Virgil's P.O.V.
I sigh, glancing around at the darkness. I guess I'll have to find my way to the mindscape by myself. You'd think that when you form there'd be someone there to help you, but nope. I start walking, feeling the pulses of thoughts and emotions flowing from a certain direction. As I get closer I notice another mainstream of life, off to the side. I noticed it second, so surely it's not where I belong, right? But I can tell someone is coming from there based on how clear their thoughts are, and they show all intents of helping me. I guess I could go with them? They'll have no idea that I can read thoughts and emotions, it's a tool for overthinking, if someone has a slight thought of negativity towards me I will know, I guess it makes sense for only anxiety to have. As they get even closer I realize that they're a dark side, but why would they want to help me? Surely they want to hurt Thomas?
"Goodbye." They say, but their thoughts are saying hello. What?
"Hi?" I ask quietly, still scared as they step more into view. He must be Deceit, with the scales and based on how he said the opposite of what he meant. He nods.
"I'm not Deceit. Who aren't you?" He asks calmly, taking note of my dark clothing.
"I'm Anxiety." I say, making him wince. I look to my feet, of course he wouldn't want me.
"I see. I'm not sorry, but the others will accept you easily." He says sympathetically, making me look up in surprise and confusion "The light sides." He clarifies, seeing my confused look.
"Oh. Thanks for telling me I guess. Do- do you know if the dark sides will?" I ask meekly, afraid of his response. He looks surprised, but happy, like he wasn't expecting me to ask that but he's glad I did.
"Of course not! We wouldn't love to have you!" He says excitedly, before recomposing himself "If you wouldn't like to, that is." He says, slightly embarrassed. I give a small smile, making him look hopeful.
"Well why would I want to go to where everyone will hate me?" I ask, making him smile more, motioning for me to come with him.
"Well then don't follow me." He says happily, leading the way. I can't help but smile, this is going a lot better than I expected. He introduces me to the other two, Insanity and Arrogance, and we immediately hit it off. We're all smiling and laughing, and by the time Thomas goes to sleep, making everything go dark, we've already set up a pillow fort, movies ready to play. I can't help but be thankful Deceit came to find me, otherwise I would've had a much less warm welcome. We all end up falling asleep in the fort, the floor seems comfortable to them, except for me. Naturally I have insomnia, allowing me to spend the darkest hours of the night overthinking everything. After a while of just sitting here and thinking I check my watch, it's 3 a.m. already. I sigh, changing my position. I let my eyes close, willing sleep to wash over me, but to no avail. After another few minutes I hear a quiet whisper, making me jump.
"Hey, you still awake?" My eyes snap open, letting me look at who spoke. Insanity is wide awake too, staring at me with concern in his eyes.
"Yeah." I whisper back, scared of his reaction. He smiles gently.
"Can't sleep?" I just nod "Same here, insomnia sucks sometimes. I do have one thing that works though. Wanna try? It's safe, I promise." He adds as he sees my wary glance. I nod, getting up slowly so as not to wake anyone. I let him lead me into the kitchen, confused as he starts taking out sugar and milk.
"I don't really think eating sugar will help." I say cautiously, even more confused when he just chuckles.
"Oh, we're not eating it, not yet at least." He says, and realization dawns on me as more baking ingredients are placed on the counter.
"Oh. Cookies?" I ask, smiling slightly as he nods. It takes us a while to read the directions in the dark, and everything becomes harder when we have to start taking out the bowls and mixing, despite our efforts we're so loud it's a miracle the other two don't wake up. Finally they're in the oven, and the warm smell fills the house as we talk quietly, laughing almost the entire time. Eventually the timer goes off, making us both jump. Unfortunately we hit the bowls, knocking them on the floor, as well as all leftover ingredients, plus spilling the milk. As if that wasn't enough, it takes long enough to clean that by the time we're done smoke is billowing out of the oven, and the fire alarm starts to go off. By this time the others are most definitely awake, and once we take the cookies out and shush the alarm, as well as turn off the emergency sprinklers, they're both standing there, just staring at us with a blank look. Insanity lets out a nervous laugh, while my own anxiety takes ahold of me. Before I can even attempt to explain Arrogance rolls his eyes, a fond smile on his face. Deceit laughs as well, until they're all laughing so hard they can barely breathe. I can't help but join in, their joy is infectious. We all start making a new batch, needless to say that the others were ruined. Once we're all filled up on sugar there's no putting us back to sleep, so we just start playing games. Finally, as the sun rises, we all fall asleep, including me this time. Who would've guessed insomnia could be fun?
I wake up, surprisingly refreshed for the 3 hours of sleep I got. Everyone else looks surprised too, glancing around happily.
