"This wasn't what I imagined when I asked what you wanted to do instead of the ball but I'm not one to complain." Ali stated with an amused tone.
Rex turned his head towards her and studied her face as she looked at the crowd below them. He'd grown tired of the ball quickly after their part in the ballroom competition and had decided that they would enjoy their time together for the rest of the night at the club. They were in the upper bar area looking down at the packed dancefloor below.
Even though The Spring Ball was still up and going for the last hour before midnight the club was filled to the brim with people. Not everyone was interested in the old traditional aspects of the ball. Not that he minded anyway, the club was his livelihood and people were paying for drinks at the bar. He was happier than most in the troubled times the town was facing.
"I was thinking more on what you said about the towns money troubles, I have another idea." Alice said to him.
Rex shook himself as he noticed he had been staring at her and focused on what she was saying before she continued.
"I'm going to apply for nationals." She told him simply with a smile.
Alice had thought a lot in the last few days about her decision, it was the quickest way to get the town the publicity it needed and earn them a large purse to put into its economy. Since she had dumped most of her emotional baggage the prospect of competing one last time, as a goodbye, seemed fitting for her retirement from the sport.
"That sounds great, as long as you're sure it's something that you wanna do." Rex reassured her.
His face showed worry over her sudden change of mind and her heart melted more for him right then and there. He constantly supported her through all of her decisions and was a firm backbone to rest on when she needed it. She smiled softly and weaved her arms to rest on his back as she let her forehead rest on his chest.
"It is." She spoke firmly.
"It's after the end of the Spring Ball, right?" He asked her.
His brows pulled down in a slight frown as he began thinking, she noticed how his left brow was always quirked higher than the other which made him look questionable. She didn't leave him to his thoughts for long as she nodded and took a breath to speak once again.
"I have an idea." She told him as she moved slightly away so that she could face him head on.
Alice motioned to the booth beside them and he nodded before sliding in. She settled into the leather seat with her arms resting on the table. Rex reached out, his fingers intertwining with hers in a solid embrace. She squeezed his hand and then began to explain to him the idea that she had been thinking of for some time.
The idea of the town going under had constantly been on her mind, such a beautiful and vibrant place deserved to thrive. She couldn't think of any better way of trying to save the town than to hold a fundraiser. Not some silly little party where the towns wealthy came together but a huge event with tons of guests and a huge media coverage that could change the situation of the town completely.
Rex nodded along with her idea, giving suggestions here and there, but constantly giving his support. He loved the idea; His hometown was everything to him and he'd help in any way that he could to try and save it.
"One question." Rex said as he looked deep in thought again.
"Go on." She urged, her smile dipping in concern.
"Who's going to come and help with all this?" He asked, unsure if their idea would work.
"I know a lot of people." She laughed.
