[ kathryn's pov ]
that evening

"wait what?!" lily screeched after what i'd said.

"shhh!" i said, covering her mouth with my hand.

"are you kidding me?" she asked in disbelief. i just nodded my head and bit my lip.

"so you actually kissed max?" she asked, still not accepting the fact that i had. i nodded again, searching for words.

"did...it mean anything?" she asked back, suddenly overly interested in my drama. i couldn't stop myself from thinking for a moment and asking myself that.

after a few seconds i shook my head. "of-of course not!" i replied, trying to convince myself more than lily.

she raised an eyebrow. "it took you a bit to answer kathryn." she said. i nodded. "i know," i replied, finding myself being asked the same question over and over again. did it mean anything?

just then a door closed from downstairs.

"and where have you been darling?" mrs.mills asked as someone came inside. "ethan's," harvey answered blandly. footsteps came up the stairs quickly. my room door was open, so lily and i saw harvey's body briskly walk past. his door then shut.

lily looked at me confused. "is he always this..mysterious?" she asked. i shook my head. "let's spy!" she then said, getting up and quietly walking out of the room and down the hall.

"what? no! lily!" i whispered, reluctantly following her to where she was outside harveys door.

she stood to the side of it as i got on the other side.

"this is prying!" i whispered, afraid to be caught more than to find out something. she just shrugged and listened.

harvey suddenly started laughing out of the blue, making me jolt a little. a confused face grew onto lily's already solemn one.

"you know...i could sneak out tonight and meet you at the park.." he mumbled to someone.

"it's a date harvey," a girl's voice mumbled back through his phone.

"great babe. see ya at eleven," he then said hanging up and sighing. "YES!" he called out, in a hushed yell.

lily and i then ran back to my room and plopped onto the bed once we heard steps going towards the door. "that was.." lily started to say, looking at me.

i just stared at the wall, making lily look at her hands fumbled together in her lap. then there were harvey's footsteps coming down the hallway.

"hey kathryn..oh and lily," harvey said, appearing at my door with a smile.

i reluctantly smiled back a little along with lily.

the secrets he was hiding didn't make sense. i mean, i knew he was a player, but i didn't expect to get played this early in the game. that's harvey mills for you.

"are you sure this is a good idea? i mean, what if i lose it?" i asked, panicking while we walked down the road in the crisp, night air.

lily looked back at me.

"don't you wanna see who he's cheating on you with? i mean, it's better to know than to allow it to happen," she replied, turning back around and keeping on with our snooping.

i nodded to myself. i'm about to see who would have harveys heart for the next few days.

as we reached the park near harvey's neighborhood, lily slowed her pace, causing me to also. we walked into the park, and looked around. it was harder to see since it was 11:00 at night.

by the looks of it, no one was there. i kept searching for faces or outlines of bodies as lily and i quietly walked around the enclosed area.

there were empty benches, empty trees, and other empty spaces, causing me to believe for a moment that it was a prank or some joke, but it wasn't.

in the dark shade of light, there were two figures, enclosed in one moment. close together and happy.

under a lamppost, harvey was with some girl i'd never seen. i'd never wanted to see her in the first place. i wanted her to be fake, plastic even.

he was kissing her. she was kissing him. her hands were around his neck, as his hands around her waist.

i sucked in my breath. lily stood a little ways in front of me, paralyzed by the surprise. i'd guessed she thought for a split second that it was a joke too.

i couldn't breathe for a few small moments. i couldn't move. i couldn't look away. i was stuck, watching my boyfriend suck some girl's face off in the yellow light that the lamppost provided.

lily looked back at me, shock written on her face. "oh kathryn..i'm so sorry," she whispered. i nodded and wiped my eyes. "i-i should've known..i mean..once a cheater, always a cheater, right?" i whispered back.

just then, harvey stopped, smiled, bit his lip and looked around with a cheeky grin..then he saw me.

his face dropped as he stared at me. the girl he was with looked over and pushed herself away from him. he turned towards me and started walking over.

"kathryn i-" he began. i shook my head and turned away. it was like slow motion from there.

he caught up to me and grabbed my hand, flipping me towards him. i pulled away and quickened my pace. "kathryn!" he called out with lily holding him back, her head shaking.

tears filled my eyes to the brim then took the chance to trickle down my face. my heart was crushed in one small second.
