Percy POV
(2 Months Later)
"This is not happening!" Raven said, pulling away from my grasp. "We can't go to a hospital for mortals."

She said it like it was a sin and didn't hide the distaste on her face. Her free hand reached for the handlebar of the car door, prying it upward in vain.

Annabeth gently lowered Raven's hand; trying to prevent the potential for a safety hazard.

"We discussed this," My girlfriend told her reasonably. "The baby needs to be checked by real doctors. It could be mortal for all we know."

After a moment of intense thought, Raven relented. "Fine, but this is the last time I'm going anywhere outside camp before this baby is born."

Annabeth nodded in understanding. "We wouldn't be doing this if it wasn't important. Try not to worry; we'll be back before the day ends."

Raven seemed to find enough comfort in this, leaning her head against the car seat comfortably.

The two of them had gotten closer over the last couple of months. After the orchestrated bomb that nearly killed Raven and I, things had gone quiet. It gave the three of us an opportunity to reconcile and wrap our heads around the whole situation.

Somehow, all of us were able to bond through it all.

Annabeth read up on pregnancy textbooks and gave tips and pointers to Raven. She was the reason we were on this risky trip in the first place, convinced that it was what needed to be done as soon as possible.

Apparently, many of the books she read illustrated the importance of visiting a medical professional during a pregnancy. There were days when all she did was sit in her cabin reading book after book. And knowing Annabeth, she had to share this information with someone or something. I was already used to her fun facts and random know-it-all comments, but lately she'd taken it to a new level. It got to a certain point, when it actually became weird. Just a few weeks ago, when the three of us were eating breakfast, Annabeth claimed that the baby was the size of a brussel sprout. And ever since then, I couldn't help but picture my future child as nothing more than a vegetable.

Don't get me wrong, I'm grateful for Annabeth's help. I've just had my fair share of uneasiness and uncertainty when it came to the baby. I wondered if it really were a child, or a monster using Raven as a host. Which isn't a long shot, considering Tartarus wants us to have it.

Or did he? I believed weeks after the explosion that it was his plan all along to terminate Raven and I. But could it have been one of the other gods, afraid of what my child might bring? Fearful of the future and Tartarus's plans.

These questions and worries weren't new. I thought about what Tartarus could be planning all of the time. The peacefulness was no more than a warning of the trouble to come; it ate me up at night whenever I tried finding rest.
