“He’ll be here in ten minutes!” Shanice yelled as she ran through the bed and breakfast.
“We haven’t even finished yet!” Lyric yelled after her as she ran to catch up to her sister.
“Girls stop running! Ten minutes is plenty of time.” Annette yelled after them in a scolding tone.
Shanice and Lyric bounded up the stairs as Henry, Levi, Frank and Richie’s laughter flowed up after them. The twin sister team sprinted down the hallway and into Alice’s room where she sat waiting in one of her arm chairs, almost ready for her date. It had taken nearly a whole three hours for Shanice and Lyric to get her ready but they assured her that it was worth it.
Alice chewed on her glossed bottom lip and yelped when Lyric slapped her bare arm, Alice rubbed the spot that was quickly turning red and looked up at Lyric with a shocked expression.
“Don’t chew on your lips. You’ll wipe off the lip-gloss.” She scolded as she brought out the glittery tube and attack Alice’s lips with a new application of the lip-gloss to her lips.
“Is all of this really necessary?” She asked as she threw her hands up in the air.
“Of course it is, you have to look your best for your date with Rex.” Lyric said with a big toothy smile.
“But he sees me all the time without make-up or fancy clothes, I don’t see why I-.” Alice started.
“Rex is a man who knows what he likes, we want you to make an impression.” Shanice put in as she curled the last of Alice’s hair.
“I still don’t see why.” Alice said with a huff as she crossed her arms.
“It’s a long story that we don’t have time for right now.” Lyric said as she started to pack up their equipment that had tortured Alice.
There was a huge makeup case placed on Alice’s bed with a whole array of beauty brushes, eyelash curlers and straitening Irons. The whole array of objects were scattered across Alice’s bed in a complete mess and it was Lyrics job to clean it up, Alice watched as Lyric sorted through the mess and put each instrument back into its own compartment in the carry case.
“Ouch!” Alice yelped as she jumped out of the armchair.
“There, all done.” Shanice said with a big smile on her face as she took the curling iron away.
“You burnt me!” Alice exclaimed as she held her palm to the stinging, sore spot on her neck where Shanice had caught her.
“Oh don’t complain, you’ve got other things to be thinking about right now.” Shanice scolded.
“I’ll get you back for this.” Alice teased with narrowed eyes.
“I’m sure you will.” Shanice said with a smile.
Alice crossed her arms over her chest and sat back down in her chair while she watched the two sisters with a slight pout, Alice was relieved they hadn’t covered her in too much makeup because it would have irritated her and now all she had to do was wait for Rex.
She felt a collection of little butterflies settle in her stomach but she ignored it and focused on what was happening at the moment. Shanice and Lyric were now finished with her which meant she could do whatever she wanted right? No, she had approximately five minutes left and Alice saw no point in even trying.
“I just remembered something!” Shanice exclaimed as she ran from the room.
“What’s her problem?” Alice asked Lyric.
“She was dropped on her head as a child.” She said simply with a shrug.
Alice tried her best but couldn’t hold it in and burst into a fit of laughter, Lyric gave her a weird look but then began to giggle along with her.
Shanice walked back in with something very familiar in her hand but stopped when she saw the state that her sister and Alice were in.
“What’s going on?” Shanice asked them both.
“Nothing you need to worry yourself with.” Lyric told her sister as both women got control of themselves.
“O-kay. Anyway I brought the finishing touch for your whole look.” Shanice said as she held up the white rose in her hand and walked towards Alice.
“What are you-.” Alice started but was cut off by the doorbell.
“He’s here!” The two sisters yelled at the same time after a moments silence.
Alice’s heart started to pound in her chest as she stood up and let Shanice secure the white rose into her hair. Alice chewed on her lip without realising which earned her another slap from Lyric and started to fuss with her hands.
Lyric stood in front of her when Shanice backed away and grabbed a hold of Alice’s hands and clasped them together in her own.
“Hey, calm down. Everything will go great just as long as you remember what Tallulah said, don’t forget that Irish courage.” Lyric told her softly.
“You’ll knock his boots off!” Shanice exclaimed.
Alice nodded and took a wobbly step forward as she got a feel for the heels she had been placed in and walked out of her room with Shanice and Lyric in front of her.
The two sisters descended the stairs before Alice and it gave her a minute to gather her thoughts and pull it together, she took a deep breath and let her hand rest on the banister as she started to walk down the stairs.
It was quiet as she came into the view of the people waiting at the bottom of the stairs and Annette surprised her by snapping a picture as Alice gave a shy smile, a blush started to rise up her cheeks as she reached the bottom of the stairs and she looked at her date for the first time.
It was the first time Alice had seen Rex so nervous, he was gripping the back of his neck as if his life depended on it and he couldn’t keep still for the life of him. It made Alice smile slightly as she continued to take in the sight of him.
He was wearing a suit again but this time he looked a lot more laid back with his dark shirt untucked and his jacket undone, his hair was neat but casual at the same time and he looked at Alice as if she was the only thing in the world at that moment.
Annette cleared her throat and ushered the others away as the girls awed and the guys talked amongst themselves leaving Rex and Alice to themselves in the hallway.
“Ready to go?” Rex asked as he held out his arm.
“Sure am.” She said with a smile as she linked her arm with his and they walked out the door.
