Percy POV
The lightning striked the ground all around me, becoming dangerously blinding. The wind screamed like a tidal wave, brutally hitting my eardrums like they were instruments. In addition to this, the temperature kept dropping, causing the rain to be almost solid by the time it hit earth. I had to tuck in my wings to keep my feet planted on the ground.

"Paul! Get down! Get down!"

My mother's voice, everywhere at once. It was all in my head, but arguably genuine. I could hear the fear and desperation in her voice as the storm strengthened all the more.

Zeus thought that it would weaken me to hear it, although it proved otherwise.   Adrenaline rushed through my veins and propelled me forward, taking notice of a particular blonde.

"Percy!" Annabeth called from a distance, noticing my presence as well. . She was either trying to find me or other campers caught in the storm. Probably both, actually. "What are you doing out here?!"

"My mom's in danger!" I yelled, my voice practically muffled by the wind. "And I could ask the same for you!"

She managed to make it to me, wrapping her hands in mine.

"What's going on?!" Annabeth asked, a small cut running along her hairline.

"It's Zeus!" I shouted. "He's going after her!"

Her eyes widened, gripping my hands even tighter. "You can't- It's a trap, Percy. He'll try to kill you!"

I winced at the sound of my mother's screams in that instant. They were shrill and never ending; a haunting noise that conveyed physical pain.

I shook my head grimly, starting away from her. "I don't have a choice! You need to get to safety!"

Annabeth shook her head, realizing what had to happen. "Promise me you'll come back!"

"I promise," I nodded.

I couldn't wait any longer. I broke out into a run, before outstretching my wings and soaring into the sky. The wind fought against me, along with a fear that Zeus could strike me down at any moment. I kept flying despite this, pushing myself to a speed of two hundred miles per hour. The wind didn't help, but it guaranteed that I would stay in the air.

Soon after exiting camp, I was in the city. Clouds made it harder to see the bottom, except my new vision capabilities could detect the tip tops of buildings. Never had I been this high before without any disregard for the threat of Zeus.

All I cared about was my mother.

Her voice had ceased, leaving me to assume the worst. I flew in the direction of her apartment as fast as possible. The storm was becoming deadlier  the nearer I got. Debris came at me like weapons, creating cuts in my face and arms. I ignored them, pushing on until I finally came upon the familiar street I knew by heart.
