The blackness surrounded me, and my chest started to catch fire as the air in my lungs started to run out. I kicked and held my breath as much as possible, not wasting any oxygen.

It was then when I was pulled back onto the surface. I started to cough up the water I had swallowed, and I could hear heavy panting.

"Michael... can you not swim?" I looked over at Luke and shook my head.

"No." I answered after getting rest of the remaining water that had made it's way into me, out.

"Do you want me to teach you?" I shook my head and he then came over to the side of the pool which I hung onto.

"Okay, I am going to bring you over to the shallow part by the steps. Just keep hold of me." He said. He grabbed onto my waist before starting to swim. Once my arms left the wall, I grabbed onto him with all my strength.

Slowly Luke brought me over to the shallow end of the pool. My feet were stood on the bottom while my head still stuck out above the water level.

"Okay, bring your feet off the ground and let's get started."

Since I used to swim a lot when I was younger, I just had to get into the habit again. Within a few minutes I was swimming once more, and Luke didn't have to be concerned about me drowning every time he let go of me.

"So, think we got powers yet?" I asked as the full moon hung over our heads.

"Nah, I got that from a little kid show. It wasn't real." He admitted.

We were sat on the steps at the moment. I was on the upper step, while he was lower one. His head was rested in my lap as the water splashed against us.

"It's really nice out." He mumbled.

"Yeah, it is. It's so quiet." I stated. There wasn't any crickets chirping or anything like that. It was just silent under the full moon.

"Lukey?"

"Yeah Mikey?"

"We're friends right?"

"Yeah, for sure. Why do you ask?"

"I was just wondering."

He then lifted his head up and then dove into the water. I waited a few seconds before he came up.

"C'mere I want to show you something." He said.

I doggy-paddled over to him and then stayed above the water.

"Do you trust me?" I don't know why, I didn't have to think about this question before I answered.

"Yes."

"Hold your breath." He said, before grabbing my hands and pulling me under the water. Thankfully I had got a breath before he did.

It seemed like we went down forever. Then we reached a hard surface, the bottom of the pool. I had never opened my eyes underwater, but I should have. Because when I opened them Luke was in front of me, a bit cloudly since I couldn't see through the water well, but it was good enough.

It felt like forever we were under the water, and for some reason I wasn’t running out of air. It was like time was standing still.

Luke then swam closer to me. One of his arms grabbed my waist and pulled me close to him. My hipbones collided with his, and his ribs hit mine. He ran his hand down my back, and then traced patterns onto my skin. That’s when my chest started to burn.

I opened my mouth trying to speak, but then I realized that I had let all of the air out of my mouth get away. Luke must have seen because he kicking started to swim up, bring me with him. When we hit the surface, and both were able to breathe.
