Alice must have been sitting on the porch swing for a good few hours just watching the rain and the world around her because when she heard someone calling her name and looked up she found Tate standing in the rain, soaked to the bone.
She stood up with a frown and walked to the railing of the porch where she was protected from the rain. She watched as Tate ran up the lawn and looked at her with an expression of no emotion.
“It didn’t work.” Tate said in a cold tone.
“I don’t-.” Alice was cut off.
“I have a plan, it involves this.” He said as he held up his Boom Box that was confiscated from him.”And you.” He finished.
“Me? How am I supposed to help and wasn’t that confiscated from you?” She asked him.
He shrugged and started walking off of the lawn and up the porch steps towards her, Alice shook her head. She didn’t understand what he was doing but she didn’t like it either, this was a family matter and Alice had only offered her advice to him but he may have taken it a bit too far.
“After church everyone went back to our house and that was when I brought it up, it turned into an argument and now he has my mom on side too. I want to show him what we can do and what are the possibilities and that’s how you’re going to help. The guy’s are already there trying to stall so we have to get going.” Tate told her.
His hand clamped down on her arm and before she could argue he was dragging her out into the rain and they were running, the rain pelted them as they ran down slippery streets and round street corners. Alice had no idea where they were going but she knew she couldn’t do anything about it.
Soon enough they were running down a quiet street with no one around, there were houses on either side all along and it looked to be a quiet neighbourhood. Tate pulled Alice to a stop in front of a small house at the very end, it was a one story mud brick building with a solid looking wooden door, the rain made everything dark but Alice could clearly see the wide driveway that let the rain slide off of it while the lawn next to it glistened at every drop of rain. She saw the Mercers all standing outside along with some of the teenagers from the group, she even spotted Tallulah and she knew instantly that she shouldn’t of been out in this weather despite the fact that Rex was holding an umbrella for her and Bud held one for Delilah.
Tate dropped Alice’s hand and placed the Boom Box down on the driveway; he knelt down and pressed play then chose a track to play and turned it up to maximum volume, it drew the attention of the others quickly and soon they were all looking at Tate and the new arrival of Alice.
“Tate, why are you bringing Alice into this?” Rex asked with a hint of anger in his voice.
Alice and the others stood there in the pouring of rain not knowing what to do, they were soaked to the bone and Alice’s hair was plastered to her head and neck, her clothes were heavy and her shoes squeaked because of the water inside of them. She didn’t want to start a family feud and she certainly didn’t want to get fired either.
“I brought Alice here because she dances just like I do, that’s why she’s here in Melody Hills, she travels and see’s how other dancers perform and move. On the first day I met her she taught me something that I learned from, you saw that battle the other day Rex. Even you can’t say that wasn’t just dancing because it held something more, dance holds so much potential and at every opportunity something new can be learned. So let me show you what Alice and the rest of us can do.” Tate said strongly.
“I want to see. Let’s give them a chance to fight for it.” Tallulah said eagerly.
It was silent as Bud and Rex each looked down at the elder woman and she just gave each of them a pointed look. If Alice and the others didn’t start moving soon their muscles would lock up and pull because Alice could feel the chill setting in already from the rain, she shivered and wrapped her arms around herself to try and keep some of the warmth in as she squinted her eyes in the rain.
