Chris's POV

I didn’t realize it’s been three days since I last talked to Kenny.

I guess time really does fly when you’re in love.

I found the perfect girl. I met her when I was on my way to Kenny’s house. She was everything I’ve always wanted in a girl.

“Babe, I’ve got to go,” I said. I could hear her pout through the phone.

“Why?” she asked. “We’re having so much fun.”

“I know. But I forgot to call someone.”

“Okay.” she said. “I love you.”

“I love you, too.” I said. Hesitantly, I hung up and dialed Kenny’s number.

On the first ring, she picked up.

“Chris?!” she said frantically.

“Yeah.”

“Oh my god, I mi--”

I cut her off. I wanted to call Addie again. “Yeah, listen. I’m sorry for not calling, but I’ve been busy. Call the guys and tell them to meet up at Starbucks tomorrow, okay?” I thought it was the time to introduce them to my girlfriend.

“Okay, but wh--”

“Bye, Kenny.” I said quickly, hanging up.

Kenny's POV

I stared at my phone, the dial tone eating me up.

He cut me off before I could tell him I missed him. And then he hung up before I could ask why.

I shook the thoughts out of my head. What’s important was that I get to see Chris again tomorrow.

Excited, I took a shower and changed into skinny jeans with some black and white pattern on it, my combat boots and an army camo tank top. I grabbed my I-Pod and headed to Starbucks.

When I saw Chris’s black, shaggy hair, I wanted to jump in his arms.

But something stopped me.

There was a beautiful girl sitting on his lap, and they were smiling at each other.

“Chris?” I said, uncertainly. Everyone looked up. I was hoping it wasn’t him.

But it was.

“Kenny,” Chris said, smiling slightly.

My heart fell.

Why isn’t he calling me Cookie?

“Hi,” the girl on his lap said, smiling at me. “I’m Addie.”

“Hello.” I said, forcing a smile.

There was an awkward silence.

Chris broke it and said,

“Kenny, this is my girlfriend,”

My head swirled. I felt nauseated, and I wanted to run away.

Chris has a girlfriend.

No words could describe the pain I was feeling right now. Chris didn’t return my messages or calls and he was never home because Addie was there? Because he was with his girlfriend…

I swallowed the lump in my throat.

Chris was smiling at Addie like he didn’t even notice the pain I was in.

“Chhrriss,” I whined. “Spar with me, pretty please?”

He frowned and shook his head. “No way, Cookie.”

“Why not?” I exclaimed. “Not even once in your life?”

“I don’t want to hurt you.” Chris said, almost mutely.

I smiled and gave him a reassuring bear-hug. I felt his chin on my hair as he wrapped his arms around me.

“But you won’t hurt me.” I insisted, still hugging him.

Chris shook his head. “No. Never ever. I don’t want to hurt you. Not physical or emotional pain.”

This is what he was talking about.

And even though he promised, he still hurt me. He didn’t know. He was blinded. He was in love.

In love with a girl named Addie.

“Kenny, are you okay?” Hannah whispered in my ear.

I nodded, silently.

I’m not running away.

I took a deep breath and smiled at Addie. “Hi. I’m Kenny.”

“Hi Kenny,” Addie said. “That’s a cute name.”

I gave her a friendly smile and sat down beside Hannah.

It kills inside.

Hannah's POV

I watched silently from the side while Kenny joked with Addie, and they both laughed. I glanced at Chris, and he was smiling at Addie like she was the best thing in the world.

Even though she was smiling and laughing, I know that it’s hurting her to see Chris like this. She was in love with him, although she hasn’t realized.

“Hannah, I’m going to order.” Kenny said, breaking me out of my thoughts.

“Okay, I’ll go with you.” I stood up and followed her to the counter.

“Um,” Kenny drummed her fingers against the marble. “Caramel Frappucino, then.” she turned to me. “What about you?”

“Chai latte.” I said, paying for both of us. Kenny protested, but I already handed the money in. I knew about her money problems.

“Thanks, Hannah.” Kenny said. “Although you didn’t have to do that.”

“I wanted to.” was my reply.

She smiled at me as we walked back to the table, carrying our drinks.
