[ harvey's pov ]
at the party
•••

"want something to drink?" i asked. kathryn nodded and smiled. "okay, i'll be right back," i replied to her small nod. "okay," she said as i turned and walked off.

i went to get some sodas. hopefully they had sodas. i know for a good fact there's alcohol, but i'm trying to not be who i used to be. it's hard in all honesty, but i'm devoted to being a better person, especially since everyone's already mentioning my past to kathryn. i mean, the second we walked in the door, ethan laughed at our relationship, making me seem like a player. yes, i used to be one- used to.

i went straight to the kitchen and looked in the fridge. sodas were thankfully present. i grabbed two and headed out before i was stopped by ethan. does he just pop up out of nowhere or something?

"harvey," he whispered a little. "hm?" i replied, genuinely confused. "she's a nice girl, you're going to break her," he said. "i'm different ethan. i'm not like i used to be. the past is the past." i fought back. "harvey, i'd like to believe that, but you've said it many, many times before," he said. i sighed and rolled my eyes. "this is a different and way better relationship. she's amazing and i'm not a so-called player anymore," i said. "why are you even worried about it?" i asked, yet again confused. "because from the looks of it, kathryn's a great girl who doesn't need a boy who breaks her heart when he sees someone more appealing," he spat back, turning and leaving.

the nerve of him. the absolute nerve.

i walked back to the spot where i left kathryn, still annoyed at ethan. once at the spot, i noticed kathryn was no where to be seen. "what the heck?" i said to myself. i looked around to see if she might've accidentally moved a little, but she was nowhere.

i quickly placed the sodas down on a nearby table and went outside to see if she'd left to talk to max and ali. i briskly walked up to max. "hey, have you seen kathryn?" i asked, hoping the answer was yes. he looked confused. "no, i haven't. you've lost her, haven't you?" he said back, with a shaming look on his face. i nervously gulped. "have you?" i asked ali, who was standing next to him. she shook her head worriedly. "thanks. i'll go find her," i replied with a short smile. i walked back inside, checking every room.

i then went down some stairs to see everyone laughing, drinking, and kissing each other.

"harvey!" an annoyingly familiar voice rang out. it pierced the air. people kept talking and drinking while she walked up to me. ashley parmore. great. an ex, the worst one actually.

"harvey! i haven't talked to you in, what, months?" she said with a drunken laugh. "yeah," i say back shortly, looking around. "who are you looking for?" she asked mischievously. "a girl named kathryn," i replied, still not looking at her. "oh! i know her! she's tall, has a maroon skirt on with a weird top, and has long, wavy, brown hair!" she replied, laughing again.

i looked at her quickly. i gritted my teeth. "yeah, that's her. where is she?" i asked, fighting not to hit her. i swear if she's told kathryn anything about me and her she'll pay for it.

she pointed to a closet nearby. "what? why?" i asked, starting to walk over. she followed me and pulled on my arm. "no! harvey! she's with a guy! she played spin the bottle! hang out with me instead!" she pleaded. i pulled away and looked at her for a second. "spin the bottle doesn't typically involve a closet," i said, again walking to the closet. "we just put a twist on it since she's new," she said laughing. "whatever ashley. leave both of us alone," i say to her, finally reaching the closet and opening it.

a guy was pushing kathryn against the wall as she struggled to push him off. "harvey!" she exclaimed as i looked at her. i smiled quickly then punched the guy. several times.

"don't." punch

"touch." punch

"my." punch

"girlfriend." punch

when finished, i grabbed kathryn's hand and we quickly made our way upstairs, being gaped and stared at the whole time.

"thank you harvey," she said with a smile once we made it into the crowd.  i smiled at her. "no problem," i replied. she then kissed me sweetly. it wasn't long, but it helped the current situation.
