Ellie's POV
"I don't know, Wes is really into his sports and has great grades, Ansley has outstanding grades, is into music, and cheerleading," I tell Lennie, "They are both so different that it's hard keeping up."
I stayed over at Lennie and Michael's house last night. Luke and the boys are at my house in the middle of one of their song writing sessions.
"And Wes looks exactly like Luke did at his age," Lennie says, "They could be twins, except he has your paler blue eyes. Ansley is the perfect mix of both of you, she has lighter hair like you, but she has more of Luke's eyes, and she definitely has his nose."
"It's like..." My phone rings. It's Luke. "Hang on a second," I sigh, walking outside.
"How's everything going? Did you forget the pizza number again?" I ask, laughing to myself.
"E-Ellie, my d-dad, he's s-sick," he stutters, sobbing.
"What do you mean?" I ask. "I don't know, they just called me and told me they didn't know if he would make it through the night," he says.
"Okay, uhmm, I'll pick up the kids and then I'll get you, okay?" I ask. "Please hurry Ellie," he whispers before hanging up.
"So, what's up?" she asks, sounding concerned. "Luke's dad is in the hospital, I have to get the kids," I say.
"No worries, we'll talk later," she says, "If you need me to watch them at any point, I'm available."
"Thanks Len, you're the best," I say before grabbing my purse and running outside.
I wake up Wes and make him get in the car, and then we pick up Ansley. I then explain it all to them.
"Listen kids, grandpa Hemmings isn't doing so well," I say, "He was shipped off to the hospital this morning. Your daddy isn't doing so well with it, so try to stay strong for him, as he will for you."
"Mum, did daddy cry?" Ansley asks, obviously trying her hardest to hold back sobs.
"Yes, he did," I admit, because I hate lying to my kids.
"Mum, I-I'm scared," Wes stutters. They've never really been through death before, other than Blue, but that's a dog, and we didn't have her that long.
I mean, Luke's dad and I weren't extremely close, but I know him enough that I don't want him to die. He is a nice man with a good heart.
When we arrive home, I tell the kids to stay in the car and go get Luke.
I walk inside and there he is. Sitting in the couch, crying. I put my arm around him and pull him into a hug.
"Ellie, I don't want him to die," he sobs. I've never seen him quite like this before, it's almost terrifying. He always is there for when I'm scared, and now I have to be there for him.
I cup his face in my hands. "It'll be okay," I promise him, "But you have to be strong for the kids. You know they'll be strong for you."
He nods and wipes away his tears. "I'll try," he says, putting a strong smile on his face.
We walk into the car and I decide I will drive, because Luke doesn't seem stable. I make small talk with the kids as we drive, but Luke remains silent.
As soon as we get to the hospital, Luke looks at me and seems panicky. I take his hand and we all walk into the hospital.
When we find Luke's mum, Jack, Ben, their wives, Jack's daughter, Angel, and Ben's son, Andrew. Luke runs to the and hugs them.
"Oh my God," he says into his mum's shirt. "How is he?" I ask.
"He has late stage cancer," Jack says, "They're doing all they can, but you know..."
Ansley puts a hand over her mouth and gasps. I pull her into a hug and she starts sobbing.
Luke just stares at me, I know he's trying to keep himself together.
"Kids, why don't you all go on a walk?" I suggest. "Okay," Ansley says, wiping away tears. Wes puts his arm around her and they go walking.
I sit down with Luke. He just leans into me and cries.
I honestly don't know what to do.

Wes' POV
We walk out of the hospital and down the road. Ansley is still a mess.
"Get yourself together," I tell her. She looks at me. "Don't be so insensitive," she whispers.
Angel is a year older than us, and I suppose she is like a sister to Ansley. She gives her a hug. We continue walking until we reach a Starbucks.
We go inside and talk a little, though sometimes, talking is interrupted by crying from the girls, sometimes, I feel myself get emotional. I know Ansley is extremely close to grandpa, so I feel bad.
I am not sure what to do.
