Percy POV
I wondered what type of flowers mom would want at her funeral. We never actually sat down and had that conversation with one another. It wasn't an ignored topic in the midst of my circumstances, albeit more like an avoided one.

Most mortal mothers didn't confront their teenage sons on the details of their funeral. All I knew for sure was that Sally didn't want to be buried; she wanted to be cremated and poured into the sea.

"The farther away from Hades and the closer to your father I can get, the better," she'd once said in the midst of an astray conversation.

It seemed like such a long time ago now.

Just this day was lasting small lifetimes in of itself, and the sun had just begun to rise. All I could do was recount everything that happened yesterday over and over again in my head. The destruction of the apartment, my mother's death, and Poseidon's appearance. I could remember the shock I felt as the sea god pried my hand's away from Sally Jackson. The disbelief when my mother refused to come to. The rest of the memory remained foggy because I had every intention of forgetting it.

Poseidon dropped both of us off at Camp Half Blood. No encouraging words or comforting gestures. He just gave me a bottle of something I didn't care about but held onto just for the sake of it. Soon, word went around camp as Chiron helped me take her to the Big House.

"Percy, put a sheet over her and close her eyes. We must not disrespect the dead," Chiron had said, before softening his gaze and gripping my shoulder.

It was by that time when I, in my dazed state, finally wrapped my head around what'd happened.

My mother was murdered by Zeus because of me.

Chiron tried asking me about it, yet I already knew what was coming. Taking the bottle my father gave me, I bolted to my cabin and haven't left it since.

Knock. Knock. Knock.

I already knew who it before they decided to speak.

"Percy, I know you're in there," said Annabeth from outside the door. "Can you let me in?"

I forced myself out of bed to open the door for the only person I wanted to see.

From my first impression, I could tell Annabeth had been crying. She sported puffy cheeks and a quivering chin that harbored her overwhelming emotions. I took her into a hug without thinking, knowing that we shared the same pain.

Her hair smelled like vanilla and her skin was smooth to the touch.

"They're getting everything ready for the f-funeral tonight," she said, voice breaking at the f-word.

I nodded, already knowing this. We let go of each other and started toward my bed. I didn't want to do anything but lay in bed with Annabeth. It felt like the only thing I could do. My energy was depleted.
