Rex stared at her, his breathing uneven as Alice watched him with an unreadable expression. Alice’s eyes were narrowed and her lips pursed as she stared at the infuriating man in front of her, he was so...frustrating and Alice was starting to lose her patience. She tried and tried with him but he just kept losing his temper and lashing out, she knew he was nice and gentle really but she was having trouble seeing it most of the time; his temper came out of nowhere and now Alice was getting bored with it.
“You better learn to control yourself before you realise that you can’t keep whatever it is your hiding from me away from me forever. I’m going back to the bed and breakfast.” She said with finality as she picked her shoes back up and walked out the door.
She knew he, and everybody else, was hiding something from her and sooner or later she was going to find out. It was going to have to be something huge for it to be kept from her by everyone she now knew but Alice knew she wouldn’t care; she never has about certain things.
She let her shoes hang from her fingers as she opened the door to the humongous ranch house she was standing in and slammed it behind her as she walked out onto the porch, she breathed deeply before walking down the steps and into the muddy ground. She started to sink down straight away and sighed in frustration before pulling each foot out one by one as she took a step before sinking back down again.
“For Gods sake!” She exclaimed.
Alice realised with finality that she wasn’t getting anywhere, she just kept sinking and wouldn’t be able to get all the way back to the bed and breakfast in a whole day let alone a few hours. She heard the ranch house door open and slam close with an almighty bang, she winced at the sound but continued to try and walked through the mud in a struggle she knew she wasn’t going to win.
“Ali, come back inside!” Rex’s voice called out to her.
She didn’t answer him and instead carried on in her struggle to get to at least the fence that lined the road. If she could just get there then she could climb up onto it and walk along the thin rail of wood, she wasn’t too heavy and if she moved quickly then she would be at the end of the road in no time.
“Ali!” He yelled out as ran a hand threw his hair in frustration.
“It’s just mud for Christ sake!” She yelled as whirled to face him with a furious expression.
His face blanked with a shocked expression, his eyes were wide and his eyebrows high, as he stared at her with his hands hanging loosely at his sides. Alice was the one breathing heavily now as her chest heaved with the long breaths she was taking in, her pulse was racing and she clenched and unclenched her fingers into fists as she stayed in a locked gaze with the infuriating man in front of her.
“Are ya finished? ‘Coz you two are making such a damn ruckus you’re scaring away the cattle.” An unimpressed southern voice called out from the sidelines.
Both Rex and Alice turned and looked to the person who had spoken, they’re gazes were met with a woman in her early fifties and around the same age as Delilah. With a head full of shoulder length dark hair and dark eyes the woman was very beautiful; she wore a full length white skirt that was hooked around her waist with a large leather belt while she wore a long sleeved olive green t-shirt on her top half. A cowgirl hat sat atop her head while worn cowgirls boots were on her feet.
“Aunt Dixie, hi. I thought everybody was out.” Rex said as he smiled nervously, at who Alice now believed was his aunt, while rubbing the back of his neck.
“Uh-huh so you thought you could just come up here with your lady friend onto your Uncle and I’s ranch and do what exactly? ‘Coz all I seem to hear is a load a racket.” Dixie stated with her hands on her hips.
