Anne's POV

Marilla and Matthew came towards me and Gilbert and they motioned for us to stand up.

We immediately stood up and followed them inside.

I watched the house in awe. It was more beautiful that I could have ever imagined.

I followed Marilla into the kitchen and sat down on a chair. Then, Gilbert casually sat down right next to me, looking around.

"If I'm not wrong. You two must be hungry so just take a seat and your food will be ready in no time." said Marilla and as she was about to leave I spoke up.

"I can help." I quickly stood up.

"You can?" asked Marilla.

"Yes, I learned at the asy-, my mum. I learned from my mum." I said, chuckling awkwardly and I mentally face-palmed.

"Well, come on then." smiled Marilla.

Gilbert just pretended like his feet hurt so he wouldn't do anything.

"That's not fair." I whispered to Gilbert and I was about to leave when...

"I didn't make you ask Marilla if she needed help." He whispered.

"It's called being polite. You should try it sometime." I answered and left.

As I followed Marilla. I remembered how me and my brother sneaked out and baked at one in the morning when everybody was asleep... Well, until he was adopted and was taken away from me.

"Are you quite alright, Cordelia?" asked Marilla, looking at me.

"Yeah, of course I am." I said.

"Then, why do you have tears coming out of your eyes?" she smiled softly.

"I am exercising for a... play?"

"Cordelia, is this the first time you go away from your family?"

Little did she know that I didn't even remember my parents. But, if I said that, I would get kicked out, faster than anybody can tell... engagement.

"Y-yes."

"Cordelia..." She said and sighed. "I know it must be hard to not have your parents around but you're lucky enough to have this young man." She said and pointed at Gilbert, who was already looking at me and as soon as I looked at his direction, he smiled at me. "And he seems to care quite a lot about you."

"Yes, I guess he does." I said, smiling back at him. Then, I turned around and walked towards the sink.

I filled a glass of water and started drinking it when Marilla said.

"Young love..."  She sighed.

I almost spit out the entire water. I kindly smiled and said.

"Do you think that people fall in love at such a young age?" I asked her.

"Well... I did." She hesitantly said.

"What happened?"

"Well, he got married with another woman. He came and asked for my hand in marriage but I had to stay and take care of my mum as well as Matthew, so I didn't really have any time left for romance."

I looked at her with pity.

"How tragical..."

Marilla turned and looked at me.
