It was the week of the Spring Ball and Ali was as nervous as ever, she'd been touchy over the last few days to try and keep the secret of their dancing close to her chest. Rex had stepped up their practises since she had excelled so well at the Latin section and they had a solid genre of routines in their arsenal to tackle what was thrown at them.
Their costumes were ready too, she'd gone with Rex to be fitted and have her outfits custom made to her in an array of different colours and designs.
They were ready, but Ali was always nervous.
Today was the day that the week's events for the ball opened. Monday. There were special events going on around town during the day but Alice had other priorities to attend too.
It was late afternoon and Alice and Bryanna had both made it back to the B&B with their dresses for the ball that was later in the evening. Bryanna didn't know that Ali was going to end up wearing two completely different dresses that night. After the initial ball the dance competition kicked off its first round, a showcase dance to introduce the dancers for the event. But first she needed to get ready for the ball.
"I'm going to feel like Cinderella, I've never been to a ball before." Brie stated as she held her dress up against herself and twirled around the room.
The men had been strictly banned from the B&B after receiving strict orders from Annette, it was a girls evening for them to get ready and enjoy some bonding time between Rex's family, Annette, Alice and Bryanna. Delilah and Tallulah both sat on the loveseat that was a part of the furniture within the living room of the B&B, both sipping from a cup of tea and watching them with laughter dancing in their eyes.
"You're first ball is always memorable. In my day, The Spring Ball was a way to meet potential husbands. That's how I met my Jerry." Tallulah said dreamily.
The look on her face showed the fond memories she had of her times with her husband, they'd been married for over sixty years from what Rex had told her and his grandfather had passed ten years prior to her arriving in town.
"Well, I'm certainly not looking for a future husband." Brie laughed as she looked away from the mirror she was gazing into and looked over her shoulder at the women.
"Henry will be disappointed." Annette put in lightly with a chuckle as she put her coffee mug down on the table beside her.
They watched as the colour drained from Brie's face as she looked at Annette with a shocked expression before her cheeks bloomed in a deep rosy red shade. It was silent for a moment before they all fell into fits of laughter.
"Come on you two, we don't have long to get you ready." Delilah stated as she got up from her seat and moved over to the small wooden table that sat at the end of the living room and allowed Alice and Brie to sit facing each other.
Annette had set up two mirrors with fairy lights set around them for the girls to use so that they had a good view of their hair and makeup. The two girls were the last to get ready as the older three women had done so earlier.
They all had a regal air to them as they had their hair piled atop their heads and were dressed in lace ranging from the pale ivory of Delilah's beaded dress to Annette's burgundy satin mid-length dress. Tallulah sat, watching curiously in her yellow floor length dress with long sleeves that she had paired with a pearl necklace.
"If we don't hurry soon the men will invade." Annette stated as she took a stand behind Brie and begun to play with her hair.
Ali looked into her own mirror and watched Delilah as she played with Ali's own hair, trying to decide what to do with the mass of curls before meeting her eyes in the mirror.
