Virgil's P.O.V.
Finally. The audition is over and Thomas can head home. Unfortunately, his car broke down on the way here and he has to take a taxi home. I'm pacing back forth in the mindscape, I don't like this idea one bit.
"We can call his friends to pick us up." I suggest, but I'm shot down.
"It would not be wise to bother his friends right now." Logan says, not even looking up from his book.
"We shouldn't be scared, this is something normal adults do!" Roman says. I'm glad that Roman and Logan can at least agree on something after the last video, they were pretty hostile towards each other afterwards. It's just a jelly, the one thing Logan is most famous for, so I don't see why Roman was so mad.
"It's okay kiddo, I'm sure it'll be fine." Patton says reassuringly. I don't say anything.
Everything is going fine, Thomas calls the taxi, and we wait. I really hate waiting. The taxi shows up and we head outside, the cool air calming my nerves.(A/N They're still in the mindscape, but it changes depending on Thomas's location. For example, if there was wind where Thomas was, it would be windy inside the mindscape even though the mindscape didn't look any different.)However, when I see the driver, my anxiety spikes, my breath catching.
"You okay kiddo?" Patton asks gently. I shake my head.
The driver didn't look gruff or anything, he looked like a normal guy, but something about him made me really anxious. Their smile creeped me out though, it was sickeningly sweet, and fake. No one else seemed to notice though, which unnerved me even more.
What set off the most red flags in my head is when they silently chuckled when Thomas gave his address, which, again, no one noticed. He started driving, and I was looking at everything to see if anything looked out of place. To be extra safe I looked up the license plate. What I read gave me chills.
"Uh, guys?" I ask, the demonic undertone coming back. Everyone turns in surprise at my voice as I start shaking slightly.
"What's wrong kiddo?" Patton asks, rushing over. I hold up my phone.
"This car was stolen a week ago. Meaning that this guy isn't a taxi driver." I say. Everyone's jaws drop.
Logan immediately goes over to the microphone that allows us to talk to Thomas.
"Thomas, you need to get out of there." He says urgently.
Thomas looks panicked, and kindly asks the driver if he can get out.
"Sorry sir, I'm not allowed to drop you off before we arrive at your destination." The driver says kindly, giving another fake smile.
This is horrible. If I had just tried harder, or if I had explained to Patton, or just said something earlier we wouldn't be in this mess. I'm on the floor, curled up and knees drawn to my chest in an effort to calm me down. But a few simple words send me into a full-blown anxiety attack.
"Um, excuse me? We just passed my house." Thomas says warily. My breathing is jagged and erratic, my heartbeat so loud I'm sure Thomas can hear it.
"I know." The driver says, chuckling darkly. I almost faint from fear, why didn't I say something?
"Kiddo? Can you hear me?" Patton asks, but his voice sounds faint, distant. I nod shakily. "Okay, can I touch you?" He asks softly. I flinch, but nod anyways. I try to shake away the thoughts that he's going to hurt me, he's Patton, Dad, he'd never do that. He puts my hand over his chest.
"Try to mimic my breathing, okay? In for four, hold for seven, out for eight, just like you told Thomas." Patton says gently, guiding me through the technique. My vision clears up a bit and my thoughts lighten a bit, but I mess up and let go of my breath before the seven seconds is up making me panic even more, my thoughts becoming worse than they were originally.
"Shh, it's okay. You're doing great, you can do this." Patton's soft voice breaks through the voices in my head, and I focus on it. Slowly, my breathing and heart rate become normal again, and my anxious thoughts are at their usual level. I stand on shaky legs, and give Patton a tight hug.
"Thanks." I say quietly. He just hugs me back.
"No problem kiddo." He's says, and we break apart.
Unfortunately, the calm moment comes to an abrupt end as we remember what's happening. I look back over to the screen and see that Thomas is struggling not to freak out. Luckily I absorbed enough of his panic that he didn't have an attack too.
