Chapter 26

A week later

Ellie's POV

I am by myself now, but not for long I'm sure.

I feel my phone buzz beside me. "I didn't think this would last long," I sigh to myself. I answer it without looking at the called.

"Hello?" I say. "Hi Ellie," Romeo sighs, "If you haven't seen the news, Brooklyn broke his something or another tendon in the last Mani Uni game."

"Awh that's terrible," I say, "How long will he be out for?"  "The rest of the season," he tells me.

My heart breaks for him. "Well, I guess I should come down and visit with some of my friends," I sigh. "Smart," he says, "Brooky's been sitting here for ages, hanging out with him right now is frankly the most boring thing I've ever done."

"Okay, I'll catch the next flight hon, see you then," I tell him. "Bye Ellie," he says.

I call up Mia and Jaime. Lennie is visiting family this week.

"Brooklyn broke his something or another tendon in the last game according to Romeo, and he'll be out for the rest of the season," I tell them.

"That sucks, I was looking forward to them beating the arses off of everyone else," Mia says.

"Well, I proposed that we visit him since he's upset, you guys in?" I ask.

"Of course, I feel really bad for him," Jaime says. "Well count me in, my next few days have been ruined because my team is going to lose," Mia says. "Meet at the airport, in glasses and hats," I tell them.

We do just that and get on the soonest plane to Manchester.

As soon as we arrive, we rent a car. Jaime drives it so I can talk to Luke.

"Helloooo Ellie," he answers. "Hey Luke, we're in Manchester," I tell him.

"Alrighty then, why?" he asks. "Because Brooklyn's out for the rest of the season on an injury," I tell him.

"Oh, I heard about that," he says, "Tell him I say Hi and Don't make it as terrible as it seems."  "Okay then," I say, laughing a little, "I'll go for that."

"I love you," he tells me, making my heart stop and flutter a little.

"I love you," I tell him, hoping that just maybe he feels how I feel when I say it.

When we finally arrive in Manchester, we get to Brooklyn's house.

"Hello hello hello," I sing as we walk in. I am greeted by a really thin girl with short, Brown hair.

"Thank God you're finally here," she says, "I'm starting to get worried about Brooklyn. "

I look at her. She looks really familiar.

"Who are you?" Jaime asks, "I don't believe any of us have met."

"I-I'm Bethany," she tells us, "Brooklyn's friend. I play tennis..."

"Oh yeah, you!" I exclaim, "Hi, it's nice to meet you!  Brooklyn's told me so much, well, so little, but a lot in a way you probably wouldn't understand but..."

"Someone's here," Brooklyn says, crutching into the entryway. He smiles. "Ellie Mia Jaime, I don't believe you've met Bethany, one of my...You know...

"Friends, I guess," she says, smiling a little. I look at him and raise an eyebrow. He shrugs.

"Alright, we heard you were a little down today," Mia says, "It sucks that this happened, I was looking forward to you guys beating those..."

"And you want to do something?" Jaime asks. "Not really, I kind of just want to hang out," he sighs. "I think Jaime has an amazing idea there Brooklyn," Bethany says, "We should."

"What do you say we do?" I ask. "We could go anywhere, this got me out of going to The Met by the way, which is quite exciting actually," Mia says.

"Oh sorry," Brooklyn sighs. "No, I was cool with it, it wasn't a good show anyways," she says. She looks at me. Idiot, but I love her.

"So, how about we go out?  Ellie, I see you can't drink, but we could still have a good time," Bethany says.

"Of course, maybe we could go shopping, what ya say Brooklyn?" I ask. "Sounds good," he says. We drag him out to Bethany's car and we start down the road.

We start in Jack Wills. "I need a new sweatshirt to fit my fatness," I say. Everyone laughs.

We walk in and I find one, a double XL. Boy do I feel skinny. I sigh And check out with it.

"Hey Ellie," Brooklyn says. I walk over to him.

"She friend zoned me didn't she?" he asks. "I don't know," I say, Because I honestly don't know.

"Come here," I tell him, bringing him in for a hug. "I wish she would love me," he whispers. "I know," I tell him.

"Brooklyn!" I hear someone scream from behind us. I turn around to see Bethany, who looks mad.

She likes him!  Yay!

Wait a second she likes him!  And I'm hugging him!

"Bethany," Brooklyn starts. "No, I thought that just maybe you felt the same way with me," she whispers, "But I guess it's just her, even though she already is married. I'm done."

I let go of Brooklyn and run as fast as I can after her. Turns out, a fat, pregnant woman isn't as fast as a skinny tennis player. Who would have ever guessed.

Brooklyn started running down the pavement. "Brooklyn don't!" I scream. He falls down and rolls over. "Bethany please," he whines.

She stops running and turns around. She runs over to him him and helps him up.

"I thought you loved me," she says, "I guess we're just friends, and I should be fine with that. Sorry."

"No, I do love you," he says, "Ellie was just hugging me because...I thought you were just friend zoning me."

She smiles. "No, I would never," she says, blushing a little.

Finally, he found someone for him.
