"Do you know Katherine Jones?" A delivery man asked me when I got to the door.
"Yeah, she's my girlfriend."
"Sign here," He pointed to his clipboard and I obliged.
He then handed me a bouquet of flowers and walked away. I closed the door and walked to the kitchen, confused as hell.
After I set the flowers on the table, I searched them for a card.
'I'm sorry' was all it said.
Ok, who the hell sent flowers to Katie and what did they do to her to make her upset?
I shook my head and walked back to the living room to resume watching TV. However, my mind wasn't on it. I was thinking about Katie. She got home early yesterday and didn't say a word to me. She just went straight upstairs with her sister to her room. Another strange thing was how she slept in her room instead of mine. I had so much trouble sleeping because I missed her presence. I ended up wrapping my arms around a pillow, but it didn't compare. Not even close. I also didn't see either of them this morning. Are they mad at me? Did I do something wrong?
'Buzz Buzz' I felt something vibrate under me. I reached my hand down into the couch and pulled out a phone. Not just any phone. Katie's. That explains why she hasn't replied to my messages from today.
There were multiple messages from an unknown number displayed on her lock screen. I contemplated whether or not to read them.
'That would be snooping, and snooping is wrong' A part of me said.
'What if she's being harassed? As her boyfriend you have a right to check out the messages with a reason' The other part said.
'Don't do it Justin. Confront her about it when she gets home'
'Who knows when she's coming home? She should've been back an hour ago. Just skim over the messages for something abnormal and if it's a normal conversation drop it'
Well, a quick look over to make sure everything's ok won't hurt anyone.
I turned on the phone (yes I know the password) and began with the first message.
'Hey Katie'
'Who is this?'
'Take a guess ;)'
'No who the hell is this'
'It's your dream man' My stomach turned uneasily.
'I highly doubt that'
'Oh. Well you don't recognize the number?'
'If I recognized the number I wouldn't be asking who this was dumbass' She had a point.
'It's Jeffrey' I wanted to chuck her phone at a brick wall.
'Where'd you get my number from?'
'I never deleted it out of my phone'
'Hello?' He had said 20 minutes after she didn't reply.
That ended Wednesday afternoon. I decided to keep reading. A sense of relief came over me when I realized she didn't re-add him as a contact.
'Hey K, what's up?"
'Katie I know you're there. It says you read it'
'Why aren't you answering me?'
'Maybe because you snitched on Meredith when I told you not to' She finally replied.
'I told you I didn't snitch'
'Then how did Peters find out?'
'I can't tell you, but I didn't do it'
