Recap
"It's okay, you're okay." he murmured, rubbing the child's arm softly. "You're okay."
Let's go
"Ok." She answered, believing Dust's words. She then thought for a moment, before looking up at Dust, wanting to ask something. However, she stopped herself, and decided to wait until they stopped walking.
Dust tilted his head to the side slightly, noticing that Lea seemed to have wanted to say something.
"Something on your mind, kiddo?" he asked quietly.
"Huh? Oh...Um, I...I'll tell you when we stop. I want us to be alone." She answered, looking down.
Dust nodded his understanding, smiling softly.
"Okay."
Lea continued on, staying close to Dust due to her fear of the darkness that followed, and because she loved him being so close.
Eventually, everyone arrived at Sci and and Red's house.
Dust still kept Lea close in a protective manner, but his hold was loose enough that she could pull away from him if wanted.
Sci smiled and welcomed Lea in, escorting her to her and and Dust's now-shared room. She followed, liking the happy vibe the house gave.
Dust stuck by Lea's side, following Sci in as well, smiling happily, glad to be back in the cozy house.
"Welp, I'll leave you to settle in Lea. If you need anything, me and Red will be in the living room. And you'll have Dust too." Sci said, smiling.
"Oki." Lea happily responded, smiling back at Sci before turning to gaze at her new sleeping space.
Dust gave a thankful smile in Sci's direction, then turned back to Lea.
"So what was it that you wanted to say to me?" he asked once Sci had left, sitting down on his bed and patting the space next to him invitingly.
Lea sat down, gazing at Dust. "I know that my other daddy wouldn't just let you and your friends take me, so I want to know. Where is he, or what happened to him. And...What happened to mommy..." Lea whispered the last part, gazing down at her hands.
Dust hesitated, his gaze slowly drifting to his hands, tears building in his eyes.
"I..." he whispered, tears starting to trace down his cheekbones. He wiped them away, but more came, so he gave up.
'She's going to hate me. She's going to despise me.'
"...they... They're both dead..." he managed eventually, nearly sobbing, but trying to contain his tears.
He was trembling, wrapping his arms around himself tightly. He drew his legs up to his chest, resting his chin on his knees.
"They're both.... I... It's... it's my fault. Everything... Everything is my fault. Everything. I... I'm so s-sorry... I... I'm sorry, Lea. I'm sorry. I'm sorry..."
Lea gazed back at Dust, trying to comprehend what he just said. Both a relieve, and a burning sadness washed over her. But as she looked in Dust's heartbroken eyes, she knew it wasn't his fault, so she reached over and hugged him.
"I know it's not true, it can't be true. It's not. Daddy, I isn't your fault. I don't believe that." She whispered.
shakily.
'Shouldn't she hate me?' he thought, 'Shouldn't she hate the person who killed her father and couldn't save her mom? How... How doesn't she hate me? How doesn't she hate me with everything she has? It's my fault... it's.... It's my fault...'
