Chapter Two

The next morning after I had gotten myself ready for breakfast, I went across the hall to the girls’ room. I knocked on the door. “Come in.” Said a voice.

“Good morning girls. How are you today?” I asked them with a big smile.

“We are fine. How are you?” said Jasmine. What great manners these children have.

“I’m fine. Are you ready for breakfast or do you need help with your hair and such?” I asked them. Sara was sitting on the bed with a pretty pink bow in her hair. Amelia had just finished getting dressed and had put her hair in pigtails with purple ribbons.

“I could use some help if you don’t mind,” said Jasmine. She hadn’t even begun to dress herself. Everyone was wearing the same dress they wore yesterday.

“I don’t mind. Come sit down,” I told her. She sat on the stool in front of the vanity. I started to comb her hair. “Do you want your hair down or in a braid?”

“I would like it down please. Mama said I looked best with my hair down,” she said.

“Mama was right,” said Sarah. She smiled.

“Where did you get the ribbons?” I asked Jasmine.

“They were in this box. Is it alright to use them?” she replied with a concerned voice.

“You can have them. I was wondering where those ribbons were. I was just going to give them away anyways. Keep them,” I reassured her. “Done. Are you ready to eat?”

“Oh yes. I’m starving,” said Amelia. “Can we check on our brothers first?”

“Of course. Let’s go over then,” I told her. We walked out into the hallway and knocked on the boys’ door.

“Come in,” said a voice from inside the room. All the boys were ready.

“Are you ready for breakfast?” I asked.

“Yes ma’am. We were waiting for our sisters. Are you all ready?” asked Cooper kindly.

“We are starving. Now let’s go,” replied Amelia. We turned around and headed out the door. I led the way to the breakfast room.

“Wait out here for a minute,” I told them. I walked into the room. “Has father eaten yet?” I asked a butler.

“No your highness. He instructed me to tell you that the children shall eat with you for every meal,” he said.

“Thank you.” I opened up the door. “You can come in now. Go ahead and take a seat, but just don’t sit in the biggest chair. It’s my father’s chair.”

“Why did we have to wait in the hallway?” asked Sarah.

“I wanted to make sure that you are to eat with us. I thought you were going to eat in the kitchen,” I answered.

“I think we will eat in the kitchen. Fine dining does not agree with us,” said Henry.

“Well, the king said that you are to eat in here. You can’t disobey him. I’m sure he won’t be mad if you mess up. I’ll teach you after my lessons. Would you like to join me during my lessons? You might learn something new,” I said. As soon as I finished talking the door flew open. My father walked in.

“Where is my breakfast?” he asked.

“It is on its way right now, Your Majesty,” said a butler. Then a door was opened and in walked the chefs carrying platters of hot, steaming food. The children’s eyes became as big as saucers. There was eggs, toast, bacon, sausage, fruit, doughnuts, pancakes, bagels, muffins, milk, and coffee.