"So, who's up for another batch of cookies?" Insanity asks jokingly. We all laugh, and I actually get up and grab the ingredients, shaking them in a jesting way. They all laugh again, but we end up making them anyways. I guess we all just love sugar. Or Thomas does, it's hard to tell.
~3 years later~
I leave the dark mindscape, going for a walk in the subconscious. It's actually very calming in here, despite being almost pitch black. As I get farther and farther in however I start getting a feeling of unease. After another moment I realize it's because someone else is here, and they're coming from the light mindscape. I start running back, my anxiety taking over again. I wince as I sprint past them, catching a glimpse of blue that surely saw me too. I sigh in relief as I get back to the dark mindscape, still shaking slightly.
"Hey, you look bad, more so than usual, you okay?" Arrogance asks. I can't help but chuckle slightly, nodding.
"Yeah, I just passed another side when I was out there. They saw me, but I don't think they got too good of a look at me since I was already running back here." I say, worried that he'll be mad. He just smiles at me, leading me back to Insanity and Deceit who are both sitting on the floor.
"Let's not play truth or dare!" Deceit says, ignoring the oddity of the embodiment of lying wanting to play a game of truth. I just shrug, sitting down with them.
"Okay, Anxiety, you ask first." Insanity says, making Arrogance clutch his chest in fake offense and Deceit laugh. I nod, thinking quickly.
"Deceit, truth or dare?" I ask, smirking mischievously. He smirks back.
"Not dare." He says, waiting for my response. I smirk wider.
"I dare you to get the weirdest song possible stuck in Thomas's head." He grins, concentrating for a moment.
"What'd you choose?" Arrogance asks, smiling widely.
"Totally not 'I am the walrus'." He says, making us all laugh. He turns to Insanity.
"Insanity, lie or dare?" He asks, smiling too.
"Lie." Insanity says jokingly, making Deceit groan.
"You don't know what I meant." He says, making Insanity chuckle.
"Yeah, yeah, I know. Truth." He says, undeterred by Deceit's annoyance.
"What's not the craziest thing you've ever done?" I smile, knowing Insanity, this is going to be wild and beyond insane.
"I once put a battery powered blender on my hand, turned it on and sank down to the light mindscape, yodeling to them as my hand got mangled. I healed myself after, and erased their memories of it, but it was fun." We stare at him, yet I'm somehow surprised that that's the craziest thing, I kinda though it would've been worse "Arrogance, truth or dare?" He asks, ignoring our bewildered looks.
"Dare." He says simply, smirking in a self-satisfied way.
"Okay, would you prefer it if we called you by your real name? If so, I dare you to tell us what your name is. If not, I dare you to say the weirdest names you ever heard." He responds, knowing that he'll do both.
"Yes, and my name is Aron. However, I am braver than any of you so I will say the most insane name ever two. A multiple time criminal was named Beezow Doo-Doo Zopittybop-Bop-Bop, look it up if you don't believe me." I take out my phone, quickly followed by Insanity and Deceit. He's right, it's real. I look up in shock, Aron's just smirking smugly. "Anxiety, truth or dare." There's no way I'm doing a dare.
"Truth." I say hesitantly, scared for what he'll say.
"Well since I revealed my name, what's yours?" He asks, making me freeze up. I mean, it's only fair, but this wasn't exactly how I planned on it happening. To be honest though, there is no real way I planned to reveal my name, so I can't exactly complain.
"Virgil." I say, waiting for the harsh reactions. Deceit laughs, but not in a harsh way.
"They don't make sense. Aron the Arrogant? Virgil the Vigilant?" He says, smiling. I let out a small sigh of relief, before turning on Insanity.
"Since you started this, truth or dare?" I ask. He smirks, sure that by not saying truth he'll get out of it.
"Dare." He says, a satisfied expression on his face. Now I smirk, he really thought I'd let him go?
"I dare you to reveal your name." I say, making him groan, yet he's still smiling.
"Do I have to?" He whines like a little kid.
"Hey, if I, the literal embodiment of Anxiety, can do it, so can you." I point out, making him nod reluctantly.
"Ian. The Iansane." He says, making me laugh. Now he rounds on Deceit "Your not getting our of this. Truth or dare?" He asks. Deceit just sighs.
"My name is not Liam." He says, making Ian pout.
"Liam the Liar?" Aron asks, making us all laugh again. We continue playing until Thomas falls asleep, deciding we should head to bed as well, though this time there's no cooking disaster, just loud music blaring in my ears until I too eventually fall asleep, odd dreams playing through my head as the lyrics of the song make their way into my head. At one point I end up in a club full of girls, the letters B A D everywhere, singing on stage about one of the girls who I assume is here in the room somewhere. I end up getting them all to chant about my breakup, even though I never would've dated a girl since A; I can't enter the real world and B; even if I could Thomas, and therefore every one of his sides, is gay. It ends with a particular group of girls laughing and talking to their friend, who I think is the one who was crazy enough to call the cops on me for "being mean" even though I wasn't. She is, no doubt, more insane than Ian himself, which is a pretty huge achievement. I mean, she's crazier than the literal embodiment of Insanity, who once yodeled with his hands in a blender for fun! It's almost impossible to be that mentally damaged, but she somehow managed it. I wake up utterly confused, before falling back asleep to a much different song by Set It Off, not as weird or influencing this time, thankfully.
