A Secret Comes Back To Hunt Us

A few seconds before the kiss

Anne's POV

I turned and looked at Cole as my heart started to increase its speed. I could actually feel Gilbert looking at me and my stomach started to feel funny.

Suddenly, I felt someone moving my chin towards the opposite direction and my eyes met with the most beautiful hazel eyes I've ever seen before. I felt comfort as I shyly looked at him. Like, I was finally home.

He gave me a questioning smile as if he was asking if he could kiss me and without even realizing I nodded and the next thing I knew he was leaning in. I was a bit scared because I've never actually kissed someone and the only person I pecked accidentally BOTH times were Gilbert. But, my mind went completely blank when we locked lips.

I unconsciously smiled and I felt him smile widely. He held me close to him. It was like he thought that it was a dream and I could disappear at any moment from him fingertips. Then, I remembered that everybody was there and I awkwardly stopped the kiss.

He opened his eyes and looked at me and I pointed with my eyes at everyone. He understood what I meant and he held my hand. I looked at him with a questioning stare and he said.

"We need to talk about this. Let's go outside. We will need privacy which Cole doesn't even seem to know what it means." said Gilbert as we chuckled.

"You all owe me three dimes." said Cole.

"You bet on us?" I asked, shocked.

"We bet on when you would get together." said Ruby.

"You bet if we got together?" I asked again.

"No... We bet when... And how." said Jerry.

"How?" I asked, upset.

"Wow. Who won that one?" asked Gilbert excited but I tighten my grip on his hand and he welped.

"OWWW. I meant that, this is really disrespectful." said Gilbert, as he gave me an innocent smile.

"Let's see..." said Charlie.

"Diana bet that Gilbert would confess him feelings. Jerry said, that Anne would confess her feelings but only if she got too jealous. Ruby said, that they will have to get it spelled out for them by a friend. But, she couldn't be that friend because then it would be cheating. Brian said, that I would get in the middle and make them kiss... Which, technically is not wrong but not correct either. Charlie said, Gilbert's face would get really red because he would be jealous and just take Anne from Lorcan because he has quite the temper too, finishing with the sentence 'I know trust me'. Lily said, that Violet would get so upset that she would say something like 'You are so pathetic just kiss. I don't even care anymore.' I bet that Anne would probably be in a situation and Gilbert would be the only one who could help her and they become a couple then. Last but not least, Billy said that Gilbert would listen to something and not realize who it was about so he would ask and that would have led to them talking things out and kiss. Oh Violet said, they won't kiss because I am Gilbert's girlfriend. D U H. What's a duh? " asked Cole.

"It's used to express actual or feigned ignorance or stupidity or it is used derisively to indicate that something just stated is all too obvious or self-evident. " I answered quickly and Gilbert looked at me with pride.
