Elise's Point of View

A few days later...

The government was hosting a gala in celebration of our victory. They invited us, and the Red Eye Brothers! I guess the government was so happy with us, that they decided to let us bring dates, which was extremely rare. However, they were also extremely mad at Raiyn for hacking the system and reading everything. They took away the flash drive with all of the information on that.

There's always the bittersweet moments in life.

The girls and I dressed up, big time. It was one thing to get us in dresses, but ball gowns were unheard of.

Alexandra was wearing a sleeveless blue, purple, and pink swirled ball gown. Her brown hair was in a waterfall braid and it cascaded to the other side of her head, where is became one full braid. There were tiny clips in her hair with little diamonds on them. She wore her favorite pair of glittery keds, which were an off white glitter color. They were covered entirely in that. Her nails were an ombré from pink to blue. She only wore her favorite crown ring for jewelry. Her makeup consisted of a warm, rosy color. She had on light eyeliner too and a bright pink shade of lipstick. She carried a light blue, shiny, mini backpack. She smelled like she usually did, like flowers. It was hard not to like Alex and her style.

Amber was wearing a silver and black strapless ball gown. She wore tan tights and her favorite pair of black heeled boots. When she came out, she had on her mini hoop earrings. She had two piercings, so one was gold and one was silver. She wore her poison ring and her red heart necklace. Her nails were painted a shade of black, with the ring finger red. Amber carried a black suede hand purse. She smelled different too. Her perfume made her smell clean, sort of a mix between a new car and steel. Her makeup consisted of a dark black and purple smokey eye and her lips were a dark maroon. Her dyed hair was in a bun, with a few strands hanging out to make it look less uptight.

Raiyn was wearing a blue and white flowy, ball gown. It looks exactly like waves washing over a shore, and it was very simple. She wore her cross necklace. Raiyn was never big on jewelry or makeup. Her hair was straightened and worn down, which was a surprise because she almost always wore it in a ponytail.

Lyra-Rose was wearing a tan dress with purple embroidered twigs reaching up from the bottom. There were butterflies along the top of the dress. She wore her hair in a tight bun, and we actually succeeded in putting makeup on her. Unsurprisingly, she didn't want to take it off as soon as she had put it on!

Stella wore a white dress with LED lights underneath it, so the dress changed colors. She was truly, the beacon of the ball. It took Rebecca and Alexandr a while to do her hair, but it was in an elaborate half-up, half-down style. I don't believe the girls could have done any better.

Rebecca wore a black and red ombré fire ball gown. She had on black tights and a pair of black stilettos. Her highlighted hair was parted to the side. She wore a red heart necklace, a matching red heart bracelet, an oval shaped Scarlet ring, and dangly red earrings. Her sparkly, red nails were set off by her black and gold Smokey Eye with the thick eyeliner and the red lipstick. She smelled smokey.

Me? I wore a long camouflage dress. Becca just added to the one I wore on the date. Her makeup was more of a natural look, although the color of the bow matched Elise's lipstick. Elise wore pink flats, considering that she really didn't do heels. Her nails were painted like a French manicure. The only jewelry Elise wore was her cross necklace and she had left Rebecca straighten her hair, curl them in ringlets, and brush it. It was in a half ponytail. She had in diamond earrings and a small, tasteful bracelet. She carried a pink handbag. She smelled woodsy, like evergreen trees.

Oh, and let's not forget the masks. Did I mention this was a masquerade ball?

I was standing next to Rebecca and talking to her off to the side of the ball room.

"Well, happy birthday Elise!" Becca exclaimed.

"Thank you! I'm no longer the designated driver!" I replied.

We both laughed until our stomachs hurt.

"Hey, Becca?" I asked, suddenly sobered.

"Yes?" She replied.

"There's just one thing I don't understand about the whole mass murderer thing. Why would you spy on us?" I asked her.

She thought for a minute. "Alexandra and I went shopping one day. I guess we should have paid more attention, but that woman was following us. I went into the dressing room after picking out a few things, when Lily started to talk to me. I found out that she is a Manipulator, which means she can tell people to do things without them knowing. It's a really rare power," Becca finished.

"So she manipulated you into doing those things?" I asked incredulously.

Becca nodded sorrowfully. "I didn't mean to, I swear, but she had a good hold of me."

I hugged her. We can't be good people all the time.

"Hey, you know while you were gone, Hunter missed you a lot. He moped around most of the time," I said.

That seemed to make Rebecca so much happier. "Really?" She asked.

"Totally. In fact, you should go talk to him," I suggested.

"But what do I say?" Becca asked me.

Now it was my turn to think a little.

"Be yourself," I said finally," it's the only person he wants to get to know well."

Becca hugged me again and took off towards Hunter. I leaned against the wall and closed my eyes.

"What a week," a voice said. I opened my eyes to find Micah standing in front of me.

"Not that I know of," I joked.

"Hey, happy birthday," Micah said. He pulled magnolias from behind his back.

"Aww, thank you!" I said.

"You're welcome. I was wondering if you wanted to go dance," he asked.

I set the magnolias down on the table next to me and took his hand. He guided me to the dance floor where they were playing "All Star".

"Could this night get any better?" I yelled over the music.

Just then, Micah grabbed my face and pulled me close.

And he kissed me.

I was wrong. It did get better.

So much better.
