Deception

Chapter 57

Johnny couldn't sleep after seeing those kids so he joined H.G. on his night rounds.
"So we'll start with the toddlers and work our way up.
You think you'll be up for helping me with the wild ones all you'll have to do is keep the kid in the corner with the body shield if their is a mess to clean up but it'll be the younger kids that we can handle any bigger kids we have to get John." H.G. explained as they walked threw the quiet dim lit hall of the toddler wing.
"Them too?" Johnny said as he looked in at a child through the window and saw a boy who looked no more than six.
He was covered in bruises huddled in a corner.
"Unfortunately yes...
Hey you gonna be okay?" H.G. asked as he gently put his hand on Johnny's shoulder startling him out of his thoughts.
"Oh...
Yeah...
He just reminds me of when I was his age." Johnny solomnly said.
As H.G. unlocked the boys door.
"Is that safe?" Johnny inquired remembering the last kid who wanted to bite him through the door.
"Yeah...
Shawn here is a sweet kid." H.G. smiled.
As soon as the boy saw H.G. his face lit up.
He ran to H.G. and lept into his arms.
"How's my little tiger doing." H.G. tickled the boy who did his best tiger growl.
"Shawn this is Johnny mind hanging out with while I clean your room?" H.G. asked as the boy snuggled his shoulder and shyly looked up at Johnny who smiled at him.
"Okay." Shawn squeezed H.G. and reached for Johnny.
It didn't take long for H.G. to cleen up than check Shawn's stitches.
"We should re name you Stitch." H.G. teased with tears in his eyes as he gave the boy his Stitch toy.
"Can I do the walk with you?" Shawn asked giving H.G. sad puppy eyes.
"How can I say no." H.G. smiled.
"You know the rules you and Stitch stay in the hall." H.G. reminded Shawn as he took his hand.
Shawn decided he want to be Johnny's tour guide he took hold of Johnny's hand and led him door to door.
"This is Sally's room.
She screams from time to time for no reason.
This is Kenny's room.
He bites a lot.
Stay away from him.
This is my brother Teddy's room.
He's ten the oldest here because I begged for him.
H.G. can we go in?" Shawn ran back to H.G. for the keys.
He was attending to Sally who started screaming and crying so much she started trowing up.
"Johnny!
Here you can take him into see Teddy.
Don't worry Teddy is about to graduate to the open room with the other kids." H.G. explained as he tossed Johnny the keys while holding Sally's hair back.
"Shawn!" Teddy ran to his brother and squeezed him.
"Who is he?
Where's H.G.?" Teddy pushed Shawn behind him to protect him.
"This is Johnny.
H.G. is with Sally she's sick." Shawn said breaking free of his brother's protective grasp causing one of us stitches to open making Shawn cry.
"I didn't...
It was an accident...
I forgot about..." Teddy got concerned he was going to get introuble.
"Its okay Teddy, it probably just pinched its not that bad." Johnny assured as he opened the first aid kit in the hall and cleaned the small area that opened on Shawn's arm and put a bandaid on it.
"What I miss?" Asked from the door way.
Shawn pinched his little nose.
"You stink."
"Yeah I think Sally got me more than the bucket at times.
Johnny think you can handle the rest in this wing while I go clean up quick.
Shawn and Teddy know the rounds and  everyones issues." H.G. asked and instructed.
So Johnny and the boys finshed up the rounds.
"Is it okay that I tuck Shawn in?" Teddy asked Johnny.
"Of course." Johnny said with a smile when he scooped up the little boy who was getting sleepy.
Teddy held onto Johnny's pants leg as they headed to Shawn's room.
Once Johnny laid Shawn gently into his bed he stepped back and watched as Teddy tucked his baby brother in making sure he had his toy to sleep with.
"Come on we need to get you to bed." Johnny said as he gently tugged on the boys shirt.
Teddy was definitely tired as they walked back to his room.
At one point Johnny scooped him up and carried the boy back to his room.
"You really tired them out." H.G. chuckled startling Johnny as he was trying to quietly close and lock Teddy's door.
"Come on John is taking up the next round checking on the older kids you need to go get some rest.
Big day tomorrow with training." H.G. said as they walked past Shawn's room again.
Johnny peeked in one last time at the kid...