The driver arrives at, presumably, his house and gets out, grabbing a shaking Thomas by the wrists. We get into the main room and he lets Thomas go, telling him to sit. Thomas does so fearfully.
"You can call me Erik. I know your sides are real. So I'm going to have you summon them, well, except Anxiety I don't like him, then you'll be put in a room, okay? And don't even think of calling the police, there's no cell service here and I'll be taking your phone anyways. If you do so obediently, I won't hurt anyone, understood?" Erik asks intimidatingly. Thomas nods quickly, and I formulate a plan.
As Thomas is getting dragged to another room I summon myself, appearing in the shadows so as not to be seen. I hear Patton's voice in my head. (They can communicate if they are not together, but as soon as they are in the mindscape together or in the physical plane together they cannot communicate like this, only verbally.) (Italics means they are communicating telepathically in a sense)
"Be careful, that's really dangerous." He warns. I don't reply, afraid I'll react out loud in some way, or make my presence known.
Erik doesn't notice me, just continues dragging Thomas along. I wait in terrified silence as he locks the door, and listen as he starts speaking.
"Summon your sides, then I'll bring you to your room." I hear the others appear, and Erik speaks again. "You'll be staying here. But make a move to escape or go back to Thomas and Thomas gets hurt, understood?" His voice is much lighter when addressing them, but darkens as he makes the threat.
I hear footsteps approaching the door and move silently around the corner, back into the living room and hold my breath. He puts Thomas in another room, and as he starts speaking I quietly head out the front door, thankful for once that I'm lighter than the others. Once I make it onto the street I bolt, heading for the police station.
I make it there surprisingly fast, considering its around 3 miles away. I guess being fight or flight really helps. I slow my pace slightly as I arrive, catching my breath. I walk in, trying to muster all of my confidence.
"Can you please help? My brothers have been kidnapped." I say, letting some of my actual panic bleed into my voice.
"What happened sir?" An officer asks.
"We were taking a taxi home, but they drove right past our house and went to his house instead. The guy took us inside but I managed to escape. I can take you to the location." I say hopefully.
"How many brothers do you have?" She asks.
"4. We're identical quintuplets." I say. She looks at me with disbelief. I shrug.
"We'll take you in one of our cars, you can direct me on how to get there and a few other cars will follow." She says, coming around the counter. A few other people come too.
Once in the car I give her the directions to the house, and she gasps slightly when she sees the car in front of it.
"That's the stolen taxi!" She exclaims. I nod.
"I had a bad feeling, so I looked it up." I say "He wouldn't let us out of the car." She nods solemnly. As she's getting out I know I only have one chance at this, so I appear back in Thomas's mind for a moment.
"Pretend we're all quintuplets." I say into the intercom, and then I send the same message to the other sides telepathically.
I quickly sink back to the car, as I can only appear at Thomas or the last place I was, and quickly get out. The officer, luckily, doesn't seem to have realized anything. I lead her inside, her gun raised. Erik comes out the door from the room the other sides are in, sees me, and shrieks.
"Anxiety! I knew I was right for hating you!" He screams, pulling out his own gun.
Unfortunately for him, he left the door open in his surprise and Patton rushes out looking at me terrified. He doesn't notice and instead opens Thomas's door, yanking him out before anyone can react. He holds Thomas at arm's length and points his gun at his head.
"Anyone gets too close to me and I'll shoot him!" He declares, and I know I have to take another risk.
Much to the protests of the other officers I start slowly walking towards him. As I get closer I focus all of my energy, ready to make a sudden move when necessary. When I get within three steps of Thomas Erik starts counting.
"3." He says warningly. I take another step, tensing up my muscles.
"2." He sounds more menacing now. Regardless, I take another step forward. My main purpose is to keep Thomas safe.
