Percy POV
Tartarus grinned evilly, eyes glaring at us mercilessly. Come to think of it, they weren't really eyes. Just bottomless black holes, trying to suck unlucky victims into a bottomless pit of darkness. He radiated cold, and it came off him in dark waves, circling around his figure like a tornado.

I could see Angel and Max in my peripheral, huddling together despite their differences. They were
backing away from the scene, with looks of horror. Other demigods did the same, causing an onslaught of pushing, screaming, and chaos.

There were a few who stayed, including Annabeth and I. Clarisse held herself upright at the Ares table, with some of her siblings. She was shouting colorful language and waving around her sword.

Tartarus didn't give her a second glance. He seemed completely content about the turnout, his lips curling into a mad smile. The skin on his face was peeling off continuously, instantly regrown seconds later. The god was decaying, and his figure was never solid. It was like he was slowly dying, healing himself over and over again.

I remembered his face in my dreams and flashbacks. It was just like always, except it was real again. Tartarus was here to finish what he started with Annabeth and I that day. I had an urge to put Riptide down, and give in. It was the same feeling of hopelessness that gripped me last time, but I fought the temptation with furious rage. Every dark emotion that'd been building within me for the past months came to the surface.

"Tartarus!" Chiron yelled, knives at the ready. "Everyone stay back!"

The centaur's voice didn't hold a sliver of fear, eyes contorted into slits. Mr. D stood beside him, growing vines that could hold a pegasus down. Tartarus laughed as the branches encircled his chest, ripping them away like yarn.

I saw Annabeth, who was shouting orders to her half siblings. Her dagger was at the ready, eyes darting around frantically. We glanced at each other, finding comfort in our gazes.

I wondered if she could see the rage burning throughout my body. It was white hot, and burning through my veins.

I shouted at the god who made my life a living hell, raising up Riptide defiantly. The celestial bronze shimmered, catching Tartarus's eye. It was like he'd been waiting for this opportunity, transfixed on the sight of me.

"Perseus Jackson, so we meet again. I will make sure I have the personal chance to rip you apart!" He cackled, voice booming throughout the entire camp. It was a horrible shriek, like nails going down a chalkboard.

Before I could react, Tartarus reached out with his hand, putting his dry fingers around my neck. It was a lightning fast movement that I hadn't expected. I tried to slash with Riptide, but it went through his arm, causing no injury or pain. His form couldn't be penetrated; healing so much that no true harm could be done.
