(Kenny's POV)
Well the last two weeks were certainly hell.
Let's just say that nothing improved between Chris and I. We were on the awkward-barely-talking-nor-glancing-at-each-other-stage. It was excruciating.
"Kenny," Leigh said. "Come on sweetie, time for school."
Oh right. I was starting school today.
With a sigh, I got up and changed into new skinny jeans, a black and white double tank top and a grey hoodie over it. I slipped my checkered converse on and walked downstairs.
"Morning," I said to everyone. I grabbed some toast, bit in and chugged down my orange juice. Then I realized everyone was staring at me.
"What?"
"You're starting school today, Kenny." Leigh said happily. "Are you nervous."
I shrugged. "Eh. Not really."
"Excited, then?"
"...I guess,"
Mrs. K chuckled. "Oh, she's not used to going to school. Her education was cut back when she turned 15."
"What?" Leigh cried. "Why?"
"Financial problems." I said firmly. Checking my watch, I realized I had only ten minutes to get to my new school.
"Chris's driving." Trent said.
Joy.
Well at least I can go to school with someone who actually talks to me.
"Don't worry," he added. "Hannah will be there."
I perked up. "Okay. Let's go."
Chris didn't look at me as he led us to the huge garage. He got in his same Camaro that he had last year.
It was comforting to know that some things never change.
*******
I had survived my first three periods. Chris was in six of my classes--though he didn't talk to me much--and Trent was only in four. Fourth period was lunch.
When I got inside the cafeteria, I scanned the tables to look for a familiar face.
Of course, it was easy to spot Chris's pitch black hair and bright red RAGE hoodie.
As I walked over to them, I noticed Hannah. Then Erik. Then Luke, Trent, Aaron, another two guys, and one other girl sitting at the table.
Chris noticed me approaching, and for a minute, his lips turned into a small smile. But it disappeared as quickly as I came.
Everyone had their own conversations at the table. So I cleared my throat, and they all turned.
When Hannah saw me, her eyes widened, and she gave a small scream. Lunging forward, she grabbed me in a hug.
"KENNY! Oh my god, I miss you! What are you doing here? When did you--Why didn't you tell anyone?"
I laughed. "Hey, Hannah. I miss you too, and it's kind of a long story. I got here two weeks ago, and so far, Trent and .. I guess Chris are the only ones who know."
"What? Why didn't you tell meeee?" she whined.
"I wanted it to be a surprise," I said, smiling. Erik and Luke had their mouths open. Aaron looked confused. The girl was also confused. And the two guys--
"Oh my god, Stephie! Jakey!" I hugged them. For the past two weeks, we all stayed in contact. I missed these idiots.
Stephen laughed as he returned the hug. "We miss you too, kitten."
I laughed at the nickname he had given me.
"Don't you miss me, too?" Erik whined.
I giggled. "Aw, I'm sorry ...Rikky." I hugged him tightly and then hugged Luke and Aaron.
After that, I turned to the girl. "Hey, I'm Kenny."
She smiled. "Hey Kenny. I'm Stephen's sister, Charlotte."
"Charlotte!" I exclaimed. "Stephen told me about you! You're a junior, right?"
Charlotte laughed. "Yeah."
"Cool!" I cheered. "Now we can beee friiendss!"
Aaron chuckled. "Same old, same old."
