(Flashback)
"Nico, how are you feeling?" Annabeth asked the bruised and battered, yet completely alert son of Hades.

In response, the dark headed boy made a dismissing gesture, like his health and wellbeing didn't matter.

"I'm the least of your worries, Annabeth," he sighed. "The only reason I'm alive is because Tartarus wanted me to send you a message."

Our curious faces signified our silent question without having to ask. What message?

"Tartarus demands that Raven turn herself and the baby in, or he will destroy Camp Half-Blood in a week."

Percy POV
(One Week Later)
"Of course, it all makes sense!" Annabeth exclaimed over another book. It wasn't the first time she'd said those same words this week. Her research on Tartarus and his master plan was only just beginning. And for Annabeth, that meant reading and studying day and night.

She gave me a triumphant smile, her first one in days, then proceeded to explain before Raven and I could get a word in.

Her long explanation summarized Tartarus's motives and everything he did to put his plan into action.

Accordingly, Tartarus found a way to possess Athena, who then kidnapped Hecate and forced her magic to limit my and Riptides' powers. Tartarus wanted me to be captured by the whitecoats, so Athena effectively tipped them off to a species their curiosity couldn't resist. Demigods. That is why the whitecoats and Dr. Mallory knew I was a half-blood. They worked for Athena because she promised them a better world; providing them with the medicated water they made me drink to help Hecate control my powers.

I wondered why Tartarus would choose me out of all the demigods. Then I came to realize he chose us. Annabeth and I. The god wanted revenge on us for escaping his prison and had been willing to break us apart. Both physically and mentally.

Athena continued to control Hecate. Annabeth recognized that in some situations, proof of Hecate's magic had been present. Rachel turning into a monster, or the portal conjured up so that Athena could kill Apollo. The sun god had come too close to knowing the truth and effectively helped me escape. Tartarus saw this and eliminated him as a threat.

As for me having different DNA, that explanation was somewhat trickier. Annabeth deduced that his motive was the same as always. To create a monster that could potentially defeat the gods through me. To make it easier, he tried taking control over me and ended up failing. He ended up having to use Ari to teleport Raven and I to his domain; to create an abomination through us.

Choosing the daughter of Apollo as a further insult to the god himself, while trying to use her to break Annabeth and I away from each other. The three of us were his little chess pieces; he most likely found entertainment from it.

After Hecate's use was no more, Athena effectively killed her like Apollo. A definite way to divide the gods, especially when Zeus found out and received a prophecy. He already knew why Tartarus wanted the child to be born, which is why he ordered it from us and went to great lengths to show his anger.