~2 years later~
Why?! I only have a week left, I'm becoming a light side, and there's nothing I can do about it! They're gonna hate me, I know it! Why?! I just found out this morning when I woke up, I've been pacing my room ever since. Finally I sigh, heading downstairs gloomily. I see Ian Liam and Aron all sitting on the couch, smiling as the watch TV together. Without any warning I run over and hug them, not wanting to ever leave. They hug back, surprised. Once we pull away they notice my sad look, immediately growing concerned.
"What's not wrong?" Deceit asks, worry in his voice. I sit on the floor, not wanting to stand anymore.
"I-I'm gonna become a light side in a week. I'm gonna be forced to leave you guys." I manage before tears start falling. To anyone else this would seem strange, who would miss lies insanity and arrogance? they'd think. But they've been my family, accepting me from the start, you can't just leave that suddenly without repercussion. The second the first tear falls they all get up from the couch, sitting down on my level and bringing me into another hug. Once I've calmed down a little we decide to make the most of our time, and start doing everything that we've ever enjoyed together.
As the week comes to an end I can't help but feel increasingly sad. I walk downstairs, knowing it's my final day living here. I see all three of them at the table, a hoodie in hand. As I get closer I see more detail to it, it's black with purple plaid patches, purposely messy stitches sewn on, and in the top corner there's a little purple stormcloud with lighting. That's the first nickname they ever gave me, Stormcloud. It was originally used teasingly, but soon it just became a normal thing, like how I know they call Creativity Princey in the light mindscape. I run forwards and hug them once more as I'm painfully reminded of my quickly diminishing time left here.
"Here, something to remember us by." Aron says softly, handing the hoodie to me gently. I accept it gratefully.
"Thank you guys so much." I say, smiling sadly.
"There's only one problem, with the other sides, you'll be hated on a lot. You might not want to wear that in front of them, they'll think you too dark to wear color." Ian says, a regretful look on his face.
"It doesn't matter, I'll wear it whenever I get the chance. I doubt I'll be out of my room much anyways." I say, earning more concerned looks.
"Hey, please do lock yourself away there. You can't always visit us, you just will be able to in the first week. We don't want you to still try to be at least a little open with them, maybe try to make friends?" Deceit says worriedly. I nod, and quickly snap my fingers so that I'm in my new hoodie, making them smile slightly, sadness still in their eyes.
We spend the rest of the day just enjoying each others presence, we try, and fail, to make an ice cream cake, as well as reenact some of our favorite scenes from Disney movies, mostly the ones we decided had darker meanings, it's fitting after all. As I go to sleep I change back into my old hoodie, knowing that when I wake up I'll be in my new room.
As I suspected I'm somewhere completely different, but my room looks almost exactly the same, and all of my belongings are here. I brace myself for the reactions, already sensing their displeasure at there being a new door. However, one of them is hopeful and excitedly, reminding me painfully of when I first met Deceit. Cautiously I exit my room, a tiny patch just like the one on my new hoodie clutched tightly in my hand, hidden in my pocket. As I get to the commons I notice the slightly different layout, for one I don't have to go downstairs but merely walk down a hall this time. I see all three of them gathered there, and realization strikes me. The dark sides are opposites of the light sides like a darker version, but since I could be either, hence having the choice when I formed, I don't have an opposite on either end. I do notice one thing though, Princey is somehow more arrogant than Aron, at least in a harsh manner. I guess Morality and Logic didn't do a good job of controlling his ego.
"Hi there kiddo! Who are you? I'm Morality." The one in blue says, and I suddenly remember when I ran past him in the subconscious, I hope he doesn't.
"I am Logic, and that is Creativity." The teacher says, pointing at Princey.
"Hey! That's Princey to you." He says harshly, glaring at me.
"I-I'm Anxiety." I say nervously, no way I'm telling them my real name when they don't even know each others names. Princey glares harder, Logic seems to look down on me and Morality looks disappointed, letting me know this is gonna be a long week
~1 year later~
Thomas is starting videos with us in it? Are you kidding me? Why? Regardless, I am going to be in them, whether they like it or not. They ruined my life, it's only fair that I ruin theirs. As Thomas starts filming again I pop up, he thought he could just be relaxed? I only wanted to help him before, but now he's gone too far. This is the one time that I'll purposely do this for no reason though, all the other times are because I'm anxious already and it just leaks over to him. After all, why would I want to get revenge on him, it's the other sides who have made my life hell.
