Ivy Booker
When the weekend rolled around, I was not looking forward to going to my mom's house, but I was looking forward to Lucas's party which I hope and pray my mom let's me go to. Even if she didn't, I was going to sneak out and go anyways, because I wasn't missing the party that the whole school has been talking about.
"You sure you wanna go over there?" My dad asked me, for the umpteenth time. "You know you don't have to. You don't owe your mama anything, and if you just say the word-"
"Dad, dad...I know. I know I don't owe her anything, but I already agreed to stay with her and I'm a woman of my word." I told him.
"Don't say that shit again." My dad hates when I refer to myself as a woman, but it's the truth. I'm not his little girl anymore and I know he hates that.
"It's the truth, dad." I laughed. "Why don't you want me to go over there? There has to be a serious reason." I sat down next to him on my bed, sitting Indian style, as I glanced at him. He sighed heavily, rubbing his eyes, as he sat up.
"On some real shit...I don't want you liking it better over there and then trying to up and leave from over here. I know I come down hard on you, but that's only because I want nothing but the best for you." He said.
"You have nothing to worry about, okay? I would never leave you and go live with my mom, no matter how hard you come down on me. Ew, that sounded so gross, but you know what I mean." He laughed, playfully tapping me on my head.
"Get your head out of the gutter, shawty." My phone started vibrating on the nightstand table and he quickly grabbed it, looking down at my screen as his eyebrows furrowed. I hope and pray that it wasn't Bella texting me about that party, because if my dad found out that I was planning on going...he'd put a stop to it immediately. "Uh...Ivy?"
"Huh?" I said, trying to act as innocent as I could.
"Who the hell is Tay?" I sighed with relief, nervously rubbing the back of my neck, as I looked up at him.
"He's a friend from school. We met on the first day and we've become quick friends since then."
"Uh-huh...and do you like him?" He asked me.
"Dad, seriously?" I huffed.
"That's not an answer."
"I like him as a friend." I told him.
"You like Gabriel as a friend too, don't you?" He questioned, arching an eyebrow.
"Ugh, dad! Please get out!"
"Ugh, Ivy! Please pay a bill." He said, nonchalantly. I huffed and placed my hands over my face, groaning irritably as I peeked at my dad through my fingers. He chuckled, handing me my phone, and standing up. "I'll leave you alone so you can finish getting ready, but best believe...this conversation ain't over."
"Okay...love you." I smiled, waving at him.
"Yeah, yeah. I love you too." I waited until he walked out of the room, before I checked the text message from Tay.
Tay: Wyd?
Me: Getting ready to go over my mom's house. Wbu?
Tay: Hanging out with the homies. You going to that Lucas dude's party?
Me: Yeah, I'm planning on it.
Tay: Good. Make sure you save me a dance.
Me: You don't wanna dance with me. I have two left feet, lol.
Tay: Lol I believe it, but I don't mind holding you up while we dance.
A smile spread across my face, as I bit down on my bottom lip, thinking of a flirtatious response. I didn't want to come off strong, especially since I'm still getting to know him, but I also wanted him to know that I was attracted to him.
Me: Well in that case...I'll definitely save you a dance
After sending that text, I received a text from my mom, letting me know that she was pulling up in five minutes. I frowned, rolling my eyes, as I climbed off of the bed and went to finish packing up my clothes.
Once I was packed, I headed downstairs and went to say my goodbyes to everyone, before I left the house. I feel like I was leaving and not coming back, but who knows what will happen between now and Sunday.
"You acting like you're not coming back." Sariyah said, as I hugged her.
"What is wrong with all ya'll? I am coming back, I promise." I said, shaking my head.
"You say that now, but I bet you gon want to stay over there." TJ chimed in.
"Put your money where your mouth is then, baby brother."
"How much you got?"
"Twenty bucks?" I said, showing them a twenty dollar bill.
"I'm in." Sariyah smirked.
"Me too." TJ said. We always betting money, which I always win the bets, making easy money and getting out of my chores.
"Cool. Be ready to pay up Sunday afternoon, but until then...I'll see you guys later." I assured them, walking out of the house and slowly making my way towards my mom's car. Alright now...time to get this over with.