"1." He says, and I rush in front of Thomas, pushing him to the ground as the trigger is drawn. It misses my head thankfully, instead landing in my chest, though not in the heart. The officer shoots Erik and he drops his gun, all of them rushing over.
Patton runs to my side, hugging me and sobbing on my shoulder. Roman comes over, looking proud and sad, hugging me too. Even Logan joins in, tears in his eyes as well. Thomas is being held back by the officers, and the last thing I see is him running over, before I pass out.
~Time skip~
I wake up in a hospital bed, my head pounding. I look around, confused. At least I'm not dead. It's weird, usually people have no memory of what happened when they wake up, but I remember it just fine. I wonder where the others are?
Roman's P.O.V.
I'm pacing back and forth in the waiting room. Virgil rescued us, he even got shot just to save Thomas! And now he's in the hospital and we can't do anything, we can't even see him until he wakes up. What if he doesn't wake up? What if he's in a coma? Thomas doesn't look much better, he's sitting with his head in his hands. I go up to him to make sure he's alright.
"You okay Thomas?" I ask tentatively. He looks up at me and I can see that he's been crying, his eyes are red and puffy and he has tears streaming down his face.
"I should've listened to him! I could tell, the second I saw the driver I could tell that Virgil got super anxious, and I didn't do anything! What kind of person am I?" He sounds so defeated at the end. I sit down and put my arm around him, while Patton rushes over.
"Thomas, it's not your fault, okay? None of this is any of our faults. Don't blame yourself, it'll get you nowhere." I say, even though I'm blaming myself too. What kind of Prince watches as his host is about to get shot?
"Oh, kiddo. Roman's right, there is no use thinking about what we could've done differently, it's in the past, there's no changing it, just be thankful for the fact that we're all here, alive. That goes for you too Roman, I know you think it's your fault." Patton says, gentle but stern. I nod sadly.
"Excuse me? Are you four here for Virgil Sanders?" A nurse asks, popping her head in. We all jump to our feet. "He's awake, follow me." She says and leads us to a room farther down the hall. We all rush in, Thomas getting there first and hugging Virgil so hard he can barely breathe.
"Need(gasp)air(gasp)" Virgil struggles to say, and Thomas let's go with a watery chuckle.
Patton Logan and I come up to him too, each of us giving him a brief hug. He smiles.
"Virgil I'm so glad your okay." Thomas says, smiling through the tears "I really should've listened to you and I'm so so sorry." His smile turns to a frown as he starts crying more.
"Hey, Thomas, it's alright. You could've gotten hurt, I'm just glad you're alright." Virgil says, trying to comfort Thomas. This just makes him cry harder.
"But you did get hurt, just because I didn't listen!" Thomas says as Virgil hugs him, Thomas sobbing into his shoulder.
"Well it was either me get hurt or you die. Who knew being disliked could have an advantage." He jokes, causing Thomas to hug him tighter.
"I'm actually surprised he didn't like you, you're the favorite character." I say, smiling slightly. Virgil chuckles.
"Well see about that." He says. It's an odd answer, but I just shrug. We can handle that later.
Virgil's P.O.V.
Thomas finally lets go and I can breathe again, though I step back slightly when Patton tries to hug me immediately after, sending him an apologetic look. He seems to understand and raised his hand to squeeze my shoulder comfortingly, a harmless gesture. Nonetheless I flinch, almost unnoticeably, but Patton still sees it and drops his hand instantly.
"Sorry kiddo, I don't mean to-" I cut him off.
"No, it's okay, just a natural reaction." I explain quietly. Patton looks troubled, but drops the subject.
Things around us start to change slightly after that. We're all more open, and once I'm finally released from the hospital I'm surprised to see banners all around Thomas's house. I'm glad that we can all stick together, as one big, happy famILY. Maybe getting shot wasn't such a bad thing.
Just kidding, I'm never going to get over the nightmares that gave me.
Heyo, yet another one! Once again, hope you enjoyed, and have a pleasant day/night!