Needless to say it doesn't go over well, and I end up being taken down in front of the whole internet. As soon as I'm safe in my room I sink down to the dark mindscape, usually I'd walk but right now I don't feel like wasting time.
They don't look at all surprised, and I see that they were watching the screen that allows us to see from Thomas's point of view. I groan, throwing myself face-first on the couch.
"You okay?" Ian asks carefully, sitting down next to me.
"Yeah, I'm just great, I just got berated and hurt for doing my job in front of millions of people thanks for asking." I say sarcastically, not looking up. He rests a gentle hand on my back.
"I'm sorry, they shouldn't have done that. It's one thing to say it to you when it's just you guys, it's another for them to outright scold you on camera." He says sympathetically, anger in his voice, though I can tell it's directed at them. I slowly sit up, and we start talking about calmer subjects. Eventually my mind is completely off it, and I enjoy the rest of the night with them.
~1 more year later~
I sigh, today has just been horrible. First I woke up from a nightmare, successfully calming myself down only for Thomas to send me into a panic attack, then the others blamed me for making Thomas anxious when I was absorbing as much of his anxiety I could without destroying myself, hence me having the panic attack. I ended up in a shouting match between Roman, Logan and me, with Patton watching regretfully. After that I had to go back to my room so I could calm down from the forming anxiety attack they caused by saying how much they hated me, and afterwards Thomas summoned me to yell at me for making him cry for no reason, when the reason he was crying slightly was because I was sobbing my heart out over every insult that anyone had ever said to me, my anxiety bringing every instance clearly to the front of my mind. I open the door to the subconscious, walking there will help me calm down. I focus on the mainstream point of emotions, following them all the way to the dark mindscape, glancing around uneasily as I feel random thoughts around me. Whoever it is is keeping enough distance that I can't quite read the emotions or thoughts, just know that they're there, unable to identify them. As soon as the dark mindscape is in sight I sprint to it, desperate to get out of that person's line of sight. I let myself relax slightly as Ian Liam and Aron spend the night trying to comfort me, finally smiling for the first time today.
Eventually I have to head back so I sink down, not wanting to feel like I'm being watched again. I exit my room in the light mindscape and I have no time to react as someone grabs my shoulder, dragging me to the commons. I look up to see none other than Roman, as if this day couldn't get any worse, it has to be the one person who for sure hates me, Logan was just upset earlier and Patton somehow likes me a little bit, but Roman loathes me.
"I knew it! You're a dark side, you're working with them to hurt Thomas! Well this will go on no longer, you're not allowed to leave here without one of us, Logan is able to know whenever someone leaves here so don't think you can get away with it." I almost burst into tears. Really? The one thing keeping me from just giving up is being taken away from me? Why is this world so cruel? I can no longer control myself.
"NO!" I manage to surprise everyone at my outburst, even me "You can't just take that away from me! Who do you think you are that you can stop me? Or do you just want me to die?" I freeze as stop to rethink what I said, looking fearfully at all of their shocked faces. Without another word I bolt back to my room, slamming the door shut and leaning against it. I slowly slide down to the floor, tears streaming down my face. They're gonna stop me, I know it. So why bother? I don't have the energy today, but tomorrow, tomorrow I'll finally be free of them.
Liam's P.O.V.
I wake up, surprised it's noon already. I notice a much lighter feeling is in the air, it hasn't been this way since- before Virgil formed! I race downstairs, panic clear on my face.
"Guys, we need to check on Virgil." I say, worry overtaking me. Whenever I'm too worried or panicked my habit of lying stops altogether, something I have no control of. They both look worried, before they realize why too.
"We can only check on Thomas." Ian says, and without a moments hesitation I turn on the TV that lets us see through Thomas's eyes. There's a camera in front of him, and he's acting super care-free. He's just talking about food? Why would he make a video about that? I groan as Logan rises up, an annoyed look on his face too. he mentions Thomas being careless, which recaptures my attention. Why would Thomas be careless if Virgil was doing his job? He's not, that's how, but why? Is Virgil okay? What if he's not? As the others come up I zone out slightly, ironically, anxiety consuming me, until Patton shouts a phrase that makes me even more concerned.
"Where is Anxiety?" He asks, but no one pays him much mind as Thomas goes to get more food. It's annoying though, when Roman speaks up as Thomas takes his hood off.
"You know, there are a lot of viewer who are gonna see you like this." Virgil would usually say that, and then they'd yell at him for it, but if Roman says it then it's okay?
Virgil doesn't appear still, even when he's summoned, and Thomas attempts to say something that would usually make even him panic. They all start listing the obvious, but dread fills my stomach as I realize where they're going with this.
