"I've got a sort of proposition for you."
Adeen's piercing those bright eyes into mine and I remind myself to breathe before I reply.
"What's that?"
"If you trust yourself with a pair of clippers and are willing to cut all this off, I will take you out to dinner tonight."
"What?!" I ask surprised, "but it's so curly and perfect!" I whine.
He chuckles and looks to the floor, "it's time for a cut love. I'd get Tiana to do it, but she left to get her nails done."
Twisting my tongue in my agape mouth, I sweep my eyes over him and extend a hand toward him.
"Bet, I gotchu."
He bites his lip as he smiles and clasps his hand against mine, "alright good answer. I'll get set up."
Adeen places and sits on a barstool in the middle of the wooden floor with me standing behind him. Clippers in my hand I move the buzzing tool against Adeen's head. Slowly I ease the clippers from his nape to the top in a fluid motion over and over again across his scalp. My burning fingers press into his neck to keep him stable.
He closes his eyes, sighs, relaxing and I inch in closer to him, deeply inhaling his scent. He smells like pinewood and honey scented body wash.
"Mm," I accidentally hum out loud.
I place a couple fingers to his forehead, tilting his head back so that I can check and remove the excess hair.
Once sure that all of the hairs are shaved down to a low fade, I turn the clippers off and Adeen stands in front of me with a wide smile.
"What are you smiling about?" I ask playfully.
Still smiling he closes his eyes and shakes his head, "I'm really happy to feel the cool air on my head again."
I laugh lightly, "Happy to be of service," I lift my long skirt an inch from the floor in a sort of curtsy.
"Want me to tackle that beard now?"
He looks at me now, "think you can handle it?"
I put a hand on my hip, "try me."
"Well, I don't want it completely shaven off is all."
I nod, "I know, I can trim it nicely."
He pulls his eyebrows together, "where'd you learn to cut hair and trim and all this?"
I shrug, "I had a friend that ran a barber shop. For a little while I spent most of my time there and I guess I just picked it up... He'd ask me to trim up the back of his head before he got good enough to do it himself and by then he had enough confidence in himself and me too to let me work on some clients if the shop got busy."
He looks at me in silence, "girl of all sorts of traits huh."
The way he looks at me longingly, it's got me tightening my thighs together.
"Guess so," I say, my voice hoarse.
I clear my throat, steady my hands against Adeen's warm face. He closes his eyes again and I bite my lip finally beginning.
When I'm done trimming I turn the buzzing clippers off, set them down and instantly my hands go to shaking with exhilaration and anxiety.
Adeen stands up, brushes his neck off and heads to the bathroom under the stairs.
It's quiet for a little as I'm sweeping up the cut hairs into a dustpan.
"Holy shit," Adeen exclaims.
