"Bottoms up!" cheers Terrance.

Sasha, Terrance, Dwayne, their other roommate Chris and I stand in a circle throwing back shots.

"Aye!"

We all cheer, the music gets turned up and the blunts and liquor keep flowing. I'm blissfully unaware and forgetful of earlier events.

A couple hours later, Sasha finds herself locked in Terrance's room and I'm sitting on the kitchen counter with Dwayne standing in front of me.

"Glad to see you again," he says.

I smile and bring my glass to my lips.

"What you got going on today?" Dwayne asks, wiping a bead of alcohol running down his chin.

"This? Not a lot planned afterwards."

Dwayne nods, "sounds like you're free to hang with me then, huh?"

I look at him, a smirk playing on my lips, "what you mean? I'm chillin with Sash."

He raises an eyebrow, "looks like Sash, is hanging with Terry, not ch'yo ass," he teases.

I laugh at his tone of voice, he joins in.

"Come on Malina... You know you like me," that drunk smile of his never fades.

"Hm?" I reply.

"Hm?" he mocks teasingly. "Don't play shy now girl."

I side eye him, then laugh. "Dwayne, you barely even know me, why you want to hang out with me?"

"You're cute, funny and I like the way you laugh... Also when you're drunk you adopt this like, guarded childlike demeanor. I think you're intersting."

"Oh I'm glad to have piqued your interest," I say, rolling my eyes.

We share another laugh, he offers to pour me another drink. I accept, he pours us both more then he leads me to the back yard. Instead of sitting on the chairs like before, we walk through the grass, their backyard is an open field.

We spend what feels like hours talking, laughing, joking and talking some more. Being around Dwayne makes me appreciate the easy going trait he possesses.

After a while we wind up in Dwayne's room. He told me he plays around with music production and he'd like me to listen to a few songs.

We sit on his bed, I look around his room while he sets up his laptop. There are trophies for soccer achievements and photos hanging on his wall.

"Alright check this out," Dwayne says, grabbing my attention again.

He slides his headphones over my head, the plush feels good on my ears.

The beat starts in my ears, it's soft, bumping. I'm bobbing my head to the music as it goes, he plays a couple more songs. I slide the headphones off when it's over and look at Dwayne.

"The was so freaking good, I can't believe you made that yourself!"

He smiles, looks down at his lap.

"Really," I say. "Like your music sounds professionally done and crisp. A lot better than some of the shit I hear on the radio."

He finally looks at me, "thank you Malina. That means a lot, I spend a lot of time on this stuff."

I nod, "it shows... Remember me when you make it big."

He chuckles, "I hope you'll be right there if I do."

I smile at him, he smiles back. I notice how close we're sitting to each other and I'm suddenly hot. I lean back slightly to take my jean jacket off.

"I'm burning up," I mutter.