"I have no anxiety, is that what you guys are trying to say?" Thomas asks, putting the nail in the coffin for me. As they continue talking they eventually convince Thomas to go to Virgil's room, and for once I'm on board with them suggesting to invade his privacy but only so we can make sure Virgil is alright. I wince as they examine his room, it looks exactly like it used to when he still lived here. I zone out with panic once more as they continue talking, until a familiar voice snaps me out of it.
"What're you doing in my room?" Virgil shouts, looking around panickedly. We all sigh in relief, he's okay. It takes some persuading, but they finally get him back to the real world, and they actually accept him, a miracle within itself. Of course, there's always the possibility that he'll leave us for them, but if he does, then we'll let him. There's no point forcing your presence on someone who hates you, Virgil had to, but we don't, so we won't.
Virgil's P.O.V.
I can't believe it. I actually told them my name. What will the others think? They'll obviously have watched through Thomas's point of view, I know they care about me. Though I can't help but glare at Roman as he tells me I'm nothing compared to them. They are way better than me, so that's a big fat lie. Plus he made Thomas and in turn me, panic since he mentioned them. Way to go.
As soon as the video is over I head to the door for the subconscious. I don't even bother turning around, I know they're all watching me.
"Don't even think about it." I say coldly, walking out at a brisk pace. I hear a collective sigh from behind me, but no one makes a move to stop me.
As soon as I open the door to the dark mindscape I'm enveloped in a giant group hug, which I gladly accept. We spend a few minutes like that before actually walking inside. Before I can say anything Ian speaks up.
"I'm really proud of you. It must've taken a lot of courage to trust them, and in the end you returned to help Thomas, not to feel good about yourself like they might've." He says, a proud yet slightly sad on his smile face. I nod.
"Well the reason I even disappeared in the first place was because they were being jerks. If I could, I would've stayed for you guys, but they had decided it was too dangerous to let me keep coming back here, because Roman decided to follow me yesterday." I say, looking around nervously. I practically feel the anger course through them, their thoughts immediately focused on what the others did.
"How'd you respond?" Aron asks cautiously, looking like he's ready to kill Roman.
"Um, well, I kinda" I sigh, closing my eyes "Isaid 'Whodoyouthinkyouarethatyoucanstopme? Ordoyoujustwantmetodie?'"I rush out, wincing slightly as I open my eyes. Despite my efforts I can tell they still understood everything I said. Now the all look even angrier, but neither of them are anywhere near as furious as Liam is.
"Okay, I'm not about to murder a b****." Liam says angrily, starting towards the front door. I grab his arm, panic coursing through me.
"No! If you do that they'll only have proof that I shouldn't come here!" I say worriedly "Plus, they'll probably hurt you too! I can't let you get hurt because of me!" I exclaim, tugging harder. He stops and turns, looking at me with surprise.
"You're not more concerned about me getting hurt?" He says, yet there is no malice in his tone. I hold his gaze.
"I could always just break their rules and visit anyways, but you getting hurt wouldn't be as easy to fix." I say, concerned for his safety more than my own.
"But if you don't break the rules you'll get hurt." He says, earning a nod from Ian and Aron. I smile slightly.
"Yeah, but you guys matter more." I say, and before he can even react I pull him into a tight hug "You guys have done so much for me, you saved me from 5 years with the other sides and were nothing but supportive, I can never repay you, but I can keep you from getting hurt." I admit, not daring to open my eyes, instead focusing on the point of their emotions and thoughts. Shock is the biggest emotion, the second one being fondness. I can't help the small smile that grows on my face as he hugs e back, Aron and Ian joining in too. We spend the rest of the night like that, just enjoying the time we have together.
~Roughly 1 year later~
I can't help but be anxious, I mean it's in the name. Liam's finally showing up today, he's gonna be in a video. Unfortunately the only way to reveal himself is to first pretend to be someone else, and it's easier to be his opposite, so Patton's taking the fall for this one. However, Deceit's just gonna put him to sleep for the time, he'll just be dreaming. The plan is for me to summon him after Deceit's revealed himself, so everyone can see he's okay. Liam's gonna try to convince Thomas to lie, but for both of our sakes I have to go against him, even he knows that this isn't the right situation to lie in.
