"Do you think they'll ever come around?" I asked Gabe, as we laid side by side, looking up at the nighttime sky. He held my hand in his, bringing it up to his lips as he kissed it.
"I sure hope so." He sighed. "It would make things so much easier."
"You know...we really don't need their approval. We can always elope before college starts." We turned our heads and looked at each other. "We'll both be eighteen and our parents wouldn't have no say in anything we decide to do."
"Is that what you really want to do?" He asked me.
"Ugh, no. Of course I want a traditional wedding, nothing too big, but something small and intimate. Family and friends only, all joined together to celebrate our love." I told him, looking back up at the sky.
"That sounds perfect, baby. We can have that and then some. Whatever you want." He assured me. I smiled a little, sitting up, as I checked the time.
"I should get home. Since the engagement announcement, my parents have been watching me like a hawk." My relationship with my parents has never been so tense, but since the whole engagement thing...they've been acting awkward.
"We'll get through this baby."
"I know we will." I said, giving him a small smile.

After kissing Gabe goodnight, I headed into the house, stopping dead in my tracks when I saw my parents waiting for me.
"Where you been?" My dad asked. "We've been calling you for hours."
"I was with Gabe and I left my phone in the car." I said, moving some loose curls out of my face. "What's wrong?"
"We just don't want you out all hours of the night, especially with some boy."
"All hours of the night? Dad...it's nine clock. Is this seriously what we're about to start doing? All over an engagement?" My mom sighed and grabbed my hand, pulling me into the living room. We all sat down as I nervously looked at them both, not knowing what I had just walked into.
"First of all, your dad and I owe you an apology." She began, making me squint my eyes a little.
"Wait a minute...is this a set up?" I questioned.
"No, crazy girl!" My dad said, making me laugh a little.
"Hey, I just feel like I should ask, but continue."
"Though I still think you're way too young to get married, your dad and I have decided to support whatever decision you make." She said, catching me coming off guard.
"Seriously?"
"I'm not thrilled with you wanting to get married at such a young age, especially when you haven't even experienced life, but I also don't want you running off and eloping."
