(Kenny's POV)

We arrived at Pierre's over five minutes late. The Kingston's were already there, seated at a private, yet elegant table.

But I froze on the spot when I saw...something pink clinging to Chris. Mr. and Mrs. Kingston were staring in shock and horror at what Chris was saying.

"I wonder what's going on?" Leigh said, confused.

"Do you think we should wait for them to finish talking? It seems pretty private." Jerry said.

"No," I said hoarsely. I found my voice and somehow remained calm. But my heart was beating excruciatingly, and painfully fast. "Let's go already."

"But Kenny--" Leigh didn't finish, seeing as I was already making my way towards the table.

"Good evening, everyone." I said pleasantly.

Chris's POV

"Good evening, everyone." my heart skipped a beat at hearing that familiar voice. I turned my head slightly to see Kenny standing there, wearing a strapless dress, heels, and the ring I gave her. Her soft and silky hair was down and around her back. She looked beautiful.

Rozlyn's long fingernails dug into my arm. She hissed at Kenny.

"Calm down," I told her. I felt like I was taming a wild animal.

"K-Kenny," Mom choked, obviously holding back tears. "S-s-sit down, honey. Where's Leigh and Jerry?"

"Right here," Leigh said. "Sorry we're late."

"No, it's fine." Mom said stonily. Dad's eyes never left the ring on Rozlyn's finger.

Her engagement ring.

The one I gave to her when I proposed.

Kenny's POV

Every time Leigh or Jerry would try to start a conversation, Mr. and Mrs. K would absently nod or shake their head. Or they wouldn't reply at all.

Things at the table were getting kind of awkward. And no one said much of anything. The only thing you could hear were the voices of the other people in the restaurant. Other than that, it's our spoon and forks scraping across the elegant gold-lined glass plates.

Personally, I found it ridiculous that Rozlyn would come to a French restaurant and only order a salad. The waiter looked insulted.

And sitting across from her was excruciating. She would cut me off or hiss whenever I said something to join in.

Yeah, it was seriously awkward.

The weirdest thing was Mr. Kingston. He looked sweatier than a farmer who worked overtime. He wouldn't stop blinking, and I noticed that his eyes never left Rozlyn and Chris. He chewed on his food rather absently, and didn't even bother to make eye contact with anyone but his son.

"Why Rozlyn, that's a lovely pearl necklace you have." Leigh said politely.

Rozlyn gave the fakest smile in the world. "Thanks. Chris gave it to me, didn't you, honey bear?"

Was it just my imagination, or was she really gloating right in my face?

Chris nodded mechanically, not even glancing at her.

Rozlyn frowned at his lack of attention. She turned back to us and narrowed her eyes at me.

"And you know what else he gave me?"

Chris, Mr. K and Mrs. K seemed to have stopped breathing all together.

What's up with them?

Rozlyn brought up her left manicured hand daintily and examined it. Then she wriggled her fingers and flashed...

An engagement ring.

******

Mrs. Kingston's fork dropped and clattered to her plate.

Leigh blinked and stared at the ring for a long time. Mr. Kingston was shaking his head and glaring at the wall in front of us.

And I was staring at Chris.

Who was avoiding my eyes. He looked at Rozlyn and smiled at her.

My heart broke into pieces, crumbled into dust and scattered away.

Damn it, I was being mushy and pathetic again. But I didn't care, because in that moment, it's exactly what I felt.

I mean, after promising to marry me when we were kids! How could he? I said he didn't have to marry me except when he found a better, more suitable wife. I didn't say whorezilla was...was suitable!

She giggled.

I tried to swallow the lump in my throat. I had no idea what I'd just eaten, but I feel like throwing it up.

I stood up slowly, pushing my chair back.

Everyone looked at me.

Rozlyn-smug. (of course)

Mrs. K-guilty (although I'm not sure why. I know she wasn't part of this.)

Mr. K-frowning (not at me)

Leigh and Jerry-worried.

Chris-blank and stone faced.

Fucking asshole.

I stared at him for a good two minutes. Then I turned on my heel and walked away.