I appear as my moment comes up, Liam scared Thomas slightly since he can't really rise up, but Roman made it easy for me to find a cue to come in. We spend the rest of the time figuring out the different types of lying, and finally the time comes for Deceit to show himself. I watch in pretend fear as he shows how truly dark he can be, letting the others know not to mess with him. When he starts making Thomas panic though I decide it's time for Patton to come, considering that the majority of his panic is transferring to me. The way he's freaking out? That's less than 1% of how anxious he would be if I didn't do something, he'd be in a full on anxiety attack. Patton appears and Liam acts surprised, pretending to actually be hurt by Patton rising up beneath him, while simply stepping aside instead as soon as he sees Patton start to appear. He sends a glance my way, one that no one seems to notice, but it's full of concern. He knows how much worry I take off Thomas, and after seeing just how bad Thomas reacted he knows I'll be doing worse. I nod subtly, letting him know I'll be alright for now. He continues with his act, and after the videos done he appears in the light sides commons. Roman Patton and Logan are all glaring at him while I'm staring blankly, unsure how to react. He's thinking the same thing, but Roman decides it for us by taking out his sword and stepping towards him, aiming it at his chest. I quickly step in front of him, despite what it might seem that's a real sword that could easily actually kill him. Everyone seems surprised at my action, Patton being the most sympathetic.
"Kiddo, you shouldn't do that. But Roman, put your sword away, he didn't hurt me or anything, I actually had some really cool dreams during that time." He says soft, putting a gentle hand on Roman's shoulder. He reluctantly puts it away, still staring at me, with my hands out on either side in between him and Deceit, by back to Liam at the moment. His eyes narrow.
"Why'd you protect a villain?" He asks suspiciously. Really? I knew he didn't trust me fully, but to immediately assume I'm working with them to help destroy Thomas still?
"Because even he agrees that this wasn't the right time to lie, this was just the only way to reveal himself, whereas you and Logan genuinely believed lying was a good idea." I say, not caring how they react. I won't let them hurt him like they did to me. They seem even more surprised.
"He's not right about that." Liam speaks up, glaring back at Roman.
"How did you know this?" Logan asks, a suspecting look on his face.
"Virgil's actually the one who summoned me you know. You can tell who summons you, did you really think that with Thomas believing Deceit was the real me he'd summon the actual me?" Patton steps in, a kind smile on his face directed towards Liam, who nods.
"Did you plan this?!" Roman exclaims, pointing between me and Liam. I don't know how to respond. Do I tell the truth and risk getting thrown out or do I lie and throw Liam under the bus? Obviously I go with the first option.
"Yeah, there was no harm in it. Thomas is a good person, of course he'd end up telling the truth, and why wouldn't I let my friend reveal himself?" I say, stepping defensively towards Liam. Now Logan's eyes narrow, and I can tell he's wondering whether I'm gonna try to do something like this again.
"Friend? You've made an alliance with them? They're bad for Thomas, why would you do this? Are you trying to betray us?" I sigh, my expression hardening.
"Do you remember the exact reason I ducked out? Didn't I ask you something like 'Do you want me to die' when you suggested I'm not allowed to visit them? Also, if they weer so bad, then why would they accept me the second they saw me when the people who make Thomas the open and accepting person he is cast me as a villain the second they learned who I was?" I point out, my pent up anger starting to come out. They all look surprised, Patton looks extremely guilty as well, wondering if he's the cause of this.
"Do you know how easy it was to not come here and make you stop hurting him?" Liam asks, stepping closer to me "Or for Arrogance or Insanity? You were horrible." He says harshly, glaring at them.
"Insanity? Arrogance? Why would they care about the well-being of someone else?" Roman asks obliviously. I voice something I've thought for a while.
"Did you know when we first met you were more arrogant than Arrogance himself?" I ask, earning small nods from Patton and Logan, no matter how guilty they look for agreeing.
"Still, why would they?" Roman asks, ignoring my comment. I sigh, glancing at Liam. He nods, and we summon them.
"Who's hurting you? I'm strong enough to beat them. Oh." Aron says as he sees it was Roman. He steps towards him but I grab his arm, signalling to him that it's not the time. He sighs.
"Okay, what did they do though? Did they react badly to learning the truth?" Ian asks, glancing around and nodding with a sigh as well.
"Virgil, what happened?" Patton asks quietly, guilt evident on his face. I focus on him, keeping my expression blank.
"I neither formed as a light side nor a dark side. While you guys didn't do anything Deceit came out to the subconscious to greet me, with all intents of helping me." I say, but Roman decides to cut in.
"He's a liar! So he really wanted to hurt you!" I resist the urge to facepalm, just barely. Instead I simply point to each of them in turn, telling them what they're thinking.
"He's a dark side, why did I ever trust him?" I say pointing at Roman, surprising him "What did I do?" I now aim towards Patton "What is he doing?" I finish with Logan. They all look surprised, including Liam Ian and Aron "How do you think I knew which direction to go in the giant sea of black out there? It allows me to overthink everything people ever think about me, but I usually block it out, only reading the emotions so I have an idea of how to act. The farther I get the harder it is to read, until I only understand that there are thoughts and emotions in that area." I explain, trying to keep my expression unreadable. Everyone's surprised, as well as slightly guilty.
