Anne's POV

I was so mad at him that I didn't even think about what I was saying, but it didn't take a genius to know when they've hit a nerve.

"You heard me..." I said as I saw him take a step closer to me.

"I'm the coward? The last time I checked I was the one who took your side because you didn't say anything."

"Name one example."

"Josie."

Now, we were looking at each other. We were really close our noses were almost touching. He looked so mad but as soon as I looked into his eyes I noticed the hurt that he was trying to hide.

"I could handle it on my own. I didn't ask for your help. I never do." I said as I looked at him.

"What would you do if I didn't help?"

"I would give her a piece of my mind."

"You would sit quietly and pray for the best, Anne."

"I probably would, if I was a coward like you." I fired back.

"What makes me a coward, Shirley?"

Ouch.

"Maybe, the fact that you leave instead of stay and talk to me?" I asked as I challenged him.

"I'm willing to talk but you will make it seem like I'm wrong so it's not worth it." said Gilbert as he waited for my answer.

"Have you ever thought that it was because you are wrong?" I asked.

"Get off your high horse."

"Says the one with a big ego." I said back at him.

"You know what, Shirley?"

"What, Blythe?"

"Go and talk to your little boyfriend and leave me alone."

"Sure, I bet you want to talk to your girlfriend, Violet was it?" I said, sarcastically.

"She is not my girlfriend."

"...Yet."

"What if I ask her out?"  he asked as he observed my reaction. I flinched but I quickly covered it up with a smile.

"I wouldn't care."

"Okay, then." He said and backed away from me, walking away.

"What if I ask Lorcan out?" I ask as he was about to leave.

"Go ahead, it won't last anyways." said Gilbert.

"How do you know?"

"Because, you are not meant to be with him."
