Taehyung could have broken up with me months ago. I rarely replied to his texts and sometimes even got in the way of him fucking other girls. But he didn't. Because he knew that I couldn't. Although we had never spoken an honest word with each other, I knew how much he enjoyed it. Letting me suffer, that is. As much as I couldn't stand seeing his face, knowing what he did to Jungkook and to me, I was still a coward. I had thought countless times about leaving him, about dumping his lying, cheating, violent ass only for my fear to take over. He had power over me, the power of pictures I had sent him in a love drunk haze.
Yes, there was a time where I felt something for Taehyung. A crush, nothing more. But this small spark of affection made me do stupid things. Ignoring his reputation as a bully and fuckboy for example. And then, after sending him pictures and finally getting the satisfaction of Tae calling me his girlfriend, I noticed how badly I had fucked up. This wasn't a relationship; it was a trap.
And for a few months I was okay with it, he was only hurting me and I was used to it. But ever since learning about Jungkook and his history with Taehyung, I couldn't stand it anymore. This was no longer only affecting me. I could no longer pretend for this to be okay.
The realization had formed in my mind the second that Jimin told me about Tae's bruises at my parents' restaurant. But I couldn't carry it out. I needed help.
It was Saturday morning, a beautiful sunny one. Although I hesitated at first, I had agreed to Yoongi's proposal of me tutoring Jungkook and helping him catch up on school stuff. And so, I put on a pair of ripped blue jeans, a mustard-coloured layered top and some white sneakers. My braided hair was attacked by the wind as I rode my bike through town. While I did live relatively central, the address my upperclassman had texted me was a bit farther away. Upon arrival, I noticed that this district was definitely a bit more luxurious than what I was used to. After nervously fixing my hair and clothes, I rang at the door, praying for Jungkook to be healthy. I honestly didn't know if I could look at his bruises. Not that any of it was really my fault - but I felt horribly guilty. As if my mere connection to Taehyung made all of this happen. Finally, Yoongi opened the door. He was wearing a black hoodie and a pair of destroyed jeans. It was weird seeing him without our school uniform. He smiled and gestured for me to come in. I quickly took off my shoes while he babbled something about ordering pizza later for everyone. Seemed like a good plan.
"Then let's go, this way", Yoongi pointed at the stairs, waves of guilt overcoming me again. We reached our destination far too quickly. Although Yoongi had led the way, he simply knocked on the door, yelling "Kookie-ah, your friend's here", before skipping down the stairs again and leaving me.
With trembling fingers, I turned the door knob, poking my head through the frame. Jungkook laid in his bed and looked... fine? "Hey Hayoon, come on in", he smiled and put his laptop aside.
I did as he told me and stepped closer into his room. It was simple, a few white pieces of furniture, the centre piece being his expensive gaming pc. "How are you feeling?", I finally managed to get out the words stuck in my throat.
Jungkook adjusted his hair, sitting a bit more upright "Alright. The doctor said that I just have to rest a bit more", his brows furrowed at the last part.
"Oh, I hope it's not been too boring so far", that was the only cliché phrase I could think of. Whenever my look fell on Jungkook, my brain replayed the images of Taehyung's bruised knuckles and Jimin's observation. I took a deep breath "I'm sorry. I truly am", my voice shaking.
Jungkook opened his mouth but I continued "I feel horrible, I'm Taehyungs girlfriend and he... he – ", choking on my own words. I turned my face away to hide the watery eyes. Why was I so stupid?
"Hayoon, it's not your fault. Not in any way", Jungkook calmed me down and patted on the empty space next to him "You can sit down if you want to"
It was like our roles were reversed, suddenly I was shy and trembled and my younger classmate was the mature one, offering me a seat.
We sat in silence for a bit before Jungkook continued the conversation "You have no reason to feel bad. In fact, it's awesome of you to come over and visit me", he smiled his signature smile and I already felt a bit better.
"I'm trying to do something about it. But... I guess Taehyung is dangerous for both of us", my words couldn't express how much I despised my so called boyfriend. And they didn't have to, Jungkook gave me an approving nod. He understood.
"I bet Jimin-hyung is super jealous of you right now", he smirked, changing the topic.
How did he even know that? "What...- ", I raised an eyebrow.
Jungkook blushed a bit "Oh... I uhm... meant because of my brother"
I grinned. This kid. "Jungkook, I'm starting tothink you already know everything there is in the world"