"That's- how?" Logan mutters. I simply shrug.
"So that's how I knew that you still didn't trust me, I heard every insult you said about me in your heads, every time you got upset at me I could tell, and every time one of you acted the opposite of how you felt I knew." I say, glancing around at them.
"Kiddo, I'm sorry if I ever made you feel unaccepted, that was wrong of me. As for you three, I won't make the same mistake. I'll happily accept you as part of our family if you'll let me." Patton says, still somehow seeing the positive to this. I glance back at Liam Aron and Ian, and Liam steps forwards slightly.
"As long as the other two don't cooperate." He says, an untrusting look sent towards Logan and Roman. I don't blame him.
"Cookies?" Ian asks, smiling. I shake my head with a smile.
"It was one time! You helped!" I say, making him laugh.
"Yeah, but it was priceless to see you like that, smoke everywhere and the sprinklers going off while we cleaned up." He says, smirking.
"Remember when you stuck your hand in a blender and sunk down, yodeling in front of these three for fun?" Now all four of us laugh, Roman Logan and Patton staring in bewilderment.
"Hey Stormcloud, didn't you decide that you wanted Thomas to have 'I am the walrus' stuck in his head?" Aron says, making me laugh and point at Liam.
"I dared him to do a weird song! He's the one who decided on that one." I say, glancing at him. He smiles.
"Hey, Patton didn't like it too." He says, and I just shrug.
"Yeah, and you threw yourself face down on the couch after the first video you were in." Aron points out.
"Hey, that was justified, I'm sure you would've too had you been in my shoes." I say, he nods.
"Remember when you first showed up? It was probably the best thing that ever happened to us. Plus it gave us an excuse to watch Disney until midnight. Then you and I woke everyone up with the cookies since we couldn't sleep." Ian says, smiling still.
"Like I said, it was your idea to bake." I respond, unable to keep the happiness from showing on my face.
"What about the time you managed to make the entire place go pitch black for an hour to convince us we went blind?" Liam asks, smirking. I snort.
"Yeah, like that worked. It was dark for me too, so the only person I convinced was myself." I say, making them laugh.
"Deceit, you're the one who thought that the best game to play every time we were given the choice was truth or dare." Aron points out, a slightly smug smile on his face. We all laugh again, including Liam.
"You're the one who figured out the names too. Virgil the Vigilant, Ia- hey, it works for them too!" Ian exclaims, pointing at Patton Logan and Roman "Patton the Paternal, Roman the Romantic, it's even a pun, Logan the Logical." He says, glancing at them, before looking back to us for permission. Liam and Aron nod, so he continues "Aron the Arrogant, Liam the Liar, and Ian the Iansane." We smile again.
"Still using the old pun?" I ask, smirking. He shrugs.
"What about the time you decided to flip gravity?" Aron asks, smirking once more. Ian shrugs.
"That was cool though." He says simply, I nod.
"Yeah, that was pretty cool. Especially since I was the only one to figure out how to manage it. Not even you could." I say with a laugh.
"What if I did that again?" He asks, and without warning we're all falling towards the ceiling. I laugh again, happily bounding across the ceiling and avoiding all the falling objects. Ian tries to dodge them and fails, falling flat on his face. He smirks as I laugh, grabbing my feet and pulling them out from underneath me. I just laugh again and soon we're wrestling, rolling around on the ceiling as everyone else watches in confusion and amusement. I manage to pin him down, counting to three before standing up victoriously. Once I do I realize that we gave absolutely no warning to the other three, who are lying helplessly on the ceiling next to us. I walk over calmly and help Patton up with a small chuckle, who just smiles and helps the other two. I help Ian up, to which he promptly tackles me again. I knock him down easily, this time helping Liam and Aron before him. After a moment I get an idea.
"You know what would make this better?" Everyone shakes their heads no "Snow!" I say, and a giant load of snow dumps onto the ceiling, allowing me to grab some and peg Liam with it.
"Oh, it is so not on." He says, quickly making multiple snowballs and throwing them at me in quick succession. I duck them all, making a snow fort. A full on war breaks out between all 7 of us, all arguments forgotten for the moment. We spend an hour up here before anything of real note happens. That thing being Thomas summoning us. I accidentally hit him in the face with a snowball, making him look up.
"Sorry!" I call out, grinning. He just stares up at all of us, standing on the ceiling with snow everywhere, also sticking, as well as there being two new sides with Deceit, all grinning as widely as the rest of us.
"Who are they? And what is happening?!" I just laugh.
"Meet Deceit, the real him not the facade he put up for the video, Insanity and Arrogance." I say happily, hitting Liam with another snowball. This causes everyone to start throwing them at each other, leaving a every confused Thomas.
"How?!!" He exclaims, making the four of us laugh again, while Patton Logan and Roman shrug.
