Ivy Booker
My hands were shaking as I sat on the edge of Gabe's bed, crying my eyes out, as he sat next to me and consoled me. I didn't know where else to go, because I knew my parents would look for me at Bella and Tay's house, but they wouldn't suspect me to come to Gabe's house.
"Tell me what happened, Ivy." He said, handing me some Kleenex.
"My mom and I got into a heated argument and she slapped me, so I shoved her and ran out of the house. I didn't mean to put my hands on her, but she made me so mad!" I cried. He hugged me tight, rubbing my shoulders, as I cried into his armpit. Sounds weird, I know, but the way we were sitting...his armpit was the only place I could lay my big ass head.
"I wish I could say something that will make you feel better, but I'm not sure what to say in this situation."
"I don't expect you to give me an encouraging speech, especially since that isn't your area of expertise, but you just sitting here holding me is making me feel a lot better." I told him.
"Well how bout I give you some clothes to change into, so you can get you some rest. You can take my bed and I'll sleep downstairs on the couch."
"Actually...can you stay in here with me? I really don't want to be alone. I don't even have to sleep on the bed, I can sleep on the floor or something."
"Nah, I'm not letting that happen, but I'll stay in here with you until you fall asleep." He said, getting up and walking over towards his dresser. I watched him as he rummaged through his drawers, looking for me some pajamas to wear, and I couldn't help but think how lucky Bella was to have him. Not only was Gabe attractive, he was sweet, funny, and such a great listener. All in all, he was the whole package.
"Thanks again for this, Gabe. I really appreciate it." I said.
"No need to thank me, Ivy. You know I'm here for you whenever you need me." He assured me. For some reason, that made me feel good, but I couldn't help but to think that something bad was going to happen tomorrow.

The next morning, I was fast asleep in the bed, but when I heard the sounds of my name being called...my eyes shot open.
"IVY! IVY!" The voice belonged to my dad and I could tell that he wasn't happy. The door came flying open, as I quickly sat up in the bed, nervously looking into my dad's angry, relieved orbs. "Get up and let's go!" I climbed out of bed and grabbed my things, following him out of the room.
Gabe was downstairs on the couch, along with his brother, as their parents stood there with their arms folded acrossntheir chest.
"Hey Uncle Zell. Aunt Carmen." I spoke, waving at them.
"Bring ya ass, Ivy!" My dad shouted. I was in big trouble and I knew that for a fact.
When we got home, I tried to hurry up and run upstairs, but my dad grabbed me by the shirt and dragged me into the living room; practically tossing me on the couch. Across from me was my mom and step parents, as they looked at me with relieved, disappointing looks on their faces.
"Ivy, are you okay?" My stepmom asked. I nodded my head as my dad started snapping.
"Clearly she's fine, babe! She's alive and fucking well, sleeping over at lil boys houses like she grown and shit!"
"Dad...nothing happened, he was just-" I began, but he cut me off.
"I DON'T GIVE A FUCK! You know damn well that you shouldn't have taken your hot ass over there! You should've brought your ass home, but instead...you wanna go missing and shit; scaring the hell out of your mama and me!"
"Tevin, calm down." My stepmom said.
"Nah, fuck that shit! Ain't no damn calm down! I was up all night looking for you, when all this damn time...you were over there with Gabe lil ass! No call, no text, no nothing! And on top of all that, you got Bella and Gabe in trouble because you wanted to be grown and shit!" He shouted.
"Dad, I'm sorry!" I cried. "I didn't know where else to go and I was scared that I was going to get in trouble for what I did to mom."
"So you think disappearing was the answer?" My mom questioned. I just shrugged my shoulders, looking down at my legs.
"Don't shrug your fucking shoulders! Speak up, and look at your mama when she's talking to you!" I jumped at my dad's loud voice. Never has he ever yelled at me the way he was yelling at me now, and in all honesty... I was terrified of him.
"I-I shouldn't have done what I did and I'm sorry. Mom, I'm sorry for shoving you and I'm sorry for going missing."
"It's okay baby, but tell me...what's going on with you? I've never known you to have a violent bone in your body. Are you on drugs or some?" She asked. Did she really just ask me that?
"Jackie, shut the fuck up! Hell naw she ain't on no damn drugs, because if she was then I'd know! The problem is that Lil boy she been hanging out with!" He shouted.
"Tay has nothing to do with this!" I said.
"I think he does." My mom pulled something out of her purse, making my eyes widen. It was the pregnancy test that I had taken yesterday, which almost sent me into a serious panic attack. My eyes darted from the test to my dad, seeing the look on his face as he glared at the test.
"A nigga bout to go to jail." I heard him grumble.
"Ivy... you're sexually active?" My stepmom asked. I covered my face and started crying hysterically, nodding my head to her question. "How long?"
"Not long. Just a few months." I told them.
"And how many times have you done it unprotected?" My mom asked.
"Clearly enough times to have to take a fucking pregnancy test!" My dad spat.
"We only did it once, I swear!"
"Once my ass!"
"Dad, I'm telling the truth!"
"It don't even matter, Lil Shawty, because your ass is grounded indefinitely and you won't be seeing that boy again!" He said, pointing at me.
"But...but..." I stammered.
"But what? But what? Say something, so I can knock your fucking teeth down your throat!" He said, about to walk up on me, but my stepmom stopped him before he had a chance to do so.
"Okay now... it's time for you to go take a breather. Come on... let's go upstairs." She said. My bottom lip trembled as I watched my dad leave the living room, giving me a look of hatred and disgust.
"I'm sorry." I whispered.
"Come on baby, we should go." My stepdad said. Of course, instead of comforting me like a mother should, she got up left; but not before turning to me and shaking her head.
"I'm disappointed in you, Ivy. But I still love you." And with that, she turned and walked out of the house.
