I pulled away to slap his chest. "You're so hilarious. Hahaha. Let's go get the food." I grumbled.
I didn't even have to turn around to know that he was silently snickering as we walked into the restaurant. I tried to keep the scowl on my face, but I couldn't here. Not at our place.
"Welcome to Burger King, how may I help you?" The cashier, Eric, said stonily.
Axel wrapped an arm around my shoulders. "Seriously, Eric? We're here like once a week. You know what our usual is."
Eric narrowed his eyes at us. "Welcome to Burger King, how may I help you?"
"You can't seriously still be mad at us about the fries and ketchup incident. It happened two years ago! You need to let it go." I huffed.
"You two had me demoted because of that incident!" He practically screeched.
"Demoted? You work at Burger King, Eric. What, did your boss move you from cashier to cleaning the bathrooms?" I asked, and his pale and slightly pimply face flushed a deep crimson.
"Welcome to Burger King, how may I-"
"Yeah, yeah." Axel waved him off. "We'll both have a number 5- I want extra pickles on mine- and two Pepsi's. Satisfied?"
Eric gave us a smug smile as we gave him the money for our food. After a few minutes we got our food and sat in our usual booth by the window that looked out at the small town traffic.
As we ate I watched the ebb and flow of the traffic, reflecting on my life in the past two years. After graduating from Alex Prep me and Axel both went to the local university for our first two years of college, right alongside Ben and Penelope.
I'm still living with Tyler and Danny at the apartment, but I will be leaving in a few months to transfer to another university. I'd already been accepted by a handful all over the country. So far I'd been leaning more towards an artsier college with a good creative writing program in California. And Axel was thinking about attending a police academy in California, so that would be perfect for us, considering we don't want to leave each other's side.