"With Insanity you just learn to roll with it." I say, creating more snow since we're starting to run out.
"Hey you made the snow!" Ian says, causing me to laugh again.
"Guys, Joan and Talyn are coming over!" He says, but before it can register in our heads the door bursts open, revealing the every people he just mentioned. They blink, staring at all of us now standing stock still on the ceiling.
"Thomas, care to explain?" Talyn asks, smirking slightly. Thomas just shrugs.
"I don't know either." Joan looks closer.
"Wait, isn't that Deceit? Wasn't he-" I cut him off by hitting him in the face with a snowball.
"Virgil." Liam chides, yet he's still smiling. I just smile back.
"No one insults my friends." I say casually, starting the snow war back up again. I hear Thomas talking to them as we continue to fight, until Ian decides he's done being upside down.
We all fall to the floor with a scream as he snaps his fingers, landing in the giant piles of snow.
"Great, now I have to change!" I say jokingly, making Patton look confused.
"But don't you have multiple of your hoodie? I know you had at least 7 of your old one." I shake my head.
"No, this one they made for me the day before I became a light side." I explain, before hitting Ian in the face with yet another snowball.
"Hey! Like I said, you made the snow, so it's your fault you're soaked." He says, returning the favor. Talyn looks over at us.
"I thought you made the hoodie? And who are they?" Talyn says, glancing at them.
"Insanity" He bows "Deceit" He grins "And Arrogance" He makes a dramatic pose. Talyn looks even more confused.
"But aren't they dark sides? You're not, are you?" They ask, making me shrug.
"I'm not a light side or a dark side, I had a choice and they were nicer so I I was a dark side for 5 years before I was forced out of the dark mindscape by whatever force controls Thomas's mind. As you can see, we are quite close." In response to this Aron throws another snowball at me, hitting me square in the chest.
"Yes, quite." He says with a smirk. I roll my eyes.
"As we learned he's willing to jump in front of a sword for them." Roman says, a hint of spite in his tone. I glare at him.
"Yeah, your sword because you were trying to literally kill them!" I exclaim, still unable to just let that slide.
"Hey, don't calm down." Liam says gently. I turn to him.
"He pointed a sword at you! If I hadn't stepped in you would've gotten hurt!" I shout, surprised he's taking it so well. He just shrugs.
"We can't heal ourselves." I sigh, I'm not gonna get anywhere by continuing to argue.
"Yeah, otherwise I'd be dead by know." Ian says smiling. I nod reluctantly.
"Wait, Insanity, why would you be dead?" Joan asks, slightly worried. Ian smirks, an insane gleam in his eyes. Without any warning or hesitation he summons a Dragon-Witch even bigger than the one Roman fought in video. He hops on it, laughing as it tries to bite his head off, breathing fire everywhere. I roll my eyes, smirking, much to the surprise of the others.
"How are you guys so calm about this?" Thomas shouts, ducking away from it. I shrug.
"It can't really hurt us. Plus" I throw a chunk of snow into the Dragon's mouth, successfully extinguishing its fire "You learn how to deal with it after the first year with him." I say, still smiling. Aron grabs his own weapon, a ruby sword that's much more decorated than Roman's silver samurai sword. He stabs it, making it disappear in a puff of purple smoke.
"Hey!" Ian says, falling to the ground. We laugh again, before Ian tackles him, throwing his sword to the side and wrestling with him. Liam looks at me and with the flick of his wrist he holds my hands back before pegging me in the face with yet another piece of snow. I laugh, spitting it out.
"Hey no fair!" I lunge forwards, submerging him in a snowbank. Now he spits the snow out, throwing it back at me. So no there are two pairs of sides wrestling on the ground and laughing well everyone else looks on, confused as hell.
"Um, guys? You okay there?" Thomas asks cautiously, looking down at us. I shrug, deciding that snow's gotten boring.
"How about rain instead?" I say, standing up. A crack of lightning makes everyone jump, as it appears in the middle of Thomas's living room.
"Look, Stormcloud didn't make a stormcloud." Liam says, smirking. I roll my eyes.
"How about no?" Aron says, making us all smirk.
"Let it go. You'll never be as good as me, no no no, no no no, how about, NO!" We sing, smiling the entire time.
"Why haven't you guys shown yourselves earlier? I'm sure that I would've welcomed you." Thomas asks, yet he hesitates as he says the second part, slightly unsure.
"Well even if you had, they wouldn't." Ian says, jerking a finger towards Roman Patton and Logan. Liam and Aron nod.
I guess it still will take a while to adjust to everyone here, but at least we can all be one giant family now. Everything will work out eventually, no matter what happens. Through truths and lies.
It's good to be back! Sorry for the wait, I've been really busy for the past few weeks. I'll try to updater more. Thanks everyone for reading!
