Rex took a moment to calm his nerves and looked over at Alice, who sat across from him at the best table at his favourite along with most expensive restaurant in town. They had come to the end of their meal and Rex couldn’t help but stare at her, she looked aimlessly around the room as her chin rested on the back of her hand and she chewed on her lip.

“You look mighty pretty tonight, Ali.” He told her softly as he signed the check for their meal and placed down the cash to pay for it before turning back to her.

“You don’t look so bad yourself cowboy.” She teased with a toothy smile.

“Why thank you.” He replied with a wry grin.

“That was a lovely dinner.” She told him as she took a sip from her coke.

“This is my favourite restaurant.” He said honestly as he felt a slight heat come to his own cheeks.

“Well I can see why, the food is amazing and the service is the best I’ve ever experienced.” Alice complimented.

“I’m glad you liked it.” Rex said with a grin as he stood up and pushed his chair into the table.

“I’m glad you brought me here.” Alice said as she stood up for her own chair and did the same.

Rex gestured for her to lead the way and followed after her as they made their way out of The Gilded Rose and outside, he noticed the many curious stares of the other townsfolk but ignored them and followed after the centre of his attention at the moment; he knew the news would have spread around of his first date in two years but Rex didn’t mind the gossiping as long as it was directed at him and not at Alice, he knew what some of the women could be like.

Rex let his gaze wonder over Alice as she stood next to his truck and stopped for a moment, he had noticed it earlier tonight. She wasn’t the Alice that he had met a few weeks ago, she wasn’t the Alice he argued with and she for sure wasn’t the Alice that wore crop tops and sneakers on a daily basis. She had been made up into someone nearly unrecognisable to him and familiar at the same time, it was as if someone was trying to make her and change her into something she wasn’t; into Louisa.

The thought of it struck him like a ton of bricks, he should of noticed it earlier when he had first seen her but he was too nervous. Her hair wasn’t her normal natural curls and instead a concession of heat applied false and perfectly made curls, her face was as beautiful as ever but you could see the differences; her eyelashes were darker and her lips were coated in one of Rex’s least favourite things. Lip-gloss.

Don’t get him wrong Rex thought she looked amazing but it wasn’t Alice and he could tell she was uncomfortable, a guy knew when his lady didn’t look or act like she should. Because of the heels she wore on her feet she had to be careful where she stepped and therefore couldn’t bounce around in her normal way that Rex was used too, her legs were incased in a pair of form fitting jeans that he didn’t mind too much if you caught his brain wave and her torso was covered in a simple plain white fitted long sleeved cotton shirt and a grey waistcoat that’s sides were covered in a graffiti pattern.

All in all Rex liked the look just not on Alice and he knew that she wasn’t the one that had dressed herself because whoever had done it had to have known about Louisa and he knew for a fact it wasn’t the guys.

“Is something wrong?” Alice asked in a concerned tone as she looked at him worriedly.

“Who put together your outfit tonight?” He asked curiously.

“Don’t you like it?” She asked with a squeak in her voice.

“Oh no don’t get me wrong you look great, it’s just that it’s not you. You look uncomfortable.” Rex said as he stuttered slightly over his words.
