"Tee you look terrible, you need to go to the hospital, let me take you," I plead.
"I'll be okay."
"Tiana!"
"If you can just get me this test I'll go wherever you want."
"If you're worried about that, they can test you! We're wasting time!"
"No you're wasting time, just go, do this one thing for me!" She begs, in tears. "Please, please Lee I need this! I need him to know if it's all true."
"I'm not leaving you here like this," I say tearing up.
The wild look in her eye scares me and it reminds me of a time when we were younger.
It was maybe a month after our mom died and we were sharing a room at our grandparents house. I woke up in the middle of the night because I heard her trip over something. When I looked over at her she was dressed in a bulky jacket and had a backpack on her shoulders.
"Tee, what are you doing?" I asked in a whisper.
She sighed, annoyed that she was caught and sat on the bed next to me.
She shook her head, "I can't stay here."
"What do you mean?" I asked. "Yes you can, what's wrong?"
Her head hanging she whispers, "you wouldn't understand."
"Yes I would, you always say that!" I pouted.
She looked at me, unit on her face. "Malina, I just have to go. I don't want to live here anymore, I can't live here anymore. Just-"
"If you go, I go," I blubbered, grabbing her hand.
I remember how her eyes glistened in the dark room, I didn't realize it then but I know now that she was crying.
"Tiana don't leave me," I cried.
She sniffled and rushed toward me, grabbing me in a tight hug. Her backpack straps scratched my face, but I didn't care because I didn't want her to let me go.
When she pulled back, she had those panicked eyes like now.
"Lee, I'll be back, I won't be gone forever."
"Promise?"
"I promise," she whispered.
Then she pressed a kiss to my forehead, stood up and I watched her open the door, walk out and slowly shut it leaving me alone in the dark bedroom.
"Malina," Tiana says pulling me from my thoughts. "Let's just play it safe for now, who knows how Adeen will react if we're both missing when he gets back. Just go and come back with the test and we'll plan on how to get to the hospital later. Please, I'm begging you I just need this one thing."
"Fine, fine I'll go-" I say defeated.
"Be quick!" She pants.
