[ kathryn's pov ]
the next morning
•••

"kathryn, ali. wake up!" max yelled through our door, practically rattling the walls.

why is he waking us up so ear- school.

i groaned as ali popped up and began her regular school-day morning routine. like i said, she's a morning person. i'm not.

"come on kathryn! it'll be fun. plus, we don't need to be late," she said, ripping the blankets off of me.

my eyes shot open as the crisp, cold air sent chills all over my body.

"ugh. fine." i blandly replied, getting up and doing my morning routine for school days.

i then remembered the day before. the day i accidentally fumed up a weird relationship with max.

wasn't he supposed to be the good one?

yeah, he was. maybe harvey's old ways have been 'inspiring' him.

on the other hand, i can't throw all the blame on him. i let it happen and actually kind of liked it. not saying i don't have feelings for harvey, just saying max and i had a small moment.

hopefully he's over it, and hopefully i will be soon.

i mean, it's really hard keeping it a secret. i would tell ali if she wasn't dating him, and i definitely can't ever tell harvey about it because he's my boyfriend.

there's no good ending to this. well, maybe there is, but i'm not the person to earn one.

•••

once finished with everything, i went downstairs and saw harvey on the couch on his phone.

"hey," i said with a smile as i sat next to him. "hey," he replied, pecking me on the cheek. we then sat there looking at his phone together with his arm around me comfortably.

soon enough, max walked downstairs and glanced at us. my emotions wavered.

you know that cringy part in every love story where you can see people's feelings or emotions in there eyes in a specific moment? yeah, well, i hate to say this, but that it actually happens.

when he looked at us, his eyes were coated in guilt and something else..sadness or jealousy maybe.

even if he did feel bad or sad or even jealous, i'm with harvey and he's with ali. plus, i don't really think i feel much for him.

ali came prancing down a few moments after and smiled at harvey and i then went over to max and talked to him while they ate.

i wasn't much of a morning eater.

•••

we walked inside the large school to see tons of other people cloaked in uniforms.

"let's go get your schedules," harvey said as i nodded and ali and max followed after us.

when we got to the main office, a middle-aged woman smiled sweetly.

"we have two cali-kids and need their schedules," harvey announced, looking at the woman.

she nodded and asked for our names.

"kathryn morris," i stated with a smile.

"and ali mason," ali finished, also with a smile.

the woman looked us up on her desktop and printed our schedules for us. anticipation clawed at my mind.

once they were finished she handed them to us and told us to have a nice day, which we kindly doubled back to her.

walking out into the hallway, ali and max split up with harvey and i to go to form. apparently they had way different friends.

harvey led me over to a table with a lot of familiar faces, seeming as though there were only two people i hadn't met.

as we walked up, holly, dani, and ashley smirked at harvey and i. "why are they sitting with us?" i whispered to harvey. "they do whatever they want," he replied, sitting down beside ethan.

i sat beside harvey, ashley next to me, holly next to her, and dani next to holly.

next to holly there was a boy i hadn't spoken to, and next to him there was another one who also sat by ethan, forming a circle.

"hey!" ashley exclaimed as i sat down, also side hugging me.

i smiled politely. "hey," i replied.

harvey began to talk with the other guys then introduced them to me. "this is jacob," he said, motioning towards the one beside holly. "and this is tyler," he said, meaning the one in between jacob and ethan.

i smiled as they waved with smiles on their faces.

"hey guys!" a girl exclaimed as she walked up to us.

"can i sit here?" she asked, pointing towards a spot in between ashley and i.

"absolutely no-" ashley began to protest before i replied with, "of course."

ashley sourly looked at the girl then to me and rolled her eyes, striking up a conversation with holly and dani.

"oh, i'm lily," she told me with a smile. i smiled back. "i'm kathryn," i replied.
