Amber's Point-of-View
As I walked with the other girls through the sewers, we chatted nervously.
"What if...what if he's not that nice?" Becca wondered.
"Just say nicely that this was a fun night but you don't want to do it again," Elise said.
"And what if you actually like him?" Alexandra asked.
"You let the feelings flow," I said. We all laughed.
As we neared the door, we heard the gurgling noise once again.
"Not again..." Elise complained. We jumped out of the way just in time to watch the sewage come raining down. Before another round could try and drench us, Alex ran to the door and pounded on it. A surprised Liam opened it.
"Guys, you know there's another entrance, right?" He asked.
We all glared at him.
Hayden walked up. "You guys can come in if you want, or get another round of sewage dumped on you."
The girls and I rushed inside.
"Why don't you all sit on the couch in the family room? The boys should be out soon," Cameron said.
Alex, Rebecca, Elise, Cameron, Hayden, Liam, and I made our way to the family room. The room was silent until Becca spoke.
"So what are you guys doing tonight?" She asked.
"Well, I know Raiyn, Lyra-Rose, and Stella were just going to play video games all night long," Elise said.
"You are welcome to hang with them if you want," Alex suggested almost too quickly. The boys turned pink.
"I saw the way you were smiling around Lyra-Rose, Cameron. You two looked like you had known each other for forever! Almost like brother and sister" I said.
Cameron turned bright red.
"Hey guys, where are you?" Rowan's muffled voice said.
I shot the girls a look that said we should all stand up. We were gathering our things and getting ready to go as the boys walked in. They gaped at the four of us.
Micah was wearing a red flannel shirt, jeans, and cowboy boots. Hunter was wearing a purple and yellow LSU golf shirt, jeans, and cowboy boots. Parker was wearing a light grey hollister polo, black jeans, and black adidas. Rowan looked adorable. He was wearing a black leather jacket, jeans, and tennis shoes.
"Are you guys ready to go?" Elise finally asked.
"Yes," all of the boys responded in unison.
It was obvious they thought we were hot.
I walked up to Rowan. "See you guys later!"
I walked with Rowan to the outside of their base.
"Amber, you look gorgeous," Rowan said.
I blushed so hard. "Thank you," I said.
"I have this all planned out. We are going to take the motorcycle to the diner we used to eat at and then we'll come home. I'm sorry," he said.
"What are you sorry for?" I asked.
"That I didn't plan something more exciting," he apologized.
I grabbed his chin so he had to look at me. His eyes met mine.
"Rowan. Why would I not want to be in the cafe we went on dates in for the last year?" I stood on my tiptoes so we were eye to eye,"I love you. And I am so happy you picked what you did for us to do."
And then I kissed him. Nothing big.
When I pulled away, I could see how surprised he was.
"Let's go then," he said.
He jumped onto the motorcycle and I got on behind him. I wrapped my arms around his waist and laid my head on his shoulder.
When we got to the diner, it was empty. Like always. It was in a bad part of town, but it looked cozy to the two of us. We took a seat at our usual table and ordered.
"Black coffee for me please. Strong," I said.
"Same," Rowan said.
After the waitress left, we didn't talk much. We never did. We just enjoyed the little time we had together.
When the waitress had brought us our coffee, we began to talk a little.
"So now that both teams know about our relationship, does this mean we can go on dates regularly?" I asked.
"Amber, I think it does," Rowan said.
He looked at me and smiled. He leaned in for a kiss.
That's when it went all downhill.
"AHHHHHHH!!!" The waitress screamed. She came running out of the kitchen with a huge gash on her shoulder.
"SAVE YOURSELVES!!!!" She screamed as she fell to the floor. Rowan and I jumped up, alarmed.
Then we heard gunshots.
Rowan grabbed my hand and we sprinted out of the diner.
"Motorcycle!" I shouted. We jumped on the motorcycle and sped away. You could still hear the gunshots.
"I'm going down the highway," Rowan shouted over the wind.
Worst. Decision. Ever.
We got stuck in traffic. As in like, miles and miles of traffic. And with the bad guys right on our tail, it was super dangerous.
"I don't hear any gunshots," I sighed.
A distant shot was fired.
"Great," Rowan sighed.
"Okay, I have an idea but it's insane," I said.
The gun shots grew closer.
"Talk fast," Rowan said.
"Fire up the engine. Fast as you can go," I said.
"Amber! Are you insane?" Rowan asked.
"I believe you agreed to my insane plan, so hit it!" I screamed at him.
The gun shots were very close.
Rowan revved up the engine and sped off.
"Don't worry about me," I said.
"Amber, I-" he started.
I released my hands from his waist and jumped off the motorcycle. I ran to the nearest car and hid became its shadow. I turned my palms to the ground and pushed myself up into the air. With my one hand holding me in the air, I used my powers to create an impenetrable fog cloud. I dropped myself to the ground and shot waves of darkness in the direction the gun shots were coming from.
There were so many car horns honking it was almost funny. But not in this situation.
"Amber!" Rowan said. I ran towards the direction of the motorcycle and jumped in front. I used my night vision to steer the bike down a shallow ravine. We crashed along a rocky edge.
"Rowan! Are you okay?" I asked.
No response.
I stumbled over his body. As I was checking for wounds, I found one bulletin grazed his ear, one was stuck in his arm, and one near his heart.
I swore.
I lifted him up in my arms and started carrying him towards the base. It would take all night, but he would be safe.
Me? I would sacrifice my life for Rowan.
